I dont even know who you are, but i'll snort lines off your dead body.

Heh, as if fate wanted to punish me, Justin and I got paired up round 1 and he beat the crap out of me 2-0.  He combo'd off so well game 1 that I was expecting the Tendrils kill, only to have him drop down painter and grindstone.  Game two wasn't much different.  As if that wasn't bad enough, he reminded me of a time about two years ago when I was playing belcher and he defeated me in the Swiss.  So I guess I should edit my statement to say that I'm undefeated against him in the Top 8? /shrug

I had alot of fun and took home $120 for my efforts.  Both Rich and I were tired and we both made play mistakes in the Finals, but he made alot less than I did, so deservedly took home the big bucks.  Atleast I got some really good verbal taunts in.  Congrats on the win Rich.

I would like to thank everyone that came out for the event.  I hope everyone had a great time.  We should be posting our next type I very soon.
Don't forget June 28th is our Anniversary Legacy Tournament for a Mox Pearl.

Rich, you didn't run Mystical Tutor?

Also, I'm curious to see your general sideboarding strategies.

My friend Matt top 8ed and didn't get ANYTHING for prize support after going undefeated in the swiss. They should have just cut to top 4. It seems unfair that people who lost more matches actually got prizes insted of Mat.

20 showed, probably lower due to regionals.

Is the 1st quote an exaggeration, showing why draft sets are not the best prizes for Vintage players, or did the TO not stick to it's word?  I know I would not have tolerated a TO changing the deal after they posted it online.  I am interested to hear more about this, as there is no excuse for not keeping your word.

A player could slip into the top 8 as eighth seed with a x-2 (or very likely as X-1-1) record in some swiss situations and then end up winning the tournament while the X-0 player loses the first round of the top 8.   The top seed may then get only 5th place while the 8th seed ends up in first, with the latter getting a Mox and the former getting nothing.

So what?   Match losses, ultimately, doesn't matter in magic.   I don't see how that's inherently unfair that a person who "lost more matches" got prizes instead of someone else who ultimately got further into the top 8.

While I was not officially running the event, the event was held in my shop.  I added up the amount of cash that was given out as prize support, which was $400.00 .  If for some reason 5th-8th was not awarded any prize (a draft set) for making top 8 let me know.  I will gladly supply the draft sets to those of you that did not receive them.

As far as I was concerned everyone enjoyed the event; there were NO complaints after I announced the proposed prize structure BEFORE top 8 began that since we only had 20 players, and didn't reach any of the higher plateaus, of having a 200/120/40/40 split for the top four. You know what I heard? No complaints. You know what I also heard? Compliments on the fact that I was giving every single dollar back in prize support.

Had any of the players piped up and preferred to have played for the originally proposed structure - even JUST ONE - then of course I would have kept the original posting. I proposed the 200/120/40/40 versus a 270/70/10/10/10/10/10/10 to remove part the severe 1st place overweighting of the prize pool.

So yes? Apparently I made an honest mistake and still gave out all the prizes in a form that the top 8ers chose. I will happily award anyone who finished 5th-8th the draft sets out of pocket - that is to say EXTRA PRIZES beyond the money that was taken in at a personal loss.

Sundering Jerk, I'm sorry your friend Matt (Flash player right?) received nothing - he could have easily mentioned the original prize structure before the top 8 and that he wanted that, and that is what I would have held it to instead of a some sort of top 4 total entrance fee prize split. I hope in the future either/both of you return, and feel free to PM me or say hi at the workshop event if you care to chat.

P.s. ELD get off my nuts. You don't give back 100% of entrance fees and bitch and moan and swear when people question that fact. I can happily post the rude and crass messages you sent me after the prize support thread was closed, where you repeatedly mentioned "I don't care for the opinion of someone who has never been to one of my tournaments." Thank you Mr. Hypocrite, as I've surely never seen you at one of my events, and yet here you are - criticizing me for giving back all entrance fees. WHOOPS.

I was simply asking if there was a mistake, or if you did not follow what had been posted online.  A lesson one might take away from this is easily observed.  People do not always speak up in person, as they may not want confrontation.  The best way to avoid that issue is sticking to ones word.  I have dealt with similar situations when I have had lower than normal turn outs, and sticking to one's word completely prevents this issue.

I would urge anyone who plans on running events to stick to what they post online.  Varying from it can have unpredicted blowback, as we have seen from this event.  People often drive hours to attend events.  New players are often not familiar with everyone in the room.  They should not have to start off the event by alienating themselves by being a lone dissenting voice.  Luckily, sticking to ones word is an easy remedy.

I have no plans of attending any event that you are in charge of.  Your unprofessional behavior has ensured this.  If a TO can't post on TMD without constant negative, and even hateful comments, I have no need to support their events.  Your previous comment about "firebombing people you don't agree with" was the icing on the cake.

I was not commenting on you giving back all the entrance fees.  I was asking what happened at the event.  Now that I have the facts, my question is answered.  If you do give 5th - 8th their draft sets, then I would commend you for fixing the result of your error in judgment.  It would help you become a better TO if you took the time to understand the points I attempted to lay out here.  The fact that someone made Top 8 in your event and has a legitimate complaint is evidence of my point.

Ok, check. Yeah, I don't do this for a profession, I do it for fun - thanks for the tips though.

And I will make sure those finishers get their draft sets if they felt they were mistaken in agreeing to the structure - however I would hope that someone could raise there hand and ask me a question if they had one, or reminded me of the original structure (admittedly I should have asked if people preferred that first(.
