I'm waiting on tournament data from my judge staff, but I wanted to get out the preliminary report. Thank you to everyone who made this weekend a success. I learned a great deal about how Europe differs from the New England scene. I will be sure to make the adjustments for next time, so we can improve and cater the event towards those differences. Next time the prizes will be more top heavy, with massive prizes for 1st! I'd like to thank everyone who made these events the successes they were. Without the support of everyone involved, the event would not have been possible. My trusty Judges - These guys were on top of everything all weekend. Their professionalism was key to making things successful. I could not have done it without them.   Over the Edge Games - The reason the tournament took place. Their coordinating was key to making everything fall into place. The Players - The support and encouragement we received was overwhelming. With your support, I hope this kind of event becomes a frequent occurrence. Day 1: Vintage 11:30 amThe first day of Magic began Friday at 10am. After a day of prepping, we were ready to go. I arrived at the hall to see the judges had already numbered the tables, and a good crowd had already begun to gather. Fridays event was Vintage, so we hoped to use it to gauge enthusiasm for the format and future events. I had expected a modest turn out, seeing as it was a Friday morning. I was surprised to get 68 players! We began right at 11:30 and the judge staff proved to be excellent all weekend. The excitement for Vintage was electric, and I was greatly encouraged by the prospect of future tournaments in Spain. The excellent turn out allowed me to give away a Mox a piece to the Top 3, a Grim Tutor to 4th, and the rest of the Top 8 got to choose from goodness including Dual Lands, Force of Wills, Foils and Asian cards. Of course, the Top 8 also received a Custom Proxy Future Shifted Bazaar of Baghdad.  Winner Day 1  2nd Place Day 1  3rd & 4th Day 1  5th-8th Day 1     Day 2: Legacy 5pm 1st Place 40x DualsWe didn't have anything set in stone for Saturday. With the great show of support on Friday, we decided to put out a large prizes pool and see what happened. We assumed that starting at 5pm would be a deterrent to some players, and we had almost no publicity for this event. With those factors in mind, we again expected a modest turn out. To our surprise, we ended up with 75 players, allowing me to give out huge prizes. The judges handled the Finals/3rd & 4th playoff, so I have no pictures of the winners. 1st: Set of 40x Dual Lands 2nd: Set of 20x Fetchlands 3rd: Set of 4x Tarmogoyf 4th: Set of 4x Phyrexian Dreadnought 5th-8th: 3x Choices from cards including every Dual Land, 4x Unlimited Dual Lands, Fetch Lands and other Legacy Staples 5th-8th Legacy 
Day 3: High Stakes VintageWith the huge success of Day 1 and 2, we prepared for what a huge Day 3. This time we were surprised by a lower than expected turn out. Apparently the travel issues, coupled with a long weekend of Magic had found many players unable to participate. With 34 players, I couldn't go crazy with the prizes the way I had hoped, but was still able to give away a Mox each to the Top 4. 5th-8th received a Mana Drain. The top unproxied deck chose a Foil Goblin Welder. Of course, the Top 8 all received a Custom Proxy Textless Mishra's Workshop. I was able to speak to many of the players present, and I received a lot of excellent feedback both on what we did right, and where we could improve. I've sent in another request to the judges. If anyone knows the judges personally, and could encourage them to send me the Final Standings and Playoff Results, I will be able to get the decklists up.

did everyone speak English?
how much did it cost to fly there and stay there(American)?
how much was the entry fee?
do the Spanish appreciate pimp and custom work?
did you run into any language problems?

q: did everyone speak English? a: no, and the vast majority did not q: how much did it cost to fly there and stay there(American)? a: it cost me over $1000 to fly there round trip, because this is peak travel season, and it ain't cheap. i believe the hotel we stayed at was next door to the tournament, and was about 25 EURO ($37.50) a night per person, based on two single beds, and two people per room. q: how much was the entry fee? a: friday's tournament was 15 EURO, or about $22.50, sunday's tournament was 40 EURO, or about $60 q: do the Spanish appreciate pimp and custom work? a: yes q: did you run into any language problems? a: not really. having a friend (or 3) who speak spanish, along with knowing a few key words or phrases is enough to get by ELD's original announcement can be found here: http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=36071.0 |

i DID talk to the judges and they told me you (ELD) have the decklists. they DID send them to you more than once, and you told all of us you were going to post them as soon as you came back to the US. where are the lists?
another question: will there be more tournaments here in Spain organized by you?

I have written Dario several times. I do have a stack nearly 200 decklists. What I have requested several times is the final standings, and Top 8 results so I can type out the winning lists. The tournaments were run on their computer, so I have zero information. I have asked for them several times, I cannot think of another way to ask. Perhaps someone reading this post could get communicate this message in a way that results in me getting the information that I need.

I have a question for Eld, I am brand new to vintage and I have read articles and followed vintage for quite a while, I was wondering how you make proxies, I don't want to compete with your or anything because they are pimp. But I have talked to people and no one seems to know how to help me or is unwilling, I need to proxy 3 cards and I would like to know how to make my own. Also I was wondering how to go about purchasing some or your proxies???

Congratulations on running such successful events Eric. It's great for Vintage that you're promoting the game the way you are.
On another note, Jose Alascio is an excellent player. He is one of the best I've played against. I'm not surprised he had such strong finishes.
