Magic: The Gathering Tournaments at ConnectiCon
In addition to the scheduled tournaments listed below, we will also be running sanctioned booster drafts all weekend long, when we have 8 players looking to draft.
A Prize Pool and Prize Allocation Chart will be available for review throughout the convention, for each event. Prize Support for most events* will consist of:
2 booster packs per player for sanctioned (8 or more players) booster drafts with a $15 or higher entry fee 5 booster packs per player for sanctioned (8 or more players) sealed deck events with a $30 or higher entry fee 36 booster packs per 8 players for sanctioned (8 or more players) constructed events with a $10 or higher entry fee
*Some events will provide out of print prize support that is worth significantly more than a booster pack, for example, the Revised Sealed Event has an entry fee of $125, each player will receive one Revised Starter Deck (60 cards) and two Revised Booster packs (15 cards each) with which to build a minimum 40-card deck, this event will be limited to 8 players and will have a prize pool of 16 Revised Booster Packs.

There seems to be some confusion about how TMD handles tournament announcements lately. Let me make it as clear as possible:
You need to apply for Tournament Organizer status to post event announcements on this site. That is because we filter known bad TO's to prevent people from wasting their time or money on sketchy events. If you want to post a tournament announcement, apply for TO status in the TO thread in Vintage Open. The way to go about things is not to just post announcements in other forums and ignore the structure we have.

Yes, all the events will be sanctioned events (at least that is the plan for now).
Our dates for ConnectiCon 2009 were booked in June 2008, well before any announcement was made about GP: Boston. We did not intentially schedule our event to coincide with other MTG events, ConnectiCon is multi-genre convention and is entering its 7th year, and had over 6,000 attendees last year.
We've been planning to expand our Magic: The Gathering tournament events for the past three years, and have done so each year offering more constructed, and draft play. Because people need to purchase a membership to attend the convention, we offer a free tournament each year on Sunday with a big prize, last year we gave away an EX condition Unlimited Mox Jet for the tournament, this year we're going:
1st: Sealed Beta Booster Pack 2nd: Sealer Arabian Nights Booster Pack 3rd: Antiquities Booster Pack 4th: Antiquities Booster Pack
If attendance for MTG events continues to grow, we'll likely offer something more fun next year for the free event, right now we're pondering a full playset of Revised Dual Lands.
We run Standard and Draft events at our monthly Member events which are the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10am until 10pm (sometimes later if a tournament runs longer - video games, screening rooms and RPG's are shut down at 10pm though)in Newington, CT.
Any questions please feel free to ask, and I'll do my best to answer your questions.

Can't wait for everyone to find out that Revised Sealed is actually a really shitty format.
It isn't so bad... some of the most fun I had, when I first started playing was playing sealed deck with my friends... we were awful though, and just put all the cards we got and played the starter as is... it was probably 3 months later we found some rules on how to really play sealed deck... April-June 1994 was good times!

I doubt you will get many people at all for Vintage if they are sanctioned. I can't imagine people playing non-powered decks, it doesn't seem that many people in the Northeast actually own any power or play with it.

I know my friends and I would make the trek out there since we are in Connecticut for a vintage tourney...(we would play in other events, just allure of a vintage tournament would get us out there).

After quite a bit of discussion, we're going to allow the following quantity of proxies for Vintage and Legacy events at ConnectiCon 2009 (we will still hold ONE sanctioned event for Vintage and Legacy during the weekend, if enough players want to play in one, but it won't be one of the vintage or legacy tournaments on the schedule).
Vintage 15 Proxies TOTAL Legacy 5 Proxies TOTAL
Hopefully, this will make a few folks happy.

It looks like the proxy vintage event is at 10am on Friday.
We also plan to have side tournaments/events sign-ups throughout the weekend, using a wait-list type system until the event is full (8 or 16 players swiss), for events that may take longer to fill we'll collect contact info, so if you're not around we can reach you.

A question about this, does the Vintage 15 proxies apply to the EDH-Vintage portion on Saturday, as well as the Swiss on Friday? This would greatly improve my chances of making a complete deck by Saturday, and thus I could bring at least 3-4 heads. Thank you. And sorry for necroposting.

4:15pm - up to 32 teams - Swiss: 2HG Vintage - Entry Fee $20
Crazy!! This might be a 2HG question in general... but can decks dupe up on restricted cards and 4 ofs? Like can both decks each run Black Lotus x1 or do you only get 1 Lotus for your team. Also for can both decks run a playset of Force of Will (so there would be 8 forces between the two decks)? Or does the combination of the two decks have to be vintage legal as well (meaning 1 lotus per team, 4 forces per team, etc)

8.5 Unified Deck Construction Rules Team Constructed tournaments use Unified Deck Construction rules: With the exception of cards with the Basic supertype or cards with text that specifies otherwise, a team’s combined decks may not contain more than four of any individual card, counted by its English card title. (For example, if one player is using four copies of Naturalize in a Multiplayer Constructed tournament, no other player on that team may have a Naturalize in his or her deck.) If a card is restricted in a particular format, no more than one of that card may be used by the team. No players may use cards that are banned in a particular format.

After much deliberation amongst our staff, we devised a new prize support system other than - you get packs for winning. Instead, you get a TIX, a TIX has an intrinsic value of one normal retail priced booster pack ($4). With TIX you will then be able to choose what prizes you want based on their TIX value, some prizes will have a higher value than others, you will also be able to use TIX to enter tournaments instead of paying cash, so if you are really good, you might be able to pay for one tournament and play all the rest for free.
The Revised Sealed Deck as an example has a prize pool of 5 TIX (if I remember correctly, I don't have the prize chart with me - it might be 8 TIX/player) per player, with a cap of 8 players, and having a full event, prizes would be awarded as: @ 5 TIX/player: 1st = 20 TIX, 2nd = 12 TIX, 3rd = 6 TIX, 4th = 2 TIX. @ 8 TIX/player: 1st = 32 TIX, 2nd = 18 TIX, 3rd = 12 TIX, 4th = 8 TIX.
TIX are awarded to the top 50% of players in all events. If I remember correctly, a booster pack of revised will "cost" 5 TIX, so the person who wins the Revised Sealed Deck will get a revised starter, 2 boosters to play with and then either 4 or 6 more booster packs of revised, depending on the prize payouts. You can save up your TIX throughout the weekend to get one of the really big prizes.
Constructed events award 3 TIX/player, Draft Events award 2 TIX/player, 2 HG events award 6 TIX/team.
Sunday morning there is a free standard constructed event for registered members of the convention, first place is a Beta Booster + TIX, 2nd is a Arabian Booster + TIX, 3rd is an Antiquities Booster + TIX, 4th is a Revised Booster + TIX.
