Well, 20 people were needed for the Ruby to be the prize, and 15 people showed.  Jeff from Who's on First still put up a minty minty minty Mishra's Workshop (and a Volcanic Island and two Force of Wills for 2-4th place)

Competition was fierce, as the people that DID show are all experienced Vintage Players including
Dan Messiano, Pyr0ma5ta, Webster, Vegetta2711, JeffTheFob, Manny, Stan Gin, and Team Vacaville's Austin Junior and LotusHead.

The Meta was Oath, SuperLong X3, Storm X2, Salvagers, Ichorid, Gat X3, Tyrant Oath and Dnine.dec (now with more Teeg!) and Stax X2

Top 4:
Junior Cervantez - Oath of Noobs
Iain Bartolemei - SuperLong
Luis Scott-Vargas - SuperLong
Austin Martinez - URW Salvagers

Webster was bumped from top 4 purely on tie-breakers but he played SuperLong

Austin raped Junior
and Ian beat Luis

A cold and dreary day in sunny NorCal!

Our Meta...

Me vs Jonathon Wang: I never got enough mana to Slave him (I think), but I won this (Titan was probably involved...)

I'm guessing this is Stan vs a Storm Deck.

Vegeta2711 winning (ichorid) vs Austin (not Ichorid)

Um... The player on the top is resolving Yawgmoth's Will. Junior took these pics as I was fighting my way out of Energy Flux at the time.

I'm assuming Huang on the right.

Me vs GAT.

More pics later.

This tournament was tons of fun. Great seeing everyone again and cube drafting afterward at Denny's, quite an experience to say the least. Also, LotusHead is savage at topdecking Academy right in the nick of time...nice Energy Flux, sir, I'll just pay for it in the future with a freshly-topdecked Academy and this nice Gilded Lotus over here! And also, bash your face in. (Using it to activate Memnarch on DSC was also not terrible).

I was clearly out of practice in T1 and not comfortable with GAT, and I had an uncanny knack for drawing two lands on just about every Gush I cast today (in one game I went Brainstorm-fetch-Brainstorm-fetch-Ponder-fetch-Gush with a Fastbond in play and ended up passing the turn with five lands out and a Force of Will in my otherwise-worthless hand), but it was still a blast. Good times and many props to Who's On 1st for putting up a minty Workshop even though the turnout was disappointing.

Finally, though I didn't think my four-creature cube draft deck would work out, apparently it was the nuts. So at least the day wasn't a total disaster Wink

Hehehe. I was gonna get to that. It takes a while for the pics to happen etc (then I usually give my little mini-report).

Seriously, Jon busts out with Energy Flux after my turn 1 Play stuff (including Gilded Lotus and Goblin Welder) and Chalice for 1, with only Chalice left in hand.  I plop Chalice for 2 on turn 2 and Jon gets Flux out. Sad times. I lose one permanent in initial Welder/Flux wars, then TopDeck Tolarian Academy and wait for his other 3CC threats to happen. (Tog came down soon enough, but I got trike).  Scary.

Great games!

The pictures of a Tarmogoyf with a red die set on 3 on it, including the one with Yawgwill, are of me (SuperLong) playing against Manny (GAT).  I won that game by Threads of Disloyalty'ing his Goyf, attacking him to 2, then topdecking into Tendrils while on 2 life after the Threads got REB'd.

As far as actual tournaments go, I had a miserable day.  The Draw7's in SuperLong let me down all day.  Memory Jar into 6 mana and a Force?  Timetwister into 2 Duresses, 2 Thoughtseizes, 2 Rituals, and a Force?  Give me a break.  And my match against Lotushead was also a mess.  Hardcast Colossus after getting Cap'd.  D'oh, Memnarch.  Cast and activate Mindslaver the turn before I win.  Oh well.

However, that's not to say I had a crappy day.  It was good to just hang with you guys again after not seeing you guys for so long.  And building a cube stack is turning out to be the best Magic decision I've made in months.  Drafting at Denny's after the site closed was surreal and a blast.  Especially when I got to Seismic Assault a Sundering Titan dead, then attack with Ophidian and Solemn Simulacrum for the win.

I really like the Salvagers list. Correct me if I am wrong, but is it now 60 cards??

Manny vs Pyr0ma5ta

Luis vs LotusHead: Luis storms his way pays my Thorn with Yawgmoth's Will to hardcast Memory Jar in hopes of hitting and playing Time Walk before my Welder gets active. (I had dupelicant in my graveyard). The ploy works and Luis wins!

