Well, Tommy wins again. The finals was Tommy Kolowith with PitchLong vs Mike Shean with Control Slaver. Tommy took the match in 3 intensely fought games. Apparently Phyrexian Negator trumps the metagame. I'll have more details tomorrow, but if you want to see more you can check out teamicbm.com I have a LOT of pictures to post as well.

Sweet tournament. I ended up at 4-2 with URBana after playing the bye, 4 storm combo decks, and an Oath. Missed top 8 due to having a whopping 43% tiebreaker. Never seen a tiebreaker that low before after 6 rounds of magic. Oh well. It was a fun time and a well run tournament. I hope I will be able to make it to your next event.

The final was a good match. Congrats to TK, well played. My day was a roller coaster. I'll probably post a report tomorrow. I can't wait to see the pics of all my proxies at the T8 table. Thanks very much to Ben for upping the prize support to 1st = Mox Jet and 2nd = Mox Ruby even though we only had 37 people.

Oh dear is this going to be a long post. I'll start by getting some of the basics out of the way. 37 people 1. Tommy Kolowith--PitchLong (UL Mox Jet) 2. Mike Shean--Control Slaver (UL Mox Ruby) 3. Jimmy McCarthy--Control Slaver (2 RV Underground Sea) 4. Jason Jaco--Aggro/Control Painter (2 RV Underground Sea) 5. Owen Turtenwald--ICBM Tendrils (Force of Will) 6. Jeremy Seroogy--Belcher (Force of Will) 7. Brian Fisher--Control Slaver (Chinese foil Mindslaver) 8. Duby Duby--DEEZ NOUGHTS (Force of Will) Metagame breakdown was 26 different decks. Out of 4 Slavers, 3 made top 8, though I suspect that reflects player skill. 4 UBR GrimLong 4 Control Slaver 2 Dem Goyfs 2 ICBM Tendrils 2 Goblins 2 Drain Tendrils 2 Belcher 1 UB PitchLong 1 Fish 1 URBana Fish 1 Dragon 1 Tyrant Oath 1 LandStill 1 5-C Stax 1 It's Raining Men 1 UWR Control 1 Cerebral Assassin 1 DEEZ NOUGHTS 1 SS Nought sort of 1 Painter Salvager 1 Manaless Ichorid 1 Painter Gifts 1 Worse than Gro 1 Mana Ichorid 1 Tyrant Blue 1 Aggro/Control Painter 5 former SCG Champions were in attendance--Owen Turtenwald, Jamison Bryant, Tommy Kolowith, Jeremy Seroogy, and Brian Fisher. Jimmy McCarthy took 2nd at one recently, and many other players in attendance are the equivalent of Type 1 pros. This was an extremely competitive metagame. Thanks to everyone for coming. The tournament ran extremely well, except for a round 1 re-pair and a few minor judge calls, and everyone was fun to hang out with as always. Thanks to everyone who helped me set up. I have a 25-proxy Legacy event in two weeks, and the next Vintage Open will be either the 3rd or 4th Sunday of August, most likely for a Lotus. Here are the top eight decklists. 1. And here are some top 8 pictures: Top 8--Jimmy McCarthy (L) vs Brian Fisher It looks grim for Brian Fisher in this Slaver mirror Jeremy Seroogy looks happy about his 7 Jason Jaco forgot his playmat. How tragic! Top 8 match--Duby Duby (L) vs Mike Shean Tommy Kolowith in his top 8 match Owen Turtenwald faces down Tommy Kolowith in a battle of the ICBM Titans Owen's board in the ever-so-fun combo mirror Jeremy Seroogy playing in his top 8 match Brian Fisher (left, with Tormod's Crypt) takes it like a man Tommy Kolowith, still in top 8 The top 4 matches--Jimmy McCarthy (LF) vs Tommy Kolowith, and Jason Jaco (back left) vs Mike Shean Jimmy McCarthy cements his lock vs PitchLong Tommy Kolowith tries to figure out how the hell to beat Tormod's Crypt and DOUBLE Arcane Lab Mike Shean in top 4 What's this? Triplets! Jimmy McCarthy's Tormod's Crypt tries to camouflage itself Tommy's lonely Phyrexian Negator slices through the combo hate Tommy leads off the finals with a Duress, taking a (proxied) Force of Will Game 2 of the finals, Tommy's hand is not that exciting Mike Shean taps out for a Thorn and Arcane Lab, so Tommy takes the opportunity to introduce Mike to his 5/5 trampling friend Game 3 Mike leads with Tinker for Titan, holding a Force for TK's next spell Tommy stalls, then Desires for 4 into a Gifts Ungiven for this pile Tommy chumps with Confidant while setting up for a huge Will And Tommy wins the tournament with a Yawgmoth's Will into a lethal Tendrils. He pulls the game out of his ass, going down to one life and flipping a Bloodstained Mire to Confidant to stay alive.

