Just thought I'd post my latest attempt at a relatively inexpensive Vintage Deck. Of course the important part with this deck when playing it in a fully powered metagame is to get down Null Rod and Pithing Needle (naming Vault/Key) as soon as possible and hope the other guy doesn't have bounce with Force backup.

Artifact:6
3 Null Rod
3 Pithing Needle

Red:10
4 Simian Spirit Guide
4 Plated Geopede
3 Price of Progress

Green:11
4 Elvish Spirit Guide
4 Tarmogoyf
4 Lotus Cobra

Gold:3
3 Anathemancer

Black:8
4 Dark Confidant
4 Thoughtsieze

Land:20
4 Wooded Foothills
3 Verdant Catacombs
3 Bloodstained Mire
2 Taiga
2 Badlands
1 Bayou
1 Mountain
1 Swamp
1 Forest

The rest of the deck is based around the idea that you actually can have decent Acceleration without power. SSG and ESG combined with Lotus Cobra Make it entirely possible to empty your hand quickly without worrying about Null Rod. Anathemancer and POP just strike me as the best deal you can get right now for the mana against decks packing a full set of dual lands. Geopede can deal 5 damage on turn two. That's right on par for Vintage in terms of cost/damage ratio. And Dark Confidant is just busted to begin with. A Land and Spirit Guide are all this deck really needs to make a decent creature or Thoughtsieze/Pithing Needle the other guy. That should at least buy you a couple of turns. The Sideboard would I guess try to deal with Oath, Dredge, and Storm...

Sideboard
3 Keeper of Malakir
4 Simplify
4 Relic of Progenitus
4 Duress

Hmm...Not sure I really have much that beats Storm...Oh, Well...

Chalice of the Void?? Mindbreak Trap??

8 Duress effects already sucks to play against as a TPS player - CoTV is also good (and asymetrical in your deck, since it doesn;t hit the spirit guides and you don't have moxen)

Menendian has already made extensive commentary on how much MBT sucks to play against as a Storm player.

Gatekeeper is too slow vs Oath - I'd go with Edict instead. You'll never get BBB up in time consistantly enough to stop Iona Oath given a tricolor manabase.

This deck feels like it wants some amount of REB in the board or the main.

Anathemancer seems... meh. Most decks can play some basics and function off them. Running TPS I can often run off only basics, and with Oath it was usually 1 Orchard and a couple of basics. price of Progress is fine given the 1R cost and the Null Rods, but Anathemancer seems like too many of these kind of effects.

Why Relic of Progenitus? If you're going to run a 4-off Ichorid hate in the board, especially given you have maindeck black, Leyline is the way to go. It's much harder for them to deal with, and it's good in Oath and TPS matches as well.

Why not 4 Null Rod?

Needle seems narrow for a maindeck choice. What would you name vs Fish, TPS or Oath? I'd rather have it in the board and Chalice Maindeck, which works with Null Rod to slow other decks down (Oath outright looses to a chalice at 2 unless they can find an answer for it).

Plated Geopede only swings for 5 if you have a Fetch - your list has 10 fetches so this shoudln't be a huge issue- but even Boros Bushwacker in Standard (running 12 fetches) misses an activation once in a while. I'd rather have Magus of the Moon - it doesn't shut off your spirit guides and you run lots of red anyways- the mountains are still non-basic so the PoP still work.

What would be good in the Anathemancer slot? Negator?

Pithing Needle is narrow but you can name Polluted Delta against TPS as they'll most likely run four of them. It is more effective than Fish's Wastelands and Stifles because a good player can play around it. Also, one card that shuts down four cards is a pretty good deal. Suddenly the TPS player only has 8 lands, 4 of them are basic lands so you'll have a pretty good chance of mana/colorscrewing him so bad that you buy lots of turns or even better; win the game. Combined with Null Rod that is.

Chalice is strong against TPS as well because Chalice at 0 and 1 are both annoying for a TPS pilot.
