Here's a quick report about ELD's Monday Night Vintage. I ended up in 2nd place out of 17 people. And just to be clear, the event has no top 4 or top 8, just after the Swiss prizes are awarded to the top 4.
Deck Choice - I have played a variety of decks recently, and have been pretty happy playing Uba Stax. My recent luck or lack thereof at ELD's Mox event however drove me to try something else. So, I sleeved up ELD's Tezz list to test against. I tried it against a homebrew Grow list, tried it against Mono Red aggro stax with and without Null Rod, and against UGW Fish. At best, I was 50/50 with any of those decks, worse in most cases. So, seeing the writing on the wall, I joined the darkside and played a drain deck with key/vault.

Round 1 - vs. Rich Shay with Thoughtcast Tezzeret Game 1 - First turn I drop a few Moxes, fetch out a Volcanic, and attempt to cast Gorilla Shaman, knowing it's good against a majority of his deck. Rich attempts to FoW, but I FoW back and it resolves. Rich chuckles, draws a card, and says go. This continues for a few turns with me bashing with Shaman, playing land, and sitting on my end. A few turns later, Rich concedes after showing me his hand of Seat of Synod x2, a few moxes, Lotus, and a single Thirst. Go go Gorilla Shaman! Game 2 - Another decent start for me with a Gorilla Shaman, but he has the removal for it, and ends up winning with the Key/Vault combo played without counter backup, my hand was all land at the time, and my top 3 cards were also land (I had Top in play). Game 3 - It's a back and forth game before he lands Mindslaver (!), which I ET at end of turn. On my turn I draw a blank, and he replays Slaver, but does not activate. I play vault, search for key with Trinket mage, and start to take turns. After 8 turns, Rich Slavers me and I do my best to ruin my hand. However, my 3rd card down is artifact destruction, and he blows up my vault. With him at 4, he has 2 turns to get out of it, but draws blanks.
Round 2 - vs. Demonic Attorney with Tezzeret Game 1 - It's a decent game, but he ends up dropping Tezzeret and searches up vault. On my turn I'm one mana short of being able to tinker for vault, use Trinket to get key and activate. I need a land or mox on top, but have no luck. Game 2 - I get a Tezz down, but he draws a ton of cards, which ends up with DT into REB.
Round 3 - vs. Micah with Bomberman Game 1 - It's a case of Oops I win, as Tezz is good at, as I luck into Vault with key in my opening hand. Game 2 - I end up short on land, but with enough counter backup to stall a few turns. I finally draw a fetchland, and start playing the four Thoughsiezes in my hand. He ends up with only Darksteel in hand, and I win with Trinket Mage. ELD who was sitting next to me, points out I should've won faster by playing Tezz with REB backup.
Round 4 - vs. Bill with Bill's Homebrew (includes Key/Vault, Tezz, Erayo, Bob) Game 1 - Tezzeret with counter backup off an early Lotus, protected by a Thoughtsieze the turn before. Game 2 - Magus of the Unseen prevents me from playing out key/vault long enough for Bill to smash me with his army of wizards and artifacts. I did get to remove his Vault with Relic which was fun. Game 3 - I lock Bill out early with Key/Vault. I had one combo piece in hand and was able to Demonic for the other when he was tapped out.
Round 5 - vs. Scott with Mono R Workshop Aggro Game 1 - Scott strips my early land, but since I won the die roll I have a few artifacts in play, so his Thorn isn't hurting me that much. I eventually get the needed blue land, and tinker out Darksteel for the win. Game 2 - Scott dumps his hand on the table, and I never draw the requisite land or sideboard cards to do anything. Game 3 - I keep a hand I am very happy with, and tinker out Darksteel on the 2nd or 3rd turn. Scott plays out a Welder, happy to have an answer. However, on my turn I play Time Walk, and ET his welder. Scott manages to get out Jar on his turn and activates, but can't find an out.
I end up in 2nd place with a 4-1 record, and win $45 in store credit.