Dan vs Jeff Huang.  Everything went exactly wrong for Dan, as far as I could tell.

Iain vs Austin in the swiss. Iain got Austin 2-0

David Peterson vs Webster.

Manny vs Junior.

Akroma and her Blazing Archon lover enter the red zone.  (you thought she and Razia were lez? what?)

Pyr0ma5ta's Pimp Ichroid piloted by Mr. Ichroid himself Vegeta2711.

Stan's Platinum Angel takes it home as David ran out of outs.

Junior's Bitch Play of Arcane Laboratory on turn 1 of extra turns. The game ends in a draw...

Ichorid Math

David resolves a Bargain at 18 Life.  Austin's thirst was pretty good. Lotus, ETW, Mox, pitching Aether Spell Bomb.  He got 10 tokens and David somehow FIZZED on his YawgWill turn. With Bargain Out. at 18 Life.  It happens. (Austin was sweating bullets...)

1st turn duress... I see...

Austin vs Junior in semi-finals. One of Team Vacaville advances to the finals and you gotta be DAMNED sure they are gonna play it out to see who "gets there".

Junior's hand

And much trashtalking ensued.

Luis pretty much knew Iain had will in hand, just checking the graveyard. But it was fun to watch their match because they both wanted to win, but didn't exactly want a Shop. They're here to play.

Tap out for Bargain, go!

Yep. 10 Goblins.  Junior's Oath of Druids got exploded or bounced at least 4 times in one game.

Luis oversees the finals: Iain vs Austin. Austin got Darkrit Duress Thoughtseized but rips thirst off the top and all is well.  His Trinket Mage (and eventually Mage #2) went the distance. Austin sat on Time Walk and played it masterfully when it meant GG. (I would have played it sooner knowing about 6 MD Duresses, but then again, Austin won this and I didn't). You gotta have balls to play Vintage, right? Smile

14 tokens, Salvager, Trinket Mage, one untap away from victory. Iain's deck seemed to randomly crap out both games in the finals. I didn't see his hands, but Austin won this.

Austin said his deck got to kill in every way the deck can. Combo with Auriok Salvagers, Tinker for Colossus, Goblin beat down, Trinket Mage Beatdown, Salvager Beatdown and the ever classic Bargain Lock/Fizzle. No Mana Crypt wins however.

My mini-report:
Round 1: Jonathan Wang with Gat
Game 1: I get Spheres and Thorns down (the first few of which get countered, but I'm playing 9 of them today!) and he eventually scoops to Crucible Strip/Sphere count)
Game 2: I bust out with early Chalice for 1 and Chalice for 2, but he plays Energy Flux, which with a resolved Goblin Welder and Guilded Lotus makes me lose one actual permanent initially. I fortuitously topdeck Tolarian Academy like a Champ and with Guilded Lotus, I keep my shit in play and kill a 'tog with a 'Trike. Go me.

Round 2: Luis Scott-Varga with SuperLong
Game 1: I get thorn(s) out and he tinkers for colossus and kills me
Game 2: He ETW's trough 2 spheres for 8 goblins and I die

Round 3: Vegeta2711 with Ichorid
My teammates commandeered all of the team leylines and I forget that I am only using 3 proxies I could proxy up 4 laylines but don't follow through.
Josh goes through the motions and demolishes me.  There really is no chance for me to win without Platnum Angel protected by chalce at 1 and 2 , Leylines and luck, opponent mulling to 2 while I first turn tinker, etc.

Round 4: Pyr0ma5ta
I kick the fucking everliving shit out of him.  Thanks to his TimeTwistering both games. Smile
All good.

Pyr0 invited us to Cube Draft, and it was a great experience getting to see what the fuss was about.
My Cube Draft deck looked great on paper, but sucked in real life.  CUBE DRAFTERS: Draft 2 colors MAX. My deck was BWR TurboLand Stax. :/ Reanimator TurboLand Stax. It was fun!

@islanderboi10 The deck was indeed 60 cards!

Props:
Jeff for having a T1 tourney for first time in like "Since 5th Dawn"
Austin for taking, getting there, not noobing
PyroMasta for having family in Norcal to come back to to play some Vintage
Sylvestry for trying
JeffTheFob for taking TWO for the team, in 4 rounds of swiss. Tough breaks, man.
Luis for being a swell guy
Webster for being a cold-hearted Killer and beating Finkel that one time
