Does Wizards of the Coast ever really publish trending or popularity.  I know Vintage is well liked here, but based on my ebay T1 card sales, I think the resurgence we had a few years ago might have been a popularity peak (Tog era) for Vintage, but I'm more curious about the state of Magic overall. I've been off the Magic grid for years, but curious if there are any stats or references to its mass popularity in terms of online play or Standard, etc.

More players?  More sales? Anyone have a 15 year chart of popularity?

Zendikar broke every sales record, and was the highest selling set of alll time, not close.  Magic prereleases also generated record numbers of attendance.  GP record was also broke this year by more than  15% in Madrid.   Magic is by far more popular than ever.

Magic is so popular that cards printed even 3 years ago have reached absurd prices.  For example, Tarmogoyf is now $80.

I believe this, but can you site numbers? (Zen vs Alara or Mirroden or Saga?)

Wow, I had no idea.  I guess it's because Magic seemed to be much more in the mainstream media years ago (which I think was a bad thing:  Ie people could make fun of Magic players much more often, because everyone knew what they were making fun of).

Is all the growth global?  Or is it more popular in the states too?  I only ask because I don't seem to ever run across kids playing it anymore or references to it in popular culture.

Has the age demographic stayed the same?  Thanks!

No.  because wizards doesn't release that information; it's proprietary.

hasbro's financial statements are published record, the only problem would be if they are not reporting wizards seperately as a subunit.  You could just look for the statement dated 12/31/XX where XX is the year of the set release in question.

Magic sales and player counts are through the roof.  Legacy and Standard are thriving.  Wizards doesn't publicize numbers, but they have mentioned several times how well Magic is doing.
