I'm pretty new to the format and I'm looking for some advice on which decks are socially acceptable and which ones are borderline broken/not fun.  EDH seems like a format that should not be taken too seriously, yet whenever I play Uril on MWS I always run into some asshole that treats the game like he/she is in a PTQ.

Uril gets beaten by too many decks on 1 vs 1 play so I'm going to give it up.  What decks should I try and which decks should I avoid if I'm interested in more of a casual EDH deck?  I want something that's competitive but not "unfun" for the opposing player.  I’m primarily playing 1 vs 1 right now but I’d also like a deck that can be relatively competitive in multiplayer.

Speaking as one of the assholes who plays unfair decks (Wink), the cards that seem to piss people off the most are the ones that are good exclusively in duels rather than multiplayer.  I.e., land destruction, countermagic, Rofellos as a general, anything that has ever been banned/restricted (Yawgmoth's Will, Tutors, Tolarian Academy, etc.) and other cards that were at some point the basis for Tier 1 tournament decks (Survival/Recurring Nightmare, etc.)

One of the most "unfair" decks that I've encountered is based on Erayo, Soratami Ascendant.

I don't have any problem with it, mostly because my play group is 100% spikes, including me, but lots of other people complain about it.

I don't know anything about 1v1.

The most powerful/overused generals:
Kresh, the Bloodbraid
Sharuum the Hegemon
Arcum Daggson
Rofellos, Llanowar Emissary
Zur the Enchanter
Karn, Silver Golem

I guess I'll take the time to throw out the following: in duel games, I don't really have a problem with it but in multiplayer you probably aren't going to make a lot of friends with Jokulhaups, Apocalypse, Obliterate, and whatever other cards fall into that vein, if only because you are going to make the games take hours and hours longer.  Even duel decks (mostly with Doran as a general) that run 20 Wrath effects are quite annoying, in my experience.