This tournament was a blast. There was a pretty good degree of skill level in the room that day. I hung out with the Ohio crew of Twaun and Yangtime the whole weekend, and we stayed at LHC's (Jimmy McCarthy) place (thanks for that too).
Mad props to tournament organizer Ben Carp for upping the prize pool and giving out 2 Moxes with 37 people in attendance! The Midwest is lucky to have such a great tournament organizer. Now we just need these tournaments to consistently be on Saturdays and the attendance will increase even more (hint!).
See you guys at the Vintage World Championship August 2.

These are always excellent tournaments and this one was no exception. Congrats to Tommy, our match was pretty epic but in the end he definitely was the better player in game 2 and deserved to win it. I look forward to the next ICBM Open and to seeing everyone at Nationals.
And, as much as I hate to say it, Control Slaver is pretty solid. It's still full of a bunch of terrible cards other than Tinker and Will, but everyone else is playing with garbage too so it seems to be good enough. By Nats, I'll have come up with a better combo board plan...

I had fun, despite my scrubby performance for the day. Maybe next time i'll have to actually play a competetive deck.

What is up with TK's sleeves? Does he always use them? I always thought that those holo sleeves were illegial(granted tournament obviously wasnt sanctioned) Also, does TK own power and not play with it, or does he just sell it all?
anyway nice pitch long list, love negators in the board.

TK likes to play with sleeves with detailed backings so he can make small marks on the back of important cards like Yawgmoth's Will, Black Lotus, and Ancestral Recall.
How else can he win with Hymn to Tourach and Phyrexian Negator.

Back in 1990 Dr. Dre named his breakout album after these ICBM tournys.
I played Billy D and started off 2-0. Then I had to play 2 GWSers in a row. Hmmmmm? ICBM runs tourny. ICBM makes GWSers knock each other out of tourny. ICBM...... diabolical.
The tourney was great and I will be at the next one for sure.
Props -Playing vs the best people in the word. -Yangtime for being the only other Ohioan willing to make the journey. -Meeting GWSers that I have only met through the series of tubes known as the interwebs. -Hanging out with Jaco all weekend...... the guy is Ballin! -Getting to punch Jimmy McCarthy's sandwich at Steak and Shake after the tourney. -Chicago deep dish pizza.
Slops -Toll roads and gas. -No one else from C-town being able to make it. -Jimmy McCarthy's living room table.

Yet another great event thanks to ICBM. Getting a turn two kill against one of the ichorid decks was probably the most amazing seven cards deez noughts has ever given me. Lotus, nought, nought, mask, ruby, waste, demonic, Seems like the perfect set up to crushinate. My games against Seroogy were great as well, i plan on evening the score against you next time Thron of ameythest was pretty sweet tech that james king suggested and they came in almost every game. I played against 4 combo decks in the swiss and almost stole game 3 against seroogy with one on the table. The list was solid all day, thanks to grant champion for the list and playtesting the week before, the only deck that seemed difficult was slaver, playing against mike showed that i might have to rethink my sb strat against slaver. After the event i think phyrexian negator might be some good Deez nOUghts pwns n00bs

Then again, in our T8 match I ripped the R&R off the top to deal with your dreadnought.

Yeah my sleeves were pretty terrible. they dont sell dragon shields so i just buy the worst sleeves they have every time. the deck was solid all day the only match i lost i may have one if it wasnt for a slight mistake I probably should have lost a few games during the day to but bad play is easy to capitalize on with combo. no report this time cant give out to much info before nats just have to say winner winner chiken dinner.

I just noticed Mike Shean used my exact list including SB (-1 mystic remora, +1 gorilla shaman) that I played in NJ on 7/6/08. http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=36125.0Mike if you could PM me I'd like to ask you some questions about the list. Likes, dislikes, what you would change.... Also, I'm not to familiar with these forums, so if anyone knows Mikes TMD user name so I could try PMing him that would be much appreciated.

No what was awful is Jimmy's turn 1 Kill in Saga Pack war v. Twaun because they didn't cut 1 card combo's, and smashed Jimmy smashed twaun with a Stroke of Genius.
