Because envelopp is less flexible than Spell pierce. Spell pierce can hit anything but a confidant/welder/Gorilla Shaman/Tarmogoyf/Qasali. That's why it's so good.

Oh yeah, my point was that Enveloped sucked.  I was comparing it to the hypothetical counter target black spell card mentioned.  Too narrow, not enough flexibility.  And Pierce will definitely see play.

I think its the best hard counter to come out since FoW, countering big cards for 1 mana is good.  Spell snares the only thing comparable but obviouslyu only mana cost 2cards.  I think I would deffenitely run it in Bug fish with FoW Daze and SS sprite.  Thats a prettty heavy counter package that doesnt eat yer deck away to run it. You counter that first ritual by storm, slow down tinker plays, fish/aggro has 2 keep dropping things even if they know you have a counter ETC.

1 Mana counters are just nuts.  Good times, I think it will see alot of play in all formats.

It goes in over Stifle in fish lists that formerly played that card. Excellent against all Drain strategies.

I think that the card is really good, but I don't think that it just goes in over stifle. Stifle strengthens the mana denial aspect, which in turn makes pierce better as well. not to mention randomly being good in corner cases.

this may be the last time you hear the boogie song.
