I will give a short tournament report for myself.  My notes were piss poor at best since I wasn't feeling well most of the day.

Round 1 - B. Kegley (Oath)
Game 1: I mull to 6 and I suffer a classic Oath loss. A quick death I may add.
Game 2: I have a turn 1 Thron and a Chalice to 2.  My opponent manages to get an Energy Flux into play but my Metalworker laughs in its face.  My M. Factory takes this one to victory.
Game 3: Again it was Metalworker keeping me in the game as I was facing double E. Flux! (OUCH!)  I hade enough artifacts in my hand to keep the relevant sphere effecrs in play and my Factory was enough for the win.
1-0

Round 2 - C. Woods (White Workshop)
Game 1: After 2 or 3 turns where both of us were wasting and stripping each other's land, I ended up with better topdecks than he had.  I think I had a turn 4 Lodestone followed b a turn 5 and 6 Trike.  I really don't remember much as I was really not feeling well at the time.
Game 2: I have a turn 1 Metalworker which Conley kills with a Seal of Cleansing.  However I had some pretty sick turn 2-4 plays.  I think it was lodestone - lodestone - Sculpting Steel - Then scoop phase for Conley.
2-0

Round 3: J. Allison
This match was so onesided that I don't know what he was playing.
Game 1: I win on turn 3 after a turn 1 Lodestone followed by a turn 2 Lodestone AND 2sphere
Game 2: I play a turn 1 Metalworker and then puke my hand out on turn 2.  I think it was Lodestone - Sculpting Steel - 2sphere - 2sphere
3-0

After 3 rounds the 4 undefeateds were all part of Team Black Gold. Smile  We all I.D. the next two rounds to make the playoffs.

T8 - Adam Ramsay (TPS)
Adam and I always seem to play each other in the first round of playoffs.  This matchup is clearly in my favor and this result was no different.
Game 1: Adam plays an early Bob but ends up losing because of the revealed cards.
Game 2: Adam leads with Bob and has a good hand to support it.  I couldn't get anthing relevant into play because of timely FOW and an very cool Magus of the Unseen.
Game 3: I have a solid opening grip and it was just enough to win through Adam's countermagic

T4 D. Bragg
I've played Danny about 3 other times and have never won.  This time was different.
Game 1: I mull to 5 and lose quickly to the Time Vault / Key combo. I'm thinking  - Here we go again.
Game 2: My notes at this point are all in my head.  All I remember is that on my turn three Danny has a tapped Underground Sea a Black Lotus and an untapped Tropical Island in play.  I have a wastland - workshop - Mox - and Thorn in play. I start by wasting his Tropical to which he responds by breaking the lotus and tapping the Tropical to play Intuition.  He gets 2 Ancient Grudges and a Nature's Claim.  I give him the Claim and then procedd by playing a wasteland and using it on his Underground and then playing a Lodestone.  Danny scoops.
Game 3: Can't remember shit for this game except that it was quick.  I believe I resolved a turn 1 metalworker and then puked my hand out shortly thereafter.

Finals - Bob Yu (Meandeck MUD)
Game 1: I don't have the experience against Null Rod.  This gives Bob a big advantage for this match.  I have a good opening hand until Bob plays a turn 1 null rod.  Bob's only problem now is that he is using Ancient Tomb mana to play his spells.  After a few turns of neither one of us doing much of anything due to mana issues, I fianally get my workshops online and play lodestone and trike which seals the deal for me in this game.

Game 2:  Again, null rod keeps my metalworker from being productive.  I actually do 7 damage to Bob with my little metal guy before he finally gets enough mana to cast his big guys.  This was a simple reversal of game 1.
Game 3: I'm on the play.  Readers - tell me if you would keep this opening 7.  Mox - Mox - Mana Vault - Mana Crypt - Metal Worker - Workshop - Chalice of the Void.  I keep it and play Mox - Mox - Mana Crypt (WRONG, it should have been mana vault) Workshop - Metalworker - Chalice to 2.  I forgot that I would be able to untap the vault (if I played it).  I ended up drawing into land and took 2 hits from my crypt and 2 attacks from his Lodestone which brings me down to 4.  I needed to   play a dude so I attacked with my equipped (SOFI) metalworker in the hopes that my draw of of SOFI would save me.  It didn't  Sad   My next draws were big men which meant that if I had played my mana vault instead of my mana crypt on turn 1 I would have bought myself two turns and possibly stay in the game a bit longer.

Anyway, making it to the finals was super fun.

PROPS: To everyone who showed. Hope you had a good time.
To the Black Gold Team for getting 4 into the T8
To Pierre, our newest team member for showing us what you're made of.

Slops: To one of my A/C units for not working.  It got pretty warm in there.

To wrap this report up I would like to share this judging moment.  I get called to a table and had to explain the interactions of Island Sanctuary - Teferi's Puzzle Box and Chains of Mephistopheles.  After explaining the proper sequences I felt like giving a game loss to the player who allowed those three permanents to resolve and a warning to the player who played them for making me go through that.

