So after taking an almost year long hiatus from vintage and coming back to the game two weeks ago at a tournament in long island, I decided to play blue again.  Somehow most of the room still thought I was playing shops by round 6, but I suppose that is good for me.

The deck I played

// Lands
    1  Tolarian Academy
    4  Misty Rainforest
    3  Underground Sea
    2  Island
    3  Volcanic Island
    2  Scalding Tarn
    1  Library of Alexandria

// Creatures
    3  Dark Confidant
    1  Inkwell Leviathan
    1  Gorilla Shaman (2)

// Spells
    1  Mox Emerald
    1  Mox Jet
    1  Mox Pearl
    1  Mox Ruby
    1  Mox Sapphire
    1  Black Lotus
    1  Sol Ring
    1  Mana Crypt
    2  Jace, the Mind Sculptor
    3  Mana Drain
    4  Force of Will
    1 [DDE] Voltaic Key
    1  Time Vault
    1  Ancestral Recall
    1 [BD] Brainstorm
    1 [V09] Tinker
    1  Time Walk
    1  Yawgmoth's Will
    2  Spell Pierce
    1  Demonic Tutor
    1  Hurkyl's Recall
    2  Duress
    1  Tezzeret the Seeker
    1 [V09] Gifts Ungiven
    2  Pyroblast
    1  Spell Snare
    2  Mystic Remora
    1  Darkblast
    1  Sculpting Steel

// Sideboard
SB: 2 [GTW] Yixlid Jailer
SB: 2  Red Elemental Blast
SB: 2  Magus of the Unseen
SB: 1 [HOP] Relic of Progenitus
SB: 2  Ingot Chewer
SB: 3  Ravenous Trap
SB: 2  Greater Gargadon
SB: 1 [BD] Diabolic Edict

Things to change: I lost 2 matches all day, both to mono brown mud with smokestack and tangle wire.  The stax sideboard choices were pretty horrendous, as I lost games due to tangle wire with all my answers being sorcery speed.

Main decked 2 pyroblast and a darkblast because I expected a lot of mirror, but I only got paired with it once all day.  Greater gargadon was fucking amazing (more on that later.)  The ichorid board choices were pretty solid, and were only relevant in one game all day.  Maindeck sculpting steel was hot, copied a lodestone golem, an inkwell, and time vault.   Tezz was a win condition in 3 games, and definitely worth it's spot.

round 1 Visna with tps
game 1 we trade duress effects and very little happens until I resolve tezzeret and it goes the distance around turn 5 or 6.
game 2 board in ravenous traps for some reason, and play a long game which results with me having 2 dark confidant and a jace in play, the confidants finish the game.

round 2 brass man with ichorid (lol)
game 1 I have the absolute nut hand against the tezz mirror consisting of library pyroblast turn 1 confidant and a force, I mull it after seeing Andy serum powder his hand and discover that I pretty much just lose game 1.  This is true, and I lose on turn 2.
game 2 board in ravenous traps, relic and 2x jailer.
I open with a hand containing double trap and some counters and possibly a turn 1 confidant, the traps buy me enough time and I assemble key vault around turn 5.
game 3 he plays bazaar and passes
I have a nut hand consisting of turn 1  lotus mana crypt mox mox tezz and a force.  I play it safe and win 2 turns later with counter backup.

round 3 matt with brown stuff
game 1 I keep a sketchy hand and get tangle wired all day into oblivion.
game 2 I ride the maindeck gorilla shaman to victory
game 3 I open mox blue, mox black, time vault, tinker, force, force, jace and keep on the draw. This was probably sketchy, but I basically win if I draw any land and I had double force to deal with shit.  I don't draw a land for 3 turns and lose to 3 running tangle wires plus a sculpting steel on one.  More hurkyl's would have been nice.

round 4 sitting at 3-1
brian with mono brown with serum powder
game 1 he serum powders and mulls to 5.  I have a gorilla shaman early and pretty much dominate the board with it.
game 2 I resolve magus of the unseen very early and repeatedly steal his mana vault causing him  1 damage a turn.  I draw counters for every important threat he plays and he loses 20 turns later to magus damge 1 per turn.

round 5 4-1
rich meyst with the mirror, sort of
game 1 I draw really good resolve a tezzeret and win somewhere around turn 6
game 2 I have vault key assembled by turn 4 with reb and force backup.

