I don't like Arbiter for not playing nice with Stoneforge Mystic, but otherwise I think it's got potential. White's tax mechanic is a good angle to take in regard to its aggro-control, and it's something that could always use more fleshing out; Suppression Field, Glowrider, this guy, Propaganda, Kataki, Aven Mindcensor, etc. I can hear Don LaFontaine singing its praises now - "In a world where your fetchlands cost 4 to activate... "
It's too bad about Mystic though, at least in Legacy that card has a really potent effect against an aggro field - MoR + Mystic + silver bullet Equipment = hotness, and this new guy directly fucks with that. If Leonin Arbiter's effect proves to be strong enough there won't be a reason to run the Mystic, which means no toolbox equipment card face-punching, which I really like to do. :( OTOH if Arbiter matters less than it seems like it does it'll make Yet Another Bear on the sideboard, forever fighting with True Believer for table scraps.

Well in weenie style decks in Legacy, you have AEther Vial. I really like the idea of vialing in this guy and stopping fetches in response.

[Myr Galvanizer] I like it. Mana Myr plus two of this guy (or copies) makes for really really simply infinites. Jank for sure, but infinites nonetheless. Edit: Took the IMG out of the quote

I suppose it's mostly the thought that this format is just one big Mistake; and not even a very sophisticated one at that.
Much like humanity itself.

Painsmith -> Hurkyl's -> Rite of Consumption? I'd be curious to see a storm combo build focused on 4x mainboard Hurkyl's and some Rebuilds. It might even be able to fit 3-4 Opals. Inherently having outs to Spheres/Chalice/Rod could be nice.

This is interesting. Between Shrapnel Blast and this new thing, Affinity has the best mana-to-damage ratio for burn spells of any deck. I'm really looking forward to this new set.

I think it suffers from "Worse than Tendrils" since it requires the same 2BB to win True enough. It is notable though, that dropping Smith a turn earlier lets you split that cost across two turns, and also lets you storm out at 4 instead of 9. If you have the gas to cast nine artifacts with an active Smith, you also might not neet to cast the Rite at all. Still probably not worth the vulnerability to creature removal though. Shrug.

Too bad Etched Champion kinda sucks. I was expecting a 4/4 for given that name and recent power creep.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.
Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops. I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Yeah I am having trouble getting excited about Etched Champion. I'm with Dub; the power creep over the last few years makes this guy more of a 'neat' card than a competitive one. People have talked about it @ the Source in some kind of jankety 'mid-range Affinity' shell, and I can appreciate the scariness of one of these guys holding a Cranial Plating. But other than that it's a 2/2 for 3 in a world of 3/3s for 1 and even bigger Goyfs, can't block Ionas or Tombstalkers or Larit Mages and it will never cost less than 3 in a deck that really only wants to pay 3 if it's dropping a Plating and swinging or like, doing 9 to the dome.

To anyone familiar with MTGbuzz.com,
There were links to a site on the upper right of mtgbuzz that would take you to a site that had all of the spoiler cards for a set as they are spoiled. Does anyone know the name of this site? mtgbuzz seems to be down and I want to look at the list.

Too bad Etched Champion kinda sucks. I was expecting a 4/4 for given that name and recent power creep. He's not bad when you compare him to something like Stillmoon Cavalier. Probably not that great in eternal formats, but probably decent in Standard where walls and stuff see play.

Man I miss Skullclamp.
I sort of wish Myrsmith wasn't a shitty Wirewood Hivemaster. Those tokens could probably cost 0.

That is a pretty cute combo for a Trinket Mage based deck.

lol That'd be broken. I dunno, Wirewood Hivemaster isn't broken. Then again I don't suppose there are any Elves that cost 0 while there are many many artifacts that cost 0.
