Heya,

Once again WotC is asking players what their favorite format is.  Here's the link: http://www.wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtg/daily/ld/31

Support your favorite format and let them know just how popular Vintage really is.  The last time this was asked, Vintage came in second.  I hope it can at least repeat that feat again.

Peace,

-Troy

You know, I think I must have accessed tomorrow's articles today.  I wondered why Latest Developments was live on Thursday and talked about "Mana Fixing Week" being over.  Strange.  Incidently, the winner of last week's poll was 2 colors at around 38%, though 5 color got over 10% if I remember right and if anyone cares. Smile

Let's see if the link works tomorrow.  That's really strange.

Peace,

-Troy

Didn't you ever think about what happens if you just fly west in an airplane. You can go back in time forever.....

Troy, did you discover a time machine?

LOL, I don't know.  The article wasn't that good anyway, IMO.  It really just built on MaRo's article from Monday and talked about 3 other ways of mana fixing.  I got bored after the third paragraph and scrolled down to vote.  Their polls can sometimes telegraph where they're going with design, so I always try to check them out.  I wish now that I had jotted down a few more things about the article.  I would be kinda neat to spoil it a day ahead.

So it worked for you too?  Cool!

They don't release the results intil a week later.  A lot of voting goes on over the weekend, especially for Asians and Europeans, so they want to give folks the greatest amount of time possible to vote.  RnD really does pay attention to what these polls say.

Thanx Troy, I haven't been to the site as much since the change.  Good look'n out, I would have missed this.

Polls are a marketing tool, so yes, we should all vote to voice the direction we would like to see.

Ouch!

Vintage only received 8.6% of the total votes coming in 2nd-to-last in front of "Other" by less than 300 votes. Legacy squeaked out 2nd behind Standard.

Tom LaPille's article had a nice explanation reguarding last June's B&R changes. Here's the link.

I guess on the one hand I'm not surprised where Vintage ended up. On the other hand, I am sort of surprised that there were some six hundred people who voted for Vintage who probably have nothing to do with this site. I guess that's a good sign, especially considering only 3500 voted for Standard.

Very sad to see Vintage so far down... Sad

But I think it does show a huge Legacy bounce only a few weeks after the GP. Imagine what a Vintage GP would do for the format!

Although I appreciate that Wizards do support one Eternal format well, it does sort of worry me that maybe they will completely cut Vintage adrift at some point. The new From The Vaults seems like another really big Legacy push.. perhaps leaving Vintage definitively in the dust... :/

Does anyone have the link to last year's poll results?  I was curious what the total votes count looked like.  It seemed like total polling numbers were down overall.

Still it is sad to see Vintage so low.  I guess I'm not surprised, though.

Edit: Found last year's results - http://wizards.com/Magic/Magazine/Article.aspx?x=mtgcom/daily/dl43

Code:
Standard                  3629   31.0%
Vintage                   3105   26.6%
Legacy                    1613   13.8%
Extended                  1415   12.1%
Block Constructed         1205   10.3%
Something else             724    6.2%
Total                    11691  100.0%

Not as big a difference in voter turnout as I expected (about 2,500, perhaps because of their site redesign, which is still poop).  The biggest difference probably came from the addition of the "I don't worry about formats" option.  If I were a kitchen table gamer and didn't worry about formats, playing most cards freely, Vintage might look like the closest option to me, especially if I had ever Channel'd out a Darksteel Colossus on turn three or something like that.  Vintage as we know it probably was never the actual second most popular format.  If you add this year's "Vintage" total to "I don't worry about formats," we're in a solid (though inaccurate) second place.

So, as I said before, EDH is more popular than Vintage.  Where's our EDH box set?

They're both dominated by one deck (please don't get into semantics about my verb choice), and Limited is my favorite. But I chose Vintage to try to help it out.

thats a shame for vintage Sad

Though I don't think a single Vintage player I know in real life would ever check the WOTC site. If I hadn't seen this thread, I wouldn't have voted either. Its not really a fair poll in my opinion.

Yes,Tarmogoyf is probably better than Chameleon Colossus, but comparing it to Tarmogoyf is like comparing your girlfriend to Carmen Electra - one's versatile and reliable, the other's just big and cheap.(And you'd run both if you could get away with)

I'm pretty sure that they realize that the site does have a heavy kitchen-table bias.

MAGIC has a heavy kitchen-table bias.  The vast majority of all players have never played in a sanctioned (or proxy, for that matter) tournament.  I think the numbers quoted by MTG.com were 90-10.
