Though probably expected, testing with Steve's Bazaar Oath shell (-3 Tidespout, -1 Krosan Reclaimation, -1 Brain Freeze, -1 Flash of Insight, -1 Gush, -1 Tormod's Crypt, +2 Sharuum, +2 Spellweaver, +4 Chalice) has not gone well.  Honestly, Bazaar is just way the f#$% too slow in this meta and belongs nowhere near a blue card until something changes.

If Bazaar didn't cramp your mana development this would actually be very viable.  Unfortunately, just getting the 1GB to play Oath and Duress in the same turn was a real challenge: Bazaar means that you'll be lucky to have a meaningful threat online by turn 3.  Having the ability to play Helix (even just imprinting Duress and Deep Analysis) cripples your opponent.  But...they have to already be crippled for you to get to turn 3-4 and resolve something like that.

This is the most terrible Oath package ever, it flat out loses to Goblin Welder, Ancient Grudge and if that wasn't enough it also depends on it's graveyard. What advantages does this have over Aggro Oath, Tyrant Oath or Platinum Oath? I just can't think of a reason to run this package if I were to play Oath.

Has anyone tried playing Nullstone Gargoyle in Oath?

Here is what it reads

Nullstone Gargoyle  (9)
Artifact Creature- Gargoyle
Flying
When ever the first non-creature spell each turn is played, coutner that spell.
4/5

I only mention it because it still seems superior to Sharuum in the fact that with sharuum you have to
a) Hope that artifacts go into the grave before sharuum
b) Hope that a Posessed portal actually hits the graveyard
c) Hope that those two are enough to actually win the game.

Regarding the Sharuum Oath/Leyline combo, one other thing we kicked around on the team boards when sharuum was spoiled was a lone rector & cabal, so in case you didn't want to run powder for leyline you could rector it into play. Of course you may whiff & get sharuum when you needed rector or vice versa, but it was a thought. The oath acts as a backup for both combo pieces at that point (or as a slower combo if you used it for both ends of the leyline/helm combo).

I cant really answer any questions as to how it worked out since were all working on different decks at the moment. Best of luck.

I myself don't understand why a deck like this is in Open instead of Improvement.  Nobody has given a solid reason for why this is better than any of the other oath builds out right now.  In my opinion, being stone dead to many cards that every good vintage player plays (Tormods Crypt, Relic of Progenitus, ancient grudge...etc) doesn't seem like a viable strategy.

It's not *dead* to graveyard removal, just worse than Tyrant/Fatty Oath.  You still have a 5/5 flying beater.

The compelling reason to play this over other versions would be an immediate combo kill.  In the slower meta we had pre-Gush unrestriction, the Bazaar-Deep Analysis engine with Sharuum and Spellweaver Helix would have been perfectly viable.  Right now, Oath itself is really too slow.

Interesting card.  My only concern with it is that it is a very slow clock, 2 turns slower than Hellkite.  The effect is very strong, but I'm not sure if it's worth the dramatic slow down.

It does look like a very interesting target for Welder and Dread Return though.