round 6 5-1 chris with noble fish
my favorite match of the day
game 1 I have lotus gifts mana crypt mox mox land gorilla shaman and time walk.  I go for turn 1 gifts and itt gets forced.  I tapped mana wrong so I can't follow up with time walk.  I end up losing to null rod about ten turns later.
game 2 I board in gargadons and ingot chewers because I didn't really have a strategy for fish.  I win with key vault turn 2 with force backup
game 3 I suspend a gargadon on turn 1 along with reb backup.  I counter everything he plays except for 1 pridemage which I hardcast ingot chewer and sac my mox to gargadon in response to targeting it with the CiP ability.  Ingot chewer trades with pridemage, I have will in hand, I draw another land so I go all in with the gargadon plan as he has about 6 counters left.  I cast will and sac 2 moxes in response removing time counters, will resolved, I replay all my moxes, the ingot chewer and sac all my moxes and a land to gargadon and start swinging with a 9/7.  He boarded out his swords to plowshares, so the game was mine after that.

round7 Id with another noble fish player

top 8 jeff recoulet playing 5c stax
g1 he mulls to 4 and I get lucky that he had to go down that far, I win sometime around turn 10.
G2 I get locked with wire and stack, I believe lodestone and factory got there.
G3 I open with land, mox, lotus, recall, tinker, tezz in hand. tinker for inkwell, win 3 turns later.  The other option was to go turn 1 tezz and search but I was afraid of a seal of cleansing or even welder+ time walk beats me there.

top 4 another jeff with oath.
g1 I open mox blue, land, force force drain and pyroblast and some other non blue card.  He goes turn 1 orchard lotus oath with force backup I lose.
g2 he briberys me at some point mid game and steals my inkwell.  I have a confidant out and end up at 5 life after 2 inkwell swings needing to live through the confidant flip with key vault.  I gifts for darkblast, gargadon, diabolic edict and jace and kill my own confidant and win with infinite turns.
g3 I open a sick hand with gargadon, pyroblast some forces and other stuff.  He turn 1 blind pithing needles gargadon..................... ............................. ...................If I hadn't mentioned gargadon in between games my money is on him not even thinking of gargadon with needle.  but regardless, I play a mox monkey that gets forced along the line as it would have eaten 3 of his permanents.  I am never out of control in the game we play draw go for a bit until I get up to 7 cards and start abusing library.  Eventually he resolves another bribery on me but I have the edict in hand to kill the inkwell along with the darkblast if I was in danger of dying to my confidant.  I win shortly after

top 8 Joe with mono brown tangle wire.dec
game 1 I keep a really solid hand with gorilla shaman and a demonic tutor.   But he opens with chalice at 1 along with a karn.  I take some beatings from karn and I trade my confidant for his thorn of amythyst when it is animated and attacks.  I demonic and   I set up a hurkyls recall at his end step when I am at 5 life and stabilize the board.  on my turn I set up a mana drain for his turn and untap/win with yawg will.

game 2 I force turn 1 smokestack, turn 2 smokestack and fuck up with the blue card I pitch.  I pitch drain when I would have had 2 blue mana on my turn, and instead resolve magus of the unseen.  If I instead had just kept the drain and pitched the magus I would have been able to drain the crucible he dropped the very next turn and untapped and played jace.  Instead he drew a wasteland and I lost the game, could not come out of the hole.

game 3 I have turn 1 dark confidant with 2 moxes and a land but no force of will.  he has yet another nut hand with shop and some other mana along with an early smokestack.  I don't hit land in the next 2 turns via dark confidant and fall into a giant hole with him resolving shit like trinisphere and a sphere along with a tangle wire.  I draw ingot chewer and just want to kill myself for running it over 3x more hurkyls in the board.  By the time I finally scrap back into the fucking game with 3 mana to evoke it under trinisphere, it's already too late.  I'm at 4 and die to a lodestone golem.

so I take home 2nd a pearl, and the satisfaction that I beat the shit out of chriss browne's record.  If I had made a proper sideboard, and ran 3x more hurkyls I would have probably won as I had about 6 chances to cast hurkyls in my upkeep under a tangle wire when I was holding ingot chewer instead, but the deck's only instability came against mono brown decks packing smokestack, and both players had really good hands all 3 games we played.

Not bad for the 2nd tournament in nearly a year.  I'm looking forward to going undefeated at Waterbury.  Good luck to me.

Way to be a liar Travis.  I'm disappointed in you.

I was at that event, and I happen to know for a fact that you didn't even show up, never mind make the finals.  The man who got second I played against in round two.

He was a classy gent named Nick Papagorgio

Have you no shame?

Have you considered more Greater Gargadons (maybe maindeck) and adding a Balance plus Tundra to the sideboard?

