Well, I have already posted this on SCG, GameFAQS and Wizards to no avail but I guess it doesn't hurt to cross post this here in the hopes that the residents of TMD can be more helpful.

If you've been playing Magic since back in the day like I have, you probably remember when Wizards actually published a printed version of the Sideboard. It used to be the event coverage online consisted solely of the final standings; if you wanted the details, you had to read the magazine. As I am something of a Magic historian, I really loved reading the interviews and seeing the old deck lists. It really gave you an idea of how conventional wisdom changed over the years.

I used to have a decent sized collection of Sideboards, Inquests, and Duelists but my mother threw a lot of them out when I went away to college and now I am trying to rebuild. But good God, I am just now discovering that these things are impossible to find! I found 7 issues from 2001 on MileHighComics and that is about it. eBay has some issues of the Duelist and that is it. Does anyone know where I can find back issues of the Sideboard? I am thinking maybe a hole-in-the-wall used book store would be my best bet but a lot of them don't have online catalogues. Hours of Google searching have been next to fruitless.

Disclaimer: I am NOT trying to collect back issues for the "strategy," as one poster on SCG assumed.  I'm just really fascinated by the game's storied history, as nerdy as that may sound.

Does anyone know where I can find old copies of this magazine? Alternately, if you'd like to sell your personal collection, let me know.

Can't help you with the Sideboard but I have some old Inquests (1996-1997) if you're interested.

Is this the end of Zombie Shakespeare?

I have a few buried in my closet. Were there specific issues you were looking for (or already have that you no longer need)?

I already PM'd Zombie Shakespeare but for anyone else reading this who has Sideboards they're willing to trade, yeah, I have the ones with Tom Chanpheng (after Worlds '96) and Sigurd Eseland (after PNTY 2000) on the covers and don't need those.Wink

I'm sorry I don't have the issues or volume numbers at hand but you get the gist.

Don't know what issue it was, but I'm looking for the one with Trevor Blackwell on the cover, when he won the LA Pro tour in the 2000. This issue means alot to me if anyone has it, that would be great.

Hey, that was among the issues Zombie Shakespeare mailed me.  If it helps at all in your search, it was Number 29, Vol. 5, Issue 2, March 2000.

Good luck!

I just found out you can get InQuests from MileHighComics' website.  Wink

is there anyway you would want to sell it to me (if there is some way to work it out), or at least can you scan the cover and send it? I know it may sound strange, but the reason it means so much to me is because I started playing magic because of that issue. I had it once when I was little, but sadly, I lost it.

I'll have to think about it.  For the moment I am not really interested in selling since it's a recent acquisition and the charm of the thing has yet to wear off.  As far as scanning goes, it's a possibility.  If you wanted to PM me a mailing address we might work something out.

Also

@ Matt

I kinda forgot about this too, so it's no big deal really. Let me know when you want to do business.  Wink

I actually have every issue of The Duelist and TopDeck and have been considering for quite a while to cut these up with an Exact-O knife and scan the entire archive to be released anonymously on the Internet as a public service.  I figure it would take about a weekend's worth of work and access to a darn good scanner.

Anybody have a good idea about how to approach this?

Katzby

I would really love to acquire a copy of a particular Duellist Edition be it in actual or an electronic form which has the cover picture resembling a human-butterfly hybrid, if I am not mistaken the artwork was done by somebody by the name of Scott Kirschner (?). It is of a high nostalgic value for me since it has the article about The Deck and its creator.

Duelist 10, Volume 3, Issue 6, May 1996.  Wink  And yes, the cover art is by Scott Kirschner (good memory).

I just bought that issue on eBay one month ago and was actually thinking of uploading that page in particular since I'm a huge Weissman fan.  But I have to buy a scanner first!  I tried taking a pic of the article for you with my crappy cell phone camera but it didn't turn out so hot.

I was talking to Campee the other day on IRC and apparently he used to play Weissman back in 1994 in local tournaments.  Zak Dolan was also active in those same tournaments and was apparently a total dickhead.  Smile

Thank you anyway for the effort, Mr. Fantastic!  Very Happy

It sure brings back nice, good old memories, be able to read again those old stuffs  Smile

I am going to respond to Campee 's inquiry regarding a bit story of Brian's deck and Keeper, I shall do it as soon as I have enough time.

The Duelist has been out of print for ages.   I don't think anyone will care :p.   Who will file an injunction?  No one.

Wizards owned it, so I'd imagine their lawyers would come down pretty hard, just like they come down on everyone else.

I don't think it would be too hard to upload everything anonymously to a blog registered under an assumed name, using an email registered under an alias, from an undisclosed location or proxy IP.

Not that I'm advocating anyone break the law of course...

I don't, for a host of reasons even beyond those I already mentioned.
