Heya,

I really like the fact that you do a Type 4 review too.  This set is a bonanza for that format.   Maybe the best ever!  Let me ask really fast, if you play maelstrom angel, you still get to play the extra spell thanks to its ability, right?

As far as Vintage goes, I see this set as contributing as much as Morningtide and Eventide did.  I agree Master Transmuter might be really good some day.  Banefire could be a new win condition for Elf decks.  Path to Exile might replace StP for Fish decks.  There's several cards with potential, but there's nothing that jumps out at me like Ponder, Thorn of Amethyst, or Thoughtseize did.  Time will tell.

Peace,

-Troy

I don't really see what Banefire adds over Grapeshot.  It's not like I'm prone to having 20 mana lying around when I'm not also capable of storming to 20.

That being said, maybe Ancient Hydra?  For 7 mana it is a 10/10.  For 12 it is a 20/20.  It might be a decent back-up win condition.

and Forcefield prevent damage from Progenitus

With the new Forcefield wording, it can't target progentious right?

I thought about having it in my oath, but it's a waste of a sideboard slot as far as I tested. Its slow, can never be hardcasted. Maybe I should try to play type4 so use these cool creatures for once, but no one I know likes type4.

I really like Path of Exile, using it knowing your opponent doesn't have a basic land ( left) is great, and not giving him 11 life can be pretty good at the same time.

Yes,Tarmogoyf is probably better than Chameleon Colossus, but comparing it to Tarmogoyf is like comparing your girlfriend to Carmen Electra - one's versatile and reliable, the other's just big and cheap.(And you'd run both if you could get away with)

Banefire can be hit by Commandeer and Misdirection, while Grapeshot can be hit by Stifle.

It depends entirely on the house rules you use, as the ACC Rule wasn't part of the initial outline of Type 4. It came about as a suggestion after the format got popular. Some people play with a rule that says "If it didn't cost you any mana to play it, it doesn't count as your spell for the turn." This would allow things like Spelljacked cards and this to be free, as well as cost reduced like Convoke and Affinity if you met the conditions.

I haven't played in forever, but my group used to use the following rule: "If the card uses the phrase 'rather than pay,' then as long as you pay that other cost, it's free." This allows things like Bringers from 5D to be free and allows Fist of Suns and North Star to give you extra spells, but wouldn't make the cards off the Angel free. It's the most literal translation of ACC, and the wording that cards such as Force of Will and Misdirection use.

And then some don't play with any ACC rule at all.
