The missing cards in my sideboard (Walt) is 2 Pyroblast. Kind of easy to miss them, as I placed them next to pyroclasm on the deck sheet. I'll get Sean to clue us in on his missing card sometime tomorrow.

meh. AU is okay at best. It's a little small for 52 players, and it's always hot as hell in the playing area

Joe, you must be on crack.  I mean Alternate Universes Blue Bell is small compared to say A GRAND PRIX, but it's definitely a great venue and large in terms of a store.  Thanks for a good event Mike.  I don't know what I'm going to play, but it most likely won't have workshops or rituals, since I'm getting tired of the squishing sound my head makes when I continually bash it against a brick wall all day (what my last 0-2-1 result felt like).

On another note, I don't like how the Game Core con event counted towards player of the year standings.  With such short notice some people who are in contention couldn't make it, and if i were competing for something like that then I'd want to play in every event possible.

I wholeheartedly agree with Nick on this one.  i dont think that there was enough notice given for everyone to get time off for the Game Core event, and that cost certain teams and players their positions in standings.  I know that it cost my team personally as our 3rd team memeber couldn't make it on such short notice and we didnt even have a chance to keep up.

Look I understand that you are playing for Dan, but there have been plenty of events that Team DP has been represented by 1-2 members, generally Matt and Evan(I understand you don't have the benefit of an alternate). Its likely to seem that I'm ok with it because of our performance, but believe me that I would feel the same if TRA was able to pull ahead of us this event. Also the only other person who seemed to be affected by this event was Nick Detweiler, who likely wouldn't have been able to reschedule his family commitments and should be a non-issue anyway.

While that is valid, that isnt the underlying point. The issue we here is by counting points from the day towards the player of the year/team awards, it basically force anyone who cares about those to show up or risk being knocked out of contention. The reason we are taking issue is it is setting the precident of forcing your regular players to attend or risk losing out on something you are otherwise working towards. Believe me if it were not for the fact that poty/team points were being earned at this event i would not have attended, i did have other things i could have done that day but felt like if i was being forced into a cornor and basically making attendance mandatory at a none blue bell event. Just my 2 cents.

I'm pretty sure the reason for offering up the champion's prize is a direct move to increase attendance at all of Mike's events. Its a bold and very successful marketing tactic. I don't know what else could be gained from offering this type of title/prize. If the result is to "force" people to show up than his tactic has succeeded. I'm sure we don't need to rehash the "Mike does this to make a profit" arguments, so if there's something else about the system that bothers you, I'm sure Mike would be reasonable to refine the structure.

For example, under the current system, I can win the Main event at one of Mike's events, and still not have the highest point total at the end of the day. This happens when a player fails to make the T8 of the main event, going like 4-2 or so, and then they play and win the side event. Currently it is my understanding that both of these events carry the +5/+10 for T8/Win bonus. I don't feel that this should be the case simply due to the nature of the tournament being much more casual and generally smaller(read: easier). There are other kinks in Mike's system, but he does a decent enough job that I gladly show up for any of his events.

Also these championship seasons can be used to easily track one's performances from year to year. Not to insult anyone who finds that extremely obvious, but few people might not look at it as little more than some numbers next to their name. By simply keeping log of where you finish each year than you can judge how you/others are doing from a year-to-year standpoint. In essence they're some form of replacement for DCI ratings considering we play an unsanctioned format. Is it perfect? No. Is it workable? Of course. Another thing I'd like to see is if Mike is able to Archive the end-of-year results for easy reference, so that everyone has access to this information at all time.

Besides, if you guys really cared about this event counting towards the Championship/Team totals you probably should have said something about it before the event actually happened. I don't personally view it this way, but it would be easy for one to think you're trying erase what happened to be a bad weekend for yourselves.

This is getting rather long and talking about it here further probably wont get much through. If you guys wanna talk privately about the issue feel free to PM or IM me (Screenname is the same for AIM).

I just will say this and be done with this topic. I did talk to mike about it . He gave me the salesmen pitch and I do fully understand. Mike even said we could have a second alt. The issue with that was...A. WE could not find someone who was going to the event that was not already on a team. B. As a team we felt that it was shitty to have that alt only count for one event. I do feel that Mike has a right to gain attendeance and make money.

In the end I know now that we most likely will not regain our lead for team of the year, which we had for 95% of the year. I will credit this loss to a "bonus" event.  My only grip is that Mike did not give e'nuff notice, and at the begining of the year never said that "bonus" events would count for a IN HOUSE points system. I just hope that when Mike hands out the trophy to that lucky player and team It reads.......

Blue bell and "bonus" event player/team of the year!

Pleas dont take this to heart I have nothing against any of you guys at all !
 .........later till then, Grim.

For whatever its worth, I'm not sure you guys had the lead going into this "bonus" event... Mike didn't credit any of my points from the June event in the last update.

I understand what you guys are playing for, so this puts everyone in a somewhat awkward spot.  I will say that I missed an event earlier this year and haven't played in a single side event at any of Mike's tournaments... all my points are from the main events.  I'm really not going out of my way to try and 'steal' this thing from you guys.  I think what you're trying to do is very honorable and I know that regardless of the outcome, both the community and Dan recognize how much this means to you guys and how much work you were willing to put into it, even without having an alternate all year.

I talked to mike at the last bb .Your points were added to teams just not your single record for player of the year. As of that last bb i think you guys were up buy a very small gap. all in all Id never say you stole anything. I just think Mike should of not counted points in a non bb setting . All in all whats done is done . I love the story of the underdog. So when we rock the hell outta the next 2 events, and become team of the year it will be a steller fucking moment!!!!!!! So with all due respect, your the deathstar and we are the rebel alliance. BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know that the only reason i went to this event was because the points counted. If it wasn't for that i deffinatly wouldn't have showed up. If we didnt want the points to count for this even it should have been settled with mike before the event... not after people didn't show up. It's kinda beat to take the points away from the people who made it a point to clear there schedules to compete in the race. I know if the vintage rating system wasn't involved I wouldn't have made it a priority to go, and probably wouldn't have. I agree, this event shouldnt have counted towards the player of the year race or team event. When i found out about it i wasnt exactly thrilled but i didnt hear anyone else complaining (not even nick detwiler who immediatly said he couldnt make it). So why is it a big deal now, almost a week after the event?

PS- who won the contest?
