Hey NYC Vintage Community!

So, I have talked to the folks at Jim Hanley's Universe and they are interested in giving me the space to host some Vintage events this summer.

So here's the deal. I could attend/run an event this coming SUNDAY at around 11 or 12 in the morning but we'd need to finish up by 5 at the absolute latest as I have a rehearsal to attend for a show I'm doing.

Given 8-24 people I think 4 rounds + a cut to top 4 should be appropriate. However, if we have less than 8 we might need to re-organize the structure a bit so it is important for me to get a head count ASAP in order to determine how best to announce the tourament.

In general (unless this grows out of hand in popularity and numbers) I think I'd like to keep these touramemts under 5 hours so a strict 50 minute rounds rule will be applied.

So as of now here's what I have for you as a proposal:

When?

Sunday, May 17, 2009
Begins promptly at 11:30 am but meet at 11:00 to register + make/receive proxies + pay entry + meet and greet.

Where?
Jim Hanley's Universe
4 W33rd st., between 5/6 avenue
New York, NY

(short walk from Penn station and right next to Herald Square)

Tournament Format
Unsanctioned Vintage (Type 1) with up to 15 proxies permitted (must be on a card and with Sharpie so it won't run or add thickness. All cards must also be in sleeves)
Entry Fee: $10
4 rounds of Swiss/ cut to top 4
Prizes (based entirely on attendance)
With 10 people the prize structure would look like this:
1rst - $55
2nd - $25
3rd/4th - $10 each

I'm not sure if the store will ask for a cut of the money (they shouldn't if it is unsanctioned right? Especially for the first even I'd think) but I fully intend to have 100% of the buy-in go towards the prize money.

I would also post this in the tournament announcement forum but I can't seem to find access to starting a thread there. Oh well, hopefully people read the Open Forum enough.

Also guys, it looks like I'm going to have a Saturdays completely off in coming weeks and Sundays until 5 so either day should work for future weeks.

So get back to me either on this thread or via PM by tomorrow if you are interested in something for this Sunday. Otherwise I'm gonna put off the inaugural event until next week. I'd also like to know what people are thinking they'll need in terms of proxies so I can try to sharpie up as many as possible before the event.

Ideas? Thoughts?

Like I said in the other thread, I can't go this coming weekend, but I would be a probable attendee for most any other future Sunday.

Great to see this happening.

Edit: Also, you should ask for tournament organizer status so you can post these in the tournament announcement forum. There's a thread around here somewhere for doing that.

I also can't make it this weekend but would definitely be interested in any future NYC events!

Moved from Vintage Open to Tournament Announcements.  In the future, put announcement threads here.

I would absolutely have done that if I had TO status but I don't yet despite my recent request. As soon as I'm upped to the TO status I'll be posting further announcements here.

So there wasn't enough response for a tournament today at 11:30 am so we will not be holding one, but, not to fear: I'd still love to get this started up next weekend (and I realize I was trying to get this first one together on such short notice).

Please, PLEASE PM me to tell me if you are interested in a Saturday or Sunday Slot for the proposed tournament. Saturday actually works better for me now as I should have the entire day off and could host a start time of anywhere from 11 am to 5 or 6 pm. Sunday at 11:30 am might be better though for the store as I'm not sure what they have going on Saturday night there already. In any case, Message me or respond to this post with your available times on either Saturday or Sunday and I'll see what I can do to accommodate!

Let's get this party started guys in NYC!

The reason we restrict access to the Tournament Announcement forum is to ensure that only people screened by the staff can post announcements.  That helps us avoid problems like this or this which arise from bad TO's.  If we're taking too long to promote you, the proper course of action is to PM one of us and ask us to act faster, not circumvent the system by posting announcements in other forums without TO status.

I'm available Saturday or Sunday this coming week. I would prefer a slightly earlier start (10 or 11) to make sure we have time to get through everything.

How many did you get today? Also, I wouldn't worry about not having an event today; the announcement was only about 2 days prior so people didn't really get a chance to know about it and/or plan to attend it.

So Yare's said when he could do it next week. Any other response on Saturday vs. Sunday and a time that works best?