Here's to my spectacular last place finish!  (Well, as near to last place as to not matter.)

I expected to face alot of fish, oath and shop.  I ended up facing TPS variants three out of the five rounds!  Since I can't seem to bring myself to properly netdeck, here's what I ran (to the best of my recollection).  Let's call it "The Deck That Didn't Know What It Wanted To Be."

[deck]
Creatures (8)
2 Trygon Predator
2 Sower of Temptation
3 Dark Confidant
1 Thada Adel

Permission (11)

1 Echoing Truth
1 Hurkyl's Recall

Draw (3)
1 Brainstorm
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Skeletal Scrying
1 Sensei's Divining Top

Tutor (4)
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Tinker

Recursion (1)
1 Yawgmoth's Will

Win Cond (5)
1 Voltiac Key
1 Time Vault
1 Sphinx of the Steel Wind
1 Tendrils of Agony

Mana (24)
9 Mox+Friends
3 Misty Rainforest
3 Polluted Delta
1 Tolarian Academy
1 Underground Sea
1 Watery Grave
1 Tropical Island
3 Island
1 Swamp
1 Forest

Sideboard (15)
4 Mindbreak Trap
4 Yilixid Jailer
4 Engineered Plague
2 Propaganda
1 Diabolic Edict

[/deck]

Here's the dirty play by play:

ROUND 1 - Versus Oath

Game 1 - I drop a confidant before I know what he's playing, and he keeps me off Drain mana with Wasteland and Strip Mine before dropping Iona for the win.  I bounced the Inkwell but could not deal with the Angel.  I notice that he named Blue with Iona.

Game 2 - I felt good about this game, but it got away from me.  At one point, he had Oath on the board and I had Trygon and Edict in my hand.  I gambled that he'd let Trygon resolve, and then as long as he did not Oath up Terrostadon, Trygon could have lunch and seal it up next turn.  This was probably a mistake.  I got lucky- he went Iona for Blue again.  Then I got unlucky - he dropped a second Oath.  From there, I could not keep up with his angels and elephants and got trampled.

ROUND 2 - Versus Confidant TPS

Game 1 - I get a huge initial hand with artifact mana, confidant, acceleration, and FOW.  I have a pretty big first turn, setting myself up to Vault-Key on turn 2 or 3 or so... but Brian shows me what speed really is, going lethal with tendrils with his own FOW backup around turn 3 or so.

Game 2 - Brain goes for the storm kill around turn 3 again, feeling safe because I'd pitched a FOW to counter his Confidant.  Unfortunetly, I was packing Mindbreak and another FOW, so Tendrils gets exiled.  From there I can keep a lid on and his Bob grinds him away.

Game 3 - I keep Brian off storm for quite some time, and our life totals both start heading south on the back of Bob.  Eventually I have a FoW and Tendrils in my hand, and I somehow convince myself that Tendrils is an instant.  I don't know if this was the mistake that cost the match, though I did work on the assumption that I could kill him in response to his Tendrils.  Oh well.  Eventually he goes off for less than lethal to survive, and I do likewise, but he manages to get there on Bob beats afterwards.

ROUND 3 - Versus TPS

Game 1 - He goes off turn 1 on the play with FOW backup.  WHELP.

Game 2 - After taking issue with the flexibility of my pre-approved proxy (yeesh) he goes for Vault-Key on turn 2.  But, he doesn't have the mana to activate the key.  Next turn, I topdeck Recall and send the combo back to his hand.  When he tries to re-cast Key, it eats a hard casted Mindbreak Trap.  From there, I keep the lid on him with counterspells and beat down with Trygon Predator.

Game 3 - He goes off turn 2, but I stop him.  I forget how; I think I had two spell pierces to cut him off his demonic tutor.  I get there on the back of some beat or other, probably involving Bob.

ROUND 4 - Versus BUG Fish

Game 1 - Two wastelands, a strip mine, and a null rod against my hand of non-basics and moxen.  Yep.  The only consolation was that it took him like twenty turns to find a body to beat me down with.  I notice he is not playing with Daze.

Game 2 - My hangover was kicking in pretty bad at this point.  I find myself able to Tinker on T1, and decide to risk a Force of Will to win it right there.  He had the Force.  From there, his beaters took out me and my hobbled hand.

ROUND 5 - Versus TPS (again)

Game 1 - I mulligan down to crap, he goes off turn 4 or so.

Game 2 - After boarding in Mindbreak, TPS is alot more fun.  I keep a lid on him the whole game, and end up in a situation where I have something like 10 mana available, bob, predator, and skeletal scrying.  No way to lose this, right?  Well, I then go on to fail so spectacularly that it makes my head spin.  First, I tap the Tolarian Academy to play scrying for 5, which was stupid, because I was likely to draw more artifacts (I did) and would have got more value out of my Academy if I had used other mana.  Next, continuing my genius, I decide not to throw down the Mana Crypt to run out Vault-Key and go infinite right then and there anyway, because I was worried that Bob and Crypt could kill me in two turns.  Finally, after giving my opponent his critical extra turn, I held back on FOW'n his Yawgwill for fear of making sure I had a FOW to back up my Mindbreak trap if he had more gas to storm with.  Guess what happened after that?

