So....anyone else playing Brawl? I've had it for release but have barely had any time to get any online matches going.  If anyone else has it, I would love to get some games going.  My friend code is 3308-4299-5724

P.S. Game and Watch for the win.

Game and Watch is pretty cool.  I like Sheik but personally Random is the most fun way to play.  Sadly I am stuck playing on friend's systems since I don't have a Wii =[

When I heard that Solid Snake would make an appearance I had to run out and get the game. I have been playing it off and on when I can, but it's not really fun to play by yourself  Smile Sadly my modem doesn't allow the Wii to hook up on the internet so I can't play online, but the game is still really fun.

I started off with Metaknight, until I realized he can't knock anyone off the map, switched to Toon Link. After I Randomed Lucas, I haven't gone back. His Up+A is really strong and has a decent range.

I am primarily using  Metaknight and Game and Watch.  I would probably just stick to Metaknight if he had any kill moves, like Gooba mentioned.  If your good at just gimping people off the stage, than hes a beast.  They improved Game and Watch so much, he's so much fun to play, especially against projectile spammers where you can just use the Bucket for a free kill.   I use to main Captain Falcon in Melee, but frankly, hes awful right now.

Falcon in Melee was a one-trick pony with the Knee of Doom. Ganon was better in every other way. I was disappointed in the Melee Falcon after him being one of my mains in the original.

Metaknight's smashes are all right; I keep trying to use him, but it hasn't been working out too well.

So far, I like ROB, Lucario, and Ike for new characters. Lucario fills in my "bad character that I main" slot that Mewtwo took up in Melee. ROB and Ike are both strong.

Jer and I just beat all 21 2-player events on hard!   With me using Kirby, and him with Ike.

I have tried single player event #41 probable 300 times.  The best I've done was 1 kill on each, and once I killed Snake twice but no other kills on the other characters.
-----------------

I like that they made some characters alot more powerful.  Kirby, Game and Watch, Fox (to a lesser extent), Shiek, PEACH.  They all hit harder than the did in Melee.  I desparetly wanted Metaknight to be good, but as many have said his ability to finish people is sevearly laking.  He makes a good teammate though.  His B-moves are really un-impressive.  His Down smash is almost always how I finish people.

One thing that I don't like is how they slowed down dodging.  Melee was all about the dodge... but Brawl has totally differant timeing on dodges.  Still getting used to it...

One thing I do like is that you can run around and jump with weapons active.  This makes the superscope probably one of the deadliest items in the game now.   Master the hold A, and jump to master the scope.

Peach was really good in Melee. Her downsmash was stupidly powerful and the rest of her moves were mostly average to above average. Combine that was being a medium character with great horizontal recovery, and she was one of the better Melee characters.

For items, it's all about the FAN!

Yeah peach was definately good before... the problem was she was a bit predictable and easy to dodge.  I think they tweeked her speed a bit, and definatly her new attacks are more above average in power than before.  Also, toad went from an interupter/annoyance to a serious finishing move in brawl.  Peach is definatly a top-choice character now in my oppinion.

I think the real question now is:

Who do you pick, Shiek or Zelda?

PS: Has anyone else noticed how Ganondorf runs in Brawl?
It's the funniest animation I've ever seen in a video game.

Zelda got mega buffed, Shiek got nerfed a little

Your better off playing Zelda these days, her Side B is stupid good and all her moves can Ko pretty easily.

For 1 on 1. or 2 on 2:
Get good at switching.
Play Shiek is if Its low % vrs low % (so start as shiek).  Quick moves and fast dodge recovery are vital.  Once you get your opponent to 80-100% knock them back, and switch to Zelda.  Then finish them.  If your % is under 50% switch back to Shiek otherwise stay Zelda and milk your superior recovery... if you ever spawn with your opponent under 60%~ish use your invaulerability time to switch to shiek.

For 3-man brawl:
Zelda, power is really important in 3-man.

For 4-man brawl:
Shiek probably (I haven't played enough 4-mans to really know).  I prefer speed to power in 4-man brawl.

I've currently been playing alot of Kirby in 1-1 and 3-man brawl.  I'm very pleased with him.  Air-Hammer for the win!
Still trying to get the hang of Lucario in 3-man... I either get totally hosed or totally clean up.

LOL It's funny to hear magic players talk about smash. According to the 2006 tier list, Falcon is the 6th best character in Melee.

I always dug ganondorf in melee. does anyone think they may have powered him down a bit. His down+b move used to trump most moves, and canceled out with a few, save large projectiles. Now when the move is performed and some one attacks you you just fall over and take damage.

also, you changed the dodge mechanic a bit, previously when you did a roll dodge forward, you would face the opposite direction, in brawl you face the same direction, it really messes with me.

someone also asked how you pick shiek or zelda. Once you select the  character click the portrait of the one you want to start out with, the one you start out with should be pictured in front of the other one.

Ganondorf is pretty much crap in this version. They nerfed him to all hell so now he can't really edge-guard, most of his smashes suck and his recovery is among the worst in the game.

He's generally considered to be low tier at best, although the Japanese rank him dead last when they released their ranks.

Some people on Smashboards argue that he is still decent due to a few good things he can do; his shorthopped d-air is quite good and his side-b can combo decently.  On the whole, though, he's slow, clunky, and doesn't have any good, swift moves to fall back on when you can't land something slow and powerful.  Ganon was solid in Melee, but would not have been without the tap (neutral-a on the ground), d-tilt, etc.  Making his side-airs weaker also ruined his edgeguarding/chasing capacity, as Vegeta rightly points out.

Metaknight actually turns out to be pretty good, although several people have been correct in saying that getting kills is the hard part.  His neutral-b (tornado) and various aerials are all quite strong, and his recovery is obviously insane.  This means that it is easy to rack up damage and stay alive, just leaving you to find a way to kill.  Chasing is going to be your main weapon there; it's important to get very adept at following opponents further out away from the stage than you normally would and repeatedly hitting them back away.  You can always glide back from far away, while they will eventually get far enough out that just reusing their up-b won't cut it.  Speaking of up-b attacks, btw, Metaknight's is one of his strongest kill moves.

I've mostly been using PK Trainer and Diddy Kong.  I hated Ivysaur at first, but he turns out to be quite good once you get the hang of landing his neutral-b (guaranteed 35% in most situations, and sometimes more, especially if they are bad at directional influence), up-smash (one of the game's strongest moves), and aerials.  Too bad he has one of the easily-gimped tether recoveries.  Diddy just owns with high-priority aerials and the sweet combos you can do with bananas on the ground (fyi for those who don't know:  Diddy's cartwheel dash attack will pick up any bananas it crosses, letting you throw a banana to knock them down, then dash attack, hitting them and picking up the banana, then throw the banana again.  This can rack up damage very fast).
