Our group has doubts about the interaction (or lack of) between Tendrils of Agony cast on a Tezzeret.

- Is Tezzeret a legal target for Tendrils as it's considered a player?
- If so, does Tendrils' loss of life make Tezzeret loose loyalty counters?

Thanks in advance!

Tezzeret is not a player. Tezzeret is a planeswalker. As such, he is not a legal target for Tendrils of Agony.

If there is confusion, realize that when you normally would direct damage from a spell "at" the planeswalker, you're actually applying a redirection replacement effect.

212.9g If noncombat damage would be dealt to a player by a source controlled by an opponent, that opponent may have that source deal that damage to a planeswalker the first player controls instead. This is a redirection effect (see rule 419.6c) and is subject to the normal rules for ordering replacement effects (see rule 419.9). The opponent chooses whether to redirect the damage as the redirection effect is applied.

A planeswalker isn't a legal target for spells that target players, as it is not a player... it just plays one on TV sometimes.

And just to complete the explanation...

Remember that Tendrils of Agony causes loss of life, not damage (which also causes loss of life), and hence there's no damage to redirect either.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.
