Palindromate
 {2} {U} {U}
- Instant -
Create a copy of each target instant, sorcery or ability on the stack starting from the top.  You may choose new targets for the copies.
The last target has Split Second.
Never odd or even

Example:

Stack Pre-palindromate
-------------------------------
Incinerate (bear)   <-- Top of stack
Counterspell (bolt)
Lightning Bolt (bear)
Giant Growth (bear)
Result: Incinerate kills bear

Stack Post-palindromate
---------------------------------
Giant Growth (bear) <-- Top of stack
Lightning Bolt (dome)
Counterspell (Incinerate2)
Incinerate1 (dome)
Incinerate2 (bear)
Counterspell (bolt)
Lightning Bolt (bear)
Giant Growth w/Split Second (bear)
Result: 8/8 bear and 6 to the opp's dome

What does this actually do?  As best I can tell, it kinda gives all your spells split second.  Oh, and do abilities still resolve normally?

I think I wanna see this card get printed as is just so that someone plays it and then everyone stops playing Magic to sit around for hours arguing about what the hell it does.

I'm pretty sure this copies itself with the current wording.  It also copies creature spells; I don't think that's supported by the rules.

I'm having trouble imagining a scenario where this really does anything.  Like say I cast a draw spell, then you counter it, then I play this.  My draw spell gets copied, but so does your counter, so you just use the copy of your counter to counter my copy of the draw spell.  If I got to make and play all the copies (instead of the spell's controller), now THAT would be something.  I'd use the copy of your counter to stop the original counter, and double up on my draw spell.

I think it creates needlessly complicated stack issues.

To avoid it copying itself, I'd reword it to
"Exile Palindromate, then copy all instants or sorceries. You may choose new targets for the copies."

Also, why split second? Seems powerful enough even without it.

Good feedback.  I've changed the wording so that it can no longer copy creatures or any permanents.  Was thinking about using 'non-permanent spell or ability' but couldn't find that term used yet so didn't want to make up my own template.  I changed it to target the stuff on the stack so that it can no longer copy itself.

RE: Split Second.  You're right. I don't what ~this~ card to have Split Second, I want the card at the bottom of the stack to have split second so the entire stack resolves as one nice palindrome.  Fixed.

Palindromate should untap your lands for you when you cast it.

Also, this card is probably too complex for WotC to print, sad to say.

I would've thought the same, but Eye of the Storm is an absolute cluster.

...aaaand I just realized that Ravnica is five years old. Jeebus that makes me feel old.

I like it.  Just how Gather Specimens snags all creatures, this snags all the spells on the stack.  Is it undercosted at 4?

I think it depends on what the stack looks like.  It's pretty meh with one or two non-permanent spells but it does get exponentially better as the stack gets bigger.  Also, it's not very good in a pure counter war either.  If I were to make it  {3} {U} {U} I would be inclined to take Atog Lord's advice and have it untap some lands.