So, all in all, a pretty frustrating day.  I piloted the Little Deck That Couldn't right into the side of a barn.

Awesome pics!

Although you didn't get any of me dream-crushing my opponents.

Tournament report on the way...

Also, good playing Vintage again. Standard and Legacy is boring as shit. Good to know that I still got it!

that was a super fun tournement!

heres my quick tournement report:

Round One -TPS
Game one: He mulls to 5 on the play and never really had a shot. I thoughtsiezed him a few times and rode a bob to victory
Game 2: I keep a loose hand and about turn 3 he starts going off. My hand is 5 lands, a force and goyf, with no pressue and awkward lands in play. He rituals a few times then casts demonic, I start to get ready to pick up my cards. He gets yawg will and casts it. After a few more rituals he has 5 in his pool. He demonics with 3 left (storm is like 15). He looks through his library for a few minutes and after a while just concedes. Awkward. This taught the valuable lesson that you should NEVER concede in a game of vintage.

Round 2 - Dredge
I am super excited because I have infinite dredge hate (4 leyline, 3 jailer, relic, needle)
g1: I waste his bazaar early and after a few turns of dredging a troll, he gets there. If I ripped a creature earlier I think I have a shot.
g2: I feel smug as a I keep t1 bob with leyine and force backup. I play the leyine and bob and pass. He plays a undiscovered paradise and passes back. I reveal a jailer of bob and draw another bob. Here is where I make the mistake of playing the second bob. From there mister bob takes me from 18 to zero in a zero fast amount of time. The ironic part is the only way I was going to loose that game was off my own bobs.

I am kind of frustrated, but some good pizza is enough to get my head back in the game

Round 3 - spicy crop rotation oath
g1: I get locked out of the game by waste effects and eventually oath tutors up some big fatties.
g2: We trade resources and go to top deck mode fast. I top deck lands then creatures.
g3:  I stick an early bob and ride to victory.

Round 4: Old School Noble fish (Daze + Stifle)
g1: He gets stuck on lands and my massice goyf makes short work of him.
g2: Again he gets stuck on lands and I feel bad sowering his tarmogoyf the turn before I win. My opponent was an extremely nice guy and I felt bad winning on such a low level.

round 5: The bubble round. SCV
g1: I get an early trygon and there is a sequence where he starts wheel of fortuning, time walking and digging. I counter his yawgwill and his wheel draws me in to force x2, peirce x2 nul rod, lands. I play and protect null rod FTW.
G2. He nutted me out with an early tinker
G3: He nutted me out with an early tinker (AGAIN) but being a nice guy and a team member, splits with me so we are locked for t8.

t8 - STAX
I thought this was a bad matchup so I am kind of worried.
g1: I thoughtsieze him and take his only gas. He rips tinker for some dumb robot and races me (That damn card)
g2: He keeps a loose hand on the rational that he didn't see what I am playing game one and his only purpose for this game is info. I play some duders and there is a key turn were he rips tinker (!) and casts it. I spell peirce. Had he played a different land he could have resolved it.
g3: A play an ealy bob and take him from 20-0 with it. He had double shpere and kept complaining about his draws, which is no way to win. But I will take it.

Between rounds Golenda mentions I got extremely lucky to win while keeping thoughtsiezes. apparently against STAX that card is trash.

t4: BoYu with STAX
g1: I am on the play and drop a land and pass. He drops a turn 1 Trinisphere (which I force) followed by lodestone. There was a turn where in response to Tanglewire I could have flashed in vendillion which trades with Lodestone, but I am to demoralized to see it.
g2: On the play I go lotus, land Trygon. Seems good.
g3: I think I had a solid chance, but Mr. Yu has on fire , and nothing was going to stop his rampage through this tournement. I forget this game but He probably played some dumb robots and killed me.

Me and danny split 3 and 4th. Getting $36 each which is still pretty good. Afterwards we all went out to dinner at The Draft and had some good times.

Props:
Carl for hosting. Coming down to game with you guys is always a treat!

Slops:
To tinker, for ruining every single game it resolved.

Sadly, I was working, otherwise I would have been in attendance to tear those MUD and Stax decks apart!  The amount of TPS in that meta is interesting though...I don't think I've seen that many people bring storm combo here before.

I'm curious about the Oath list running Emrakul, but no Terastodon...I'd like to see some justification for that.  Although Emrakul is powerful, it doesn't impact the board at all the turn it hits, and adding in the Sphinx, there's two creatures that don't actually do anything to disrupt the opponent.  In a meta full of shop decks, it seems Dumbo is a much more useful monster to Oath out.  Emrakul and Sphinx just give your opponent one more turn to do broken things.

Really enjoyed playing last weekend and I'll be back for sure.  Nice to meet everyone and play a little Vintage after a 6 year hiatus.

Round 4: Old School Noble fish (Daze + Stifle)
