So I'm trying to pimp out my deck.  I don't really like foils so I'm going for full art alterations.  So I wanted to know TMDs opinion.

What do you think is the extent of cards that should be full arted?  I know any card that has severe damage would be a good candidate for alterations.  But what is the extent of what you would full art?  Is it worth full arting FoWs+?  Drains+?  Or anything but power.

Secondly whats a good and reliable artist?  I'm using a local artist for my cheap stuff but want to use only a top artist for the good stuff.

As a man with an art degree who has seen a lot of full art cards I would suggest contacting BC for the artist who did his stuff. I found it to be quite impressive when I saw them in person.

I have commissioned alters from Laura Van Wie (http://alteredcardsbylaura.com/), and poxy14 (http://s671.photobucket.com/albums/vv78/poxy14/ or earlgrantdeleon@yahoo.com).  Both of them did a really great job with my cards, and were very reliable to work with.

To answer your first question, I have altered Underground Seas, and an altered Mana Drain.  I wouldn't alter power, but pretty much anything else.

In your live update thread, the Seas really stood out to me, even being such a small part of the photo. Absolutely gorgeous, IMHO. I'd love to see dedicated pics in the pimp cards thread, if that's not too much trouble.

I suppose it's mostly the thought that this format is just one big Mistake; and not even a very sophisticated one at that.
Much like humanity itself.

I ditched most of my foils (still am) a long time ago, and have been altering (and occassionally commissioning) to eventually have every card I played with altered. It will take a while, but it will be incredible once finished. Obviously you'd rather have more played cards if you're going to have them be made borderless or something, but to me there's not really any card I wouldn't want altered (other than misprinted/miscut stuff, which is already awesome on its own).

There are plenty of artists to comission stuff. It should be suited to what you enjoy. I'd refer you to the massive thread on MTGSalvation to start looking through that to find exampes and artists you like:
