Hello Vintage Players,

Instead of the regular crew (myself and Zieby),  Roel Jans will be organizing a Vintage tournament in Breda for this one time. The structure won't change; It will be a competitive event with a good atmosphere.

Location:
Gemeenschapshuis De Belcrum
Pastoor Pottersplein 12
4815 BC Breda
The Netherlands

Date&time
The tournament will be held on Sunday July 18th, the venue opens at 10.00h, registration closes at 11.00h

Pre-registration
In this topic
Send me an email: Roelke2004@gmail.com

Entrance Fee
€ 10,00

Format
The format will be unsanctioned vintage, the dci-rules will be enforced. The rules enforcement level is competitive. for this event, 10 proxies are allowed. See the rules for proxies at the bottom of this post

We will be playing some rounds off swiss, with a top8 play-off
With less then 17 people: 4 rounds of swiss
With 17 to 32 people: 5 rounds of swiss
With 33 to 64 people: 6 rounds of swiss

Prizes
Rudy Meyer (www.magicunited.nl) will be at the venue and we will sponsor some prizes. The prize structure will be announced asap.

Proxy Rules
There are Two types of acceptable proxies for use in this tournament.
(Other Method’s must be approved by the judge after reviewing them before the tournament starts)
1) The first and most basic method is taking a basic land card and writes all details on the card.
2) The second method is to take a card that shares some of the characteristics with the card that you want to proxy and erase any characteristics that do not match, replacing them with the correct characteristics (Cards can be erased with Acetone and a cotton ball).

All proxies must have the following text neatly printed, using a extra fine point sharpie. Ball point pens may not be used:
• The full name of the card (no abbreviations or nicknames)
• Correct casting cost of the card including all colored mana symbols
• All relevant/game effecting text (Oracle wording)

A short report with t8 lists (btw, why can't i start a new topic?)

Because the pro tour lands in Amsterdam in september I was allowed to organise an extra PTQ. I chose for Breda because the venue is really nice. A vintage tournament as a "side event" seemed like a good plan. 35 players agreed and travelled to Breda (one of them all the way from Darmstad, Germany) to play in the event.

@ Roel,

Thanks for hosting this event in a time I could not do it by myself due to the birth of my baby.

The events for after the summer are in the planning and I hope we can have as much fun during those.

Nice to see that much storm in the top 8.

Congratz to Steffen, he did it again with ANT, although he dislikes the deck.

Did the ANT player have to face shops at any point in the day?

Preordain makes up a lot.  Wink

(congratz on becoming a dad by the way Very Happy)

Only once this tournament.

Overall I havent lost a match yet against stax/mud with ANT, although I must say I neither lost the die rolls in those matchups, I do render it as a bad matchup thought, but being able to bring in 12 cards makes a lot of difference as well.

That's quite the transformational board.

Nice deck. Might be what I'm looking for. Congrats on the win!

Did the ANT player have to face shops at any point in the day?

I faced Steffen with his ANT monster in top 8. You can read it in my report (see above for a link).

In short
He won the die roll and won on turn 2 after Chain of Vapor on my Sphere of Resistance.
I won game 2 thanks to a lot of Spheres.
He won game 3 because he caught me completely off guard with the Oath transformational sideboard! I read about it but didn't expect it.

You can read the full story in my report.

@Steffen: did you like the Preordains? Would you keep them in a next version of ANT?
Congrats with the win. You even did the Dr.Evil grin when you hardcast your Sphinx of the Steel Wind after Being Sadistically Sacramented by your opponent...

Preordain is a keeper for sure, I would play at least 3 of them at all time in such a combo deck.

How did you feel about the Oath board? Did you miss having more slots available for other matchups, or did you find that the Oath plan was just what was needed against decks that the mainboard didn't trounce?

I notices you ran only 11 land. Do you feel this was the right number, or did you miss an extra land or two at any point?

How often was Pact useful and how often do you think it would have been better as Thoughtseize?

did you run 3 10drils specifically so that with the Robot you coudl dodge Cap effects, or was there another reason? In testing recently, I've found that 3 is too many in the maindeck as I always end up with extra that would better serve me as something else. What do you think of two?

Only against other storm decks without Force of Will (especially a mirror), did I want additional sideboard slots. (since pact of negation is basicly a dead card) Boarding orchards against oath is fun since it will most likely trump their "second best" godhand (the first one being lotus, key, vault) which is almost their only chance of winning this matchup.

The oathpackage was awesome against workshop, but only for one event I think. (the chance of having the element of suprise with it in future events has decreased somewhat)

I notices you ran only 11 land. Do you feel this was the right number, or did you miss an extra land or two at any point?

Yes i did miss out on land drops in one or 2 occations, my idea of playing so few lands was that Preordain almost counts as half a land/mana since it will most like find mana when you need it. (I can almost garantue you that no one will counter a preordain, unlike brainstorm)

How often was Pact useful and how often do you think it would have been better as Thoughtseize?

I didn't count, but my idea behind it was: thoughtseize/duress is best when you want to win turn 2/3, where pact of negation is better if you want to win turn 1/2. Very Happy Pact is obviously bad/weaker against shops, but I could board a lot in that matchup, so that counts for something as well.

Yes, my standard for any combo deck is that it must have at least 4 kill conditions after sideboarding in the shop and combo matchups. 3 Tendrill's main seems like the right number. (one tendrill's in the opening hand can easily be pitched to chrome mox, or make a turn 1 or 2 Ad Nauseum 95% lethal since you will "only" need to hit mana cards at that point. Sometimes you can randomly win turn 3/4 (with you opponent sitting on a pair of counters) using chain of vapor to create a nice storm count (not many players will counter a chain of vapor when you are holding 2 or more cards in your hand), sometimes even netting some mana in the process)
