This Stratfordbury was special, due to the fact it was planned as my farewell to magic. I've got a fledgling career to worry about, and I can't have any misused weekends. Once I'm financially stable I may return to the game. But for now, I can't squeeze it in. I'm not fond of long openings, so I'll cut right to the chase.

I have Dubbed the "FISHERMAN"

Maindeck:

4 Trinket Mage
3 Jotun Grunt
3 Auriok Salvagers
1 Ninja of the Deep Hours (AMAZING ALL DAY!)
4 Brainstorm
4 Mana Drain
4 Force of Will
2 Mana Leak
3 Repeal
1 Time Walk
1 Ancestral Recall
4 Swords to Plowshares (I'd like to congratulate my friend Ryan Marek. He was right. Best call ever.)
2 Spellbomb (I think running only 1 is a bad call)
1 Engineered Explosives
1 Sensei's Divining Top
5 Moxen
1 Lotus
1 Sol Ring
4 Flooded Strand
1 Polluted Delta
3 Tundra
5 Islands
1 Plains
1 Strip Mine (Never leave home without it.)

Side:

4 Meddling Mage
3 Kataki
4 Seal of Cleansing (Seems I was right about Oath making a showing.)
3 Trickbind (Seems I wasn't.)
1 Tormod's Crypt

Round 1 - Goblins

Game 1 he gets an early lackey and pile driver. I fight to stay ahead of fast beats. Grunt and swords go all the way here. Ninja bounces a grunt with a large number of counters, and I get a draw engine that's protected by removal and bounce.

Game 2 goes down the wire. He has a very early lackey into siege-gang, I get a trinket mage out that blocks for several turns with repeal. Why he wasn't trying to kill him with siege-gang I haven't a clue. In the end I'm down to 2 life, he's tapped out, but I brainstorm into a combo win.

Round 2- Ichorid

Game 1 is a total blow out. He gets 2 bazaars onboard and I die very soon after.

Game 2 I side in trickbinds, a crypt, and seal of cleansing.
He keeps a hand without bazaar but he's playing mana ichorid and can deal. He gets a Leyline and chalice on the board. I'm in no position to combo, but grunt beats go all the way. I remember bouncing multiple chalices with repeal.

Game 3 My hand is as follows- Trinket Mage, Tormod's Crypt, Island, Strip, Trickbind, Emerald, Time Walk. Enough said.

Round 3 Shop Aggro

Game 1 I die to a Triskelion and welder. I share with my opponent the irony that I died to the creature my metal band is named after.

Unashamed band insert: http://www.myspace.com/triskelionmusic

Game 2 He starts out with a first turn Juggernaut, and I fire back with a blocking grunt. I deal with some guys with swords and seal. I finally I win with a lone Kataki. We laugh over the hilarity of my win. My opponent was a cool guy and I think this was my favorite match.

Game 3 I get a first turn Kataki, and win fairly quickly with the Salvagers Combo. Spectators are shocked by this "WhateverWorks" asks my opponent how I won and was surprised I was playing Bomberman. I was glad my odd build was enough to confuse a few and hoped my luck would continue a few more rounds.

Round 4- TKnaughts without the Naughts

Game 1 Repeal and Swords do the trick.

Game 2 Is very close. I kill his Goyfs with STP, he kills my guys with Smother. He sticks a confidant, and he starts drawing dead. I repeal is confidant, I draw into drain. Drain poofs his confidant. We go draw go for a while, but I'm able to set up a draw engine with Ninja.

Round 5- Tyrant Oath

Game 1 is slow and full of making decisions. I finally win with combo. He is surprised. He makes me go through the motions to see my creatures. He sees grunts and does the math.

Game 2  I Seal a quick Oath, and keep him off another one. I walk a tight rope swinging with creatures, but they go all the way. I end the game with 2 STP, 1 FoW, and 1 Drain in hand.

Round 6- Shay with Oath

I'm already a shoe in to top 16 and I feel like having a fun game vs Shay.

Game 1 After a ton of minor plays, I'm left with little of anything in my hand. I go guns a blazing with grunt facing an active oath. I have 2 Swords in hand, but they're not enough.

Game 2 I combo quickly after dealing with Oath. But there's a catch! He plays Brain Freeze. Oh well.

Round 7 I Draw

Record before Top 16:

5/1/1 in 5th

Top 16 Round 1 vs Travis

My loss was rather quick.

Game 1 What the hell is he playing??????????? I lose to 2 Duplicants and an active welder. GG

Game 2 I thought I had good side vs this monstrosity, but it seems I lose to Monkey Cage.  Sad

What a great day of magic. And that night is a bit of a hush hush. (CONSTANTLY ATTACK!!!) Had to be there.  Huge! props to Ray.

- Peace

Charles, your testing with me as I passed out was very appreciated.  I think your a good player, and I won't be surprised to see you do well in the future.  Rock on for now, magic will come later.

Somebody tell Chapin how counterbalance works?

Charles, we are more than going to miss you in the Vintage community.  I'm sure you'll come back though once you have money sorted out (you always do, not the first time you "quit").  Anywho I'm sure I'll still be seeing you on a regular basis.  Team Glitch for the win!  Very Happy  And as always you know whenever you want to go to a tournament just ask, I'm sure I can throw something together for you.
