It is looking like this this will be my first trip back to GenCon in nearly 7 years and I just wanted to gauge how many of the 'old guard' would be going also. It would be great to catch up with some of the old Meandeck, Short Bus, Canadian, or California guys from back in the day. Anyone making the trip?

Cash is deterring me, but it's not outside the realm of possibility I'm going.

At this point my plan is to mostly hit the dealers tables, artists room, and maybe loiter a bit around the vintage area to catch up with folks. I play a lot of D&D these days (and EDH) so its looking to be my first MTG-free GenCon.
Drop me a PM here or on FB if you want to try to catch up.

Shane, I'd definitely bring your EDH deck. A LOT of EDH players go to gencon.

I had to take too much vacation time while dealing with my defense. I don't have enough left to go to GenCon and handle the holidays.

Just a special note about this GenCon:
Did you know that this will be the fist GenCon World Champs since 2006 where we will pretty much know the top decks going in? It's the first time in four years that there hasn't been a major restriction or unrestriction just prior to the tournament. I find that fairly remarkable, actually.
Peace,

Things have changed for me, a bit, and I'm now considering making the trip. I was supposed to be in Cleveland from the 22nd through the 26th of July, but I will now be in Cleveland from July 29th through August 2nd. I'm considering staying with family, extending my trip for a few days, and then finding a way out to Indianapolis. Are any of the Cleveland guys going Greyhound to Indy, or does anyone have any recommendations regarding bus travel from Cleveland to Indy? It's still somewhat doubtful, as it relies on getting time off from work, but if I can make this happen, I would like to. Feel free to PM me.

Actually, anyone playing the format knew the top decks. 2007: GAT 2008: TPS, Drain Tendrils, Dredge, BUG Fish 2009: TEZZERET 2010: MUD

2010: DREDGE
There, fixed!!! Dredge is a machine that is picking up momentum and starting to roll everything over. It is like a virus that keep adapting to the antibiotics used to kill it - this virus just may have gotten out of control. Glad I won't be at Gencon when Dredge finally wins it.

Nobody smart plays dredge unless they have to. Gen con is the most dredge hating tournament of the year. Smemmen already said his whole team will have at least 8 pieces of dredge hate. Once dredge gets hated out I expect mud to have a good showing since it doesnt catch splash hate.

I hope everyone plays that non-NYSE MUD trash that everyone seems to love so much, mwahahahahahahahaha I like my chances this year.
PS I agree, Dredge is a poor choice for this event b/c A) it's non proxy so people expect dredge, and B) If it is anything like last year, its a Workshop convention and beating a field with that many Wastelands is trickier than normal, where you're pounding Drain decks repeatedly.

Please ship us your optimized list before Worlds. I won't be going, but I'll send a drone or two your way. Please let me know how many Jaces you're running in the main, as Jake has recommended 1, but I'm sure that 2 is the right call.

Probably the best thing to do is to just cut the bazaars and replace them straight up with jaces.

Max Brown. Why the hell wouldn't I want a full playset? That sounds awesome. You know, Jace draws THREE cards, while Bazaar only draws TWO. Except if you're that guy I played at the last Waterbury. Then Bazaar draws three. When my drone comes back with the painting, would you autograph it for me?

Yea they should just Errata bazaar to be tap: Draw 3 discard 2 or add 1 mana of any color, then maybe I would be willing to play it over Jace.
