Ideas Unbound
Sorcery
Casting cost: UU
Oracle text: Draw three cards. Discard three cards at the beginning of the next end step.

Can this card be useful/viable in a 5c Stax Deck with a Goblin Welder on the battlefield?

Sometimes Stax has opening hands that have 1-3 City of Brass type lands, Goblin Welder and no real acceleration or threats.  Normally, we would mulligan these hands and hope for the best (Stax can mull with the best of them).

But if Ideas Unbound were in there, then a 1st turn Welder, 2nd turn Ideas Unbound might seem pretty awesome.  Especially if one had a fatty in hand.

Now, I realize that most Stax builds don't even run Thirst for Knowledge, and many play Bazaar of Baghdad as a 1 of (or more), but could Ideas Unbound be the "draw engine" that Stax has always wanted?

Has anybody tried this card in Stax?  Thoughts?

Pre-Edit: I have a Mindlock Orb deck built with 10 proxies (without taking anything away from my other two decks that are within 10 proxies), and this crappy deck needs all the help it can get.  Mindlock Orb seems like a bomb against sooooo many good decks, but sucks ass in multiples or against Swamps.dec etc.

I actually tried this card in Turboland back in 2006 and determined that I did not like it.  In Stax it seems that Bazaar and Careful Study are better.  Also along with Thirst there is always Compulsive Research as an option.

I would rather play Strategic Planning. I have a U/r Stax deck I have been toying around with also, and Mindlock Orb is always on the fence on the list. Strategic Planning is great because it gives you another relevant permanent to play along with filling up your graveyard.

The first thing that comes to mind is UR Uba.  How does this stack up to Bazaar of Baghdad though?  Draw 3, lose 4 sounds very similar to draw 2, lose 3.  One is repeatable and uncounterable, the other is not.

Any interest in putting together/maintaining a Github Git project that hosts proven decks of all major archetypes and documents their changes over time?

Strategic Planning is certainly not budget, but Careful Study is very similar to Ideas Unbound.  In theory, one can play the cards from Ideas Unbound (Moxen, and Land drop, welder, mox monkey, etc) and potentially weld in any leftover goodies in hand.  Still pondering.  Thanks for input so far.

In stax, the UU cost will be the main issue. But the effect is better than strategic planning IMHO, because you choose the discarded cards from your whole hands.
