On February 22, Xtreme Games held a tournament with a Mox Emerald for first, Italian Drain for second, Tropical Islands for 3-4 and $20 in credit for 5-8.  21(I think? maybe a few more) players attended and in the end Jimmy McCarthy defeated James King in a one-game final to deteremine the winner.  Top 8 bracket was as follows:

Jimmy McCarthy def. Lyle Cleveland
Nicholas Cleveland def. Isaac Siegmund
Damien Miller def. Kurt Maske
James King def. Joey Catardi

Jimmy McCarthy def. Damien Miller
James King def. Nicholas Cleveland

Jimmy McCarthy def. James King

Final Standings:

Jimmy
James
Damien
Nicholas
Isaac
Joey
Kurt
Lyle

The metagame had a ton of Oath and a pretty high amount of Ichorid compared to normal, along with at least 3 painter decks and a few Fish decks.  I only saw 2 Tezzeret decks in the room, but I could be wrong and there could have been another one or two I didn’t see.  Anyway, on to the decklists (sorry if they’re ordered poorly, I’m just going by the order they wrote stuff on the sheets):

Thanks to everyone who attended, personally I had a lot of fun and enjoyed the event.  This was my second tourney at Xtreme Games and both have been well-run with good prizes and very friendly store owners.  I definitely encourage anyone in range of Chicago to come out to their next one.

This tournament was pretty awesome.  I won all three of my oath mirror matches.  My top4 mirror was absolutely epic.  Congrats to Jimmy for taking down the one game finals.

Kurt Maske – Billy D (yes, this is actually what he titled his deck!)

Twan used this name when we were riding back to his place and I told Kurt if your playing ichorid then you just gotta call it billy d. I had a great time at this event even though I hadn't slept in a day. The store owners are to nice. The place is well kept and is just a great overall environment. The one thing though is seating's. I know theirs another tournament next month and if theirs enough table space I think you should spread it out. I'm a big guy and it's not easy for me to get into a tight ass spot I don't mind doing it though.

We wanted to thank everyone who attended this month's vintage tournament at Xtreme Games!  I would post pics but I don't know how yet : (    They will be on facebook under shannon homan if you want to look. Or if someone wants to tag them and post thats fine too : )
Our next event most likely will be the 3rd Sunday of March, we will try to run all our Vintage tournaments on the 3rd Sunday of every month unless it conflicts with some big event.  We will post the exact date and time next week, hope to see everybody next month!
Thanks again,
Shannon and Eric

Next time could you please type up the decklists, then email it to someone who could then run it through the famous GWS word filter.

Nobody on Sunday!  Well, I brought it in against SS, but that was mostly because he can block Cutpurse.

I played against 5c Shop Dudes, 5color Fish, Goblins, Dredge, SS, and a game against Oath.  Archmage is for the other real blue decks (Tezz, Slaver, TPS).

God my deck looks like a noob pile compared to everything in top8.  Lets say my top8 lasted 5 minutes not because i am that bad just my deck just went to hell.  I had an ok first hand and it just went to crap.  Game 2 i mull to 5 get the hand teaser and just draw crap.  Whats funnier is idk if i could of made a real match out of it seeing that was my first match against oath ever lol.

I also agree with jimmy it was one strange meta.  Oath everywhere and like 3 dredge not much tezz but like 3 welder non painter decks me danny and dave king.  Just one hell of an odd day and i am just happy to live to make top 8

haha yeah i was halfway rushing putting the deck together after me and isaac got there. noticed it was 5 after and i still didn't finish my proxies, sigh. I can't believe i forgot unmask lol, and wasn't fully sure of all the cards i shoulda put in sideboard so i ended up throwing in 3 oxidizes which i had laying close by and the nearest basic land lol. Was a fun time though i ended up playing against two oath decks lol yes there were lots of em.

by the way in "Billy D" the D stands for Dredgerton

I've always referred to Billy D as a shortened name for Billy Dredgington II, which is short for Lord Billiam Q. Dredgington II Esquire.

Congrats on the performance Jimmy.

I'm wondering why damien's SS deck is running two dsc in the board but no tinker to be seen. Is it to help out the painter match as a sorta blessing replacement or is there something i'm not seeing?

That would be it.  He noticed that TK, Owen, and Ben were all playing Painter so he put two DSC in the board, planning to just draw the game if they tried to Grind him out.

Steve, this is all outlined in Isaac's tournament report:  http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=37434.0

After the Pittsburgh tournament, Isaac ate with us at Primanti Bros., got Paul to write the list on a napkin, then monster-trucked it through Ohio and a blizzard to Chicago before playing the tournament on no sleep.  It's a truly remarkable adventure!
