Various people at the tourney have been calling me with updates.  Final round of swiss is ending now.

Approx. 80 people showed.  7 rounds of swiss with cut to top 16.  Confirmed in top 16 are Brassman, Rich Shay, ELD, Marc Tuttle, Chris Hatcher, Stefan Ellsworth, Jeremiah Rudolph and Travis LePlante.  There were many X-2's who are on the bubble.

Refelction all ran Oath apparently.

The Vintage achievement award went to Steve Menendian.

Sounds like a good time.  More info as I get it.  Feel free to update in here if you get anything.

Update:

 ELD, Jeremiah, Hatch and Travis all advance to top 8.

Outlaw and rich shay are playing each other are playing in top 8.  Travis Lost in 8 to ELD and Hatcher lost to tramoaggro.

More updates: T00l is in top 4 with GAT.  ELD is in top 4 with GAT.  Unknown player with Tarmogoyf aggro is also in and the winner of outlaw (ETW-Tog Gush) and Shay (oath) gets the 4th spot in top 4.

So our Oath deck is working. Great news. I don't know what happened, but I hope Rich does well. Go Reflection!

well rich shay works, but tyrant oath might be  the  best deck in the format right now.

Sorry I went to bed before completing updates :p

Top 4 was 3 GAT and Rich.  Rich beat ELD in top 4 and T00l in finals.

Rich ended up winning going 11-0 and undefeated... with oath :O

Congrats to him.

Tyrant Oath is for real now.  Let the SB hate and Oath restricting threads commence!  Congrats to the winner.

Wow, sound like a fantastic tournament!   Congrats to the top 16 and particularly Rich Shay!

It sounds like Oath was a perfect metagame choice.  Rich and I had discussed how badly the MUD matchup had become for GAT.   Oath is a deck that would have a much better matchup against Workshop Aggro.  Rich takes down another Waterbury!  Unreal!   I'm sure if I wasn't standing in his way, he'd also have taken down the Vintage Championship last year as well.

I'm looking forward to reading all of the tournament reports.

Although I haven't had a chance to talk to Ray, thank you for the Vintage Achievement Award! It's a genuine honor! A heartfelt thanks for everyone who voted for me.

Oath will NEVER be restriction worthy.

Congratz to Rich for the win, and Stephen for the achievement award. I can't wait to see reports and decklists for this tournament. I agree with Shock Wave Oath will never ever ever be restricted.

I went 5-1-1 beating Goblins in top 16 and losing to Shay in top 8, destroying my ability for repeat and then later slaying our 3pete waterbury.  Shay will hopefully agree our 3 games were some of if not the best magic that either of us have ever played, at least they were epic and well enough.  GGs played a teched out GAT list that we titled Good Gat Sucka.  Mucho partying after lead to the destruction of a day 2 playing.  Much fun was had, tears were shed, in the end, we became stronger.

The winning Oath deck ran Gushbond for an engine.  I'm pretty sure he went with 2 Tyrants and a Brain Freeze for the winning.

No doubt, he'll write up a report.

hi all, im the 4th person from the top 4. and just to be clear, i was playing your basic GAT deck with the maindeck goyfs. i actually scooped my top 4 match to my opponent, Stefan (T00l? I have no idea) because I needed to go. Still, it was all good since we split the money and they played for glory.

Congrats to the finishers.  Another example that Vintage is skill intensive.

Anyone on Team Reflection care to post their Oath list?

Thanks

I should have added sarcasm or smilies to my post, I guess.  I've been playing Oath for a long while, Akroma and now Tyrant recently.  I just find it funny that there was so much Oath "dismissal" on TMD and now it will get tons of attention.  Both positive and "SB hate" types of attention.

I hope Rock, Harley and 100 yr get credit for all their work on the deck.  If I have my history right I believe they brought all the innovation to Oath with the Tyrant Builds of today.

For Day 2 top 8 was:
1 Belcher/Tendrils Deck
1 Gush Tendrils
1 Hulk Flash
1 Goblins
1 Tidesprout Oath
1 Stax
1 Oath (Non Tyrant)
1 Workshop Aggro

From what I did see of T8
Gush Tendrils beats Oath
Flash Beats Belcher
Goblins beats Oath (non tyrant)
Stax Beats Workshop Aggro
T4:
Flash Beats Gush Tendrils
Goblins Beats Stax
T2:
Flash Beats Goblins.
Go Eli (Morphling420) way to win with Flash

I just returned from Connecticut and am far too tired to write much here. I will, of course, be working on a report in the near future. For now, a couple of notes:

Thank you to my teammates, without whom I wouldn't have been able to do this. Mike, Chris, JR, Nam, Josh, Jeff, Jesus, Kowal -- this is as much yours as mine.

Thank you to Ray and his staff, for running the best tournaments anywhere, ever.

Thank you to my opponents for some exciting and close matches. Josh Schnier, I'm sure we'll see your name in more top eight lists soon. Eric, it is always excellent to play someone of your caliber. Outlaw, that was really close -- a great match.

Finally, here is the Tyrant Oath list that Reflection created.

// Lands
    4 Forbidden Orchard
    1 Island
    3 Flooded Strand
    2 Polluted Delta
    2 Tropical Island
    2 Volcanic Island
    2 Underground Sea

// Mana
    1 Black Lotus
    1 Mox Emerald
    1 Mox Jet
    1 Mox Pearl
    1 Mox Ruby
    1 Mox Sapphire

// Win Conditions
    2 Tidespout Tyrant
    1 Brain Freeze
    1 Flash of Insight
    1 Krosan Reclamation
    4 Oath of Druids

// Draw Engine
    4 Gush
    4 Brainstorm
    4 Ponder

// Control Elements
    3 Thoughtseize
    4 Force of Will
    1 Chain of Vapor

// Search
    1 Demonic Tutor
    1 Vampiric Tutor
    3 Merchant Scroll

// Broken Spells
    1 Fastbond
    1 Ancestral Recall
    1 Yawgmoth's Will
    1 Time Walk

// Sideboard
SB: 2 Pithing Needle
SB: 2 Tormod's Crypt
SB: 1 Blazing Archon
SB: 2 Extirpate
SB: 3 Red Elemental Blast
SB: 1 Fire/Ice
SB: 1 Tendrils of Agony
SB: 3 Shattering Spree

Finally, thank-you to Jeremiah Rudolph. I learned a lot about Oath decks in general and Tyrant Oath in particular by reading his comments in the excellent Oath thread here on TMD. Jeremiah is a very innovative mind.

People dismissed Oath? I never saw any Oath "dismissal" on any boards as of late, Tidespout Oath was putting up the 2nd best numbers, behind Gat.

I think this counts:

And yet, the Oath deck still lost Smile

Well...it is Oath Wink

Just saying the time might be right, especially if people can come up with a build that isn't as clunky as the lists I have seen posted here.

Sean

Regarding the list the splash of red is interesting and I'm anxious to read the reports.

But that's just not true though:
http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/article/15238.html

Oath only had 2 top 8 appearances compared to Workshops 31 and Gush's 30 in late October, November, and December.

My comment that Oath lost was not a dismissal of Oath, it was a statement of fact.

 This was a great event, hats off to Rich for being only the second person to ever win TMDO twice. Hopefully next year I can join those 2 players and repeat. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Ray and his staff for putting on an exceptional event while making it fun for all players.    {W} {U} {B} {R} {G}
