I'll be there, I guess, if I can recover from the ass-whupping I got last weekend.

Anyway, have you ever considered offering a prize for the person who ends up doing the best with no proxies?

Tell you what - I'll give away a free Force of Will to the best-performing player with no proxies at this event if you'll give away a similar prize at the next one.  Deal?

This is a good idea that others have done. Although this is generous of you Matt, I would rather have the potential money being put into this prize being put into the prizes for top 8 instead. The prizes last weekend were good with the Volcs for 5-8 but there have been times where 5-8 have gotten nothing or draft packs.

I look forward to having fun at this event.  Is there a possibility of holding a 250 event during the day as well (say, starting when the Vintage swiss is over)?

I like awarding players who own cards at least somewhat. Partially because i own them, but also because who the fuck cares if you win a Time Walk or Lotus when you could just proxy it? at least this is some incentive

I liked the idea so much that I gave away a Mana Crypt at my last event and will be giving out prizes in the future to top finishing deck sans proxies.

I'd like to see other TO's do it as well, but it's not quite an onus on you, Matt, to do this.

Admittedly that's correct, just like there's no need for me to discuss local tournaments on SCG, but I'm happy to do that too - the continued success of this format means a lot to me.  I was lucky enough to win a Force of Will at your event and I already own 4, and I'd be happy to see Mike start giving out a prize like this in the future because I think it helps attendance and promotes ownership of Vintage staples.  Nothing wrong with that, right?  Very Happy

You're absolutely correct on multiple accounts.

I think that having prizes for top finishers without proxies is a nice bonus to an event.  I won a foil Japanese Thoughtseize like that and I absolutely loved it.  I think that there is definitely some push for players to acquire the cards (because they want to own them) but that there is also a push for players if the added prize structure is significant enough.  I think that the prize would eventually have to become more significant to serve as a true push for players.  I would absolutely be willing to consider offering a Drain or other 100 dollar-ish card if I had attendance around the 40-45 level for future N.Y.S.E. events.

Secondly, I really appreciate you mentioning the N.Y.S.E. events on Star City.  It helps me, as a T/O, but it also helps everyone else - as I can offer better prizes when more players show.  I think that the Lotus tournament is going to be a big success, but that isn't necessarily any testament to my efforts.  The community is really coming together and it's a wonderful thing to witness.

Your offering up a Force as an additional prize would certainly help Mike, but it's an awesome gesture and helps the community in its own right.

Not that I'm going to let her scribble on my cards anyway, but what cards did she model for?

Windwright Mage, Godtoucher, Gilt-Leaf Seer, Reins of the Vinesteed, Branching Bolt. Perhaps if you ask nice, she'll scribble on you!

Mykie Noble, are you saying that you're using company computers to access Magic sites?? Unheard of practice. Shame shame!

It's gotten to the point where I have to use IP addresses instead of URLs to go to the big ones.  Wizards.com is 69.8.198.251, didn't even have to look that up before I typed it.

No can do this, I'm afraid...going to Octoberfest and then on to Italy...  Better excuse than the "I have a bit of a fever and headache" I dug up to miss the convention 2 weeks ago, anyway.

Mike I'll be there almost definitely.  I think Craig is gonna play as well, but I'm not totally sure.  This hopefully won't be like that time we pre registered for like every event and decided to just buy pizza all day instead.  See everlybody in a week I presume.
