1. Kyle Quit Magic to teach pilates to gay guys in NY
(not a joke)

2. I'm glad ICBM isn't coming, that meens I'll win

3. I hope hatcher plays a combo deck. The only time i ever played him he necropotenced himself to death. It was epic!

Hatcher you sure are talking a lot of smack for someone who doesn't play anymore.  Maybe you do have something that they don't but it mostly isn't the knowledge to play the game...i think you are just luckier than most.  I've been rather unlucky lately, but i guess this is my chance to finally do something at rays tournies...so ill scrub out after round 4, so i can't play in the free side event...obv...

GOOCH!!!!! Why would you say i dont know how to pay?? Is your team still mad about the Silent Arbitor That Ran Amok?!

Hooray for substance fueled brutality, I will be on a rampage and defending my title.  People need to sign up for the GGs after party, should have fat strippers and toothless hookers, hot beer and cold women.  I will be accepting challenges for dance battles and substance competitions.

Rich won over T00l in the finals and ELD in the seminfinals.
"No intentional draws.  I finished with a record of 11-0."
He beat GAT 7 time.
def ELD 2x, Marc Tuttle 2x, Stefan, Mark someone else.
He said he had a round 1 bye, played GAT 7x, GushTendrils 1x, Keeper 1x, Bman 1x.

That is absolutely sick. 11-0? Who does that!?

Congrats to Rich Shay, King of Waterbury!

So did anyone in the building play a non-blue based control deck?

The field had a ton of Workshops and Goblins, but Rich had very unusual pairings.  I am still in shock about how good his deck was.  I have played vs Oath a ton, and this was easily the best build yet.  After our very close swiss match, I expected to be able to adjust and win in the Elimination Rounds, but the opposite was true.  I will likely need to dedicate some sideboard space to swing this match in my favor.

For my matches I played

RD1 The Bye
RD2 Goblins
RD3 2 Land Belcher
RD4 Oath 1st loss to Rich
RD5 Travis
RD6 Confidant/Goyf in Top 16
RD7 ID with Brassman with GAT

Top 16
3cc

Top 8
Travis Shops

Top 4
Oath 2nd Loss to Rich

Congrats Rich on a truly impressive performance.

The meta was really strange. For starters you had only 87 people. Reflection (3 ppl) + the capenters were playing gush oath. That combined with a couple of other oath decks prob brought the total count up somewhere near 8 oath lists, at least 5 of which were in contention till the very end. There were a few of flash (including me), a few ichorid, a bunch of goblins that seemed to dissapear after rd. 3/4, and of course a lot of gush/goyf gat decks. I didnt see any where near the expected number of WS aggro that people have mentioned.

As for non-blue based control, I know elias w/ metalworker mud was in top 16 contention (the cutoff for single elim) until the final round, and both travis and hatcher made it in with workshops. Like a champ I tanked to gat promptly after making t16 with flash.

I think if there was a breakout card from the weekend it wasn't oath (as well as it obv. did), but extripate. TPS, the GG's, and Reflection were all playing X copies either main or board against numerous different matches for all the previously discussed reasons; ala - snag things in control mirrors, smash plans in a will turn, put a kink in combo, ichorid, etc. I failed to hear any "new" ideas on how to use the card; rather suddenly people thought that the incremental possible gains made offset by the loss of a card/loss of deck space. An interesting statement made by T00l after his rd. 6 bubble match with him playing Gat v. Mike L w/ Gush Oath was made after a post board game. Something pretty much along the lines of "once i extripated his FOW's, suddenly I was playing a totaly different (and better) control deck. Who wants to leave 4 mana open for oath + Drain?" No idea on what Mike thought of this play. Seems good though.

anyways, i'm curious to see what the actual breakdown of decks was. What happened to the goblin decks? Why did the WSaggro not make it to top 16? Did Gush Oath really play that much of a spoiler?
