Whats up everyone, My names Mike.
Ive been an off and on visitor of TMD for a few years now. Just recently registered and have found myself on here every day while im at work lol.

I started playing Magic around the time of Urza's block, and played all the way up until I was in college. When I started going to school I met a bunch of people that played that got me into the "Vintage" scene, previously only really just playing "Kitchen table format" haha. This was in Champaign, Illinois in about 6-7 years ago. I quit playing for a few years and ended up moving to Southwest Louisiana. When I moved here I met some friends who played casual magic and I had sold my collection when I had quit playing minus a stax deck. Ive gotten back into the game now with a new love for it that I havn't had since I was younger.

I'd really like to start going out and playing in tournaments again and networking with other people who share the same love for vintage as I do. Im noticing a problem though. At the card shop here in my city, has a decent amount of regulars (20-30) , but all of them for the most part save for like 3 or 4 are younger. The shop has tournaments every week but its all type 2 stuff. Ive talked to the owner quite a bit about holding vintage tournaments, even if just for shop credit, just to be able to play...but he always says no because "there isnt enough people that would want to do that"

Even when playing casual there at the shop they complain about my decks because im using "Illegal" cards as they like to call it lol, most of the stuff they have never even seen. I took my TPS deck up there the other day to play some games and no one would even play it because it was "too strong" , mind you it doesnt even have any power in it or anything too crazy, the most expensive things in there are the academy and mana crypt.

So two questions, now that my little backstory has been explained...

1) Does anyone know of any vintage tournaments or places to play in the Louisiana/Texas area? Most of the stuff im seeing is more up north, and making 18 hour trips isnt the easiest thing to do with a work schedule.

and 2) Any ideas or suggestions on how to get newer players/shop owners into getting a vintage scene going?

I canīt answer the first question. The second question I can try. If your 2nd deck isnīt too valuable, you could take 2 decks with you to the local shop and ask people to play against you with one of your decks. Another way could be to ask extended / legacy players first. They are more likely to convert because their card pools are older. You can also show them how awesome vintage is if you tell them about the big European eternal events (Bazaar of Moxen and Eurovino).