Did someone move it?   The link on morphling.de to it says its been moved.  Why?

Looks like the tournament report got erased.  Demonic Attorney may be adding decklists to it or something else.

the thread has disappeared Sad
I finished 5th.  Here's my report:
After planning to go to the Grudge Match in Hadley for several weeks, everyone from Pa backs out. Couple days later, we find another to go with so the trips back on. Set out from home to Keith's place on Friday, stay the night, get little sleep thanks to his cat's claws, and set out at 6am on Saturday morning, with me driving on what Im sure is less than 2 hours of sleep. Once we hit the highway, we fly at 80mph till midway through NY when we get clocked and pulled over. Cops asks for licence and registration, sits in his car for several minutes, comes back up and says, "Here's your licence and registration." and walks back to his car. After that, no more problems. We get to the store with over an hour left till the tournament starts. We survey the area, and get the Team Pa situation straightened out (Keith Seals was the only one from the voted Grudge Match team to make it to the tournament. Team Pa becomes Team My Car (Me (Evan Hundertmark), Keith, and Paul Mastriano)).

Round 1 - Dark Depths
Game 1 – I mulligan to 5. He plays Bob, beats for win.
Game 2 – I seal win quickly through spheres and stacks.
Game 3 – I mulligan to 6 he mulligans to 5. My hand is: Workshop, Pithing Needle, Pithing Needle, Chalice, Chalice, something else (may have been Smokestack). Hes on the play. Goes: Black Lotus, break for BBB, casts Demonic Consultation, names Hexmage, flips 6 and a few more, plays Hexmage, plays Dark Depths, sacs Hexmage, gets 20/20 flying, indestructible dude. I fail to topdeck Tangle wire = I loose.

Games 1-2
Matches 0-1

Round 2 – Dredge
On the way to my seat, I notice that the store has become infested with bugs. This provides a huge problem for the majority of the rest of the day. (Bugs in eyes are really fucking annoying!!!)
Game 1 – Dredge does what it does. Loose
At this point my opponent is really pissed about the bugs. In the middle of the next game I became 95% certain that he was going to get up and walk out of the store. Sadly he did not do this.
Game 2 – After siding in 15 cards, I am on the play. We both mul to 6. He manages to beat me for a couple of turns but I eventually get enough dudes out to block his. Early on I see this game is going to end with him decking, everything he puts in his graveyard, I remove quickly. I eventually get Trinisphere in play, he only has 2 lands, I then play Cap, turn after that I play Sculpting Steel on Cap, sac it, and remove his last 3 mana producing lands. Next turn I remove 3 more cards. He decks a few turns later.
Game 3 – By turn 2 I have 2 Tormod’s Crypts and a relic in play, and he Nature Claimed my Pithing Needle. He beats me with a Narcomoeba for a few turns while I block other dudes with Karn. Eventually I eat one of my moxes to remove his Bridges. I Cap him, remove 3 Natures Claims. Comes down to beating through dudes and removing his graveyard from the game in response to a Golgari Thug’s trigger. I win on turn 5 of extra turns.

Games 3-3
Matches 1-1

Round 3 – I don’t know, I saw a lot of typical blue cards and Inkwell
Game 1 – On the play, go mox, workshop, then my lodestone gets forced by pitching ancestral. I feel pretty good about this game at this point. He concedes a few turns later (cant remember what else happened).
Game 2 – We both mull to 6. He plays Tinker, fetches Inkwell. Next turn I play Sculpting Steel. He scoops to my Inkwell after I point out that Sculpting Steel does not target and therefore “shroud” does nothing to stop Inkwell from being coppied.

Games 5-3
Matches 2-1

Round 4 – Oath
Game 1 – I set up good game early. Tides turn in his favor when Oath hits the board. He flips some dude, his next turn, flips a second creature then draws the last card in his deck.
Game 2 – Hes on the play. Opens up with Tundra, Sapphire, Timevault, go. I play Shop, mox, smokestack, go. He untaps, plays Enlightened Tutor, fetches Key, draws Key, plays Key, no land drop, go. I untap, add counter to Smokestack, draw, play more permanents. He tries to stay in the game. Every time he draws a land, he had just sacced a land. I eventually overrun him.

Games 7-3
Matches 3-1

Round 5 – TPS
Game 1 - I play spheres. He plays lands and Necropotence. Starts drawing cards. I start beating with Factories. He plays Rebuild/hurkyls. I replay everything and win next turn.
Game 2 – I play Trinisphere, he plays lands, I beat with dudes, he bounces my stuff, plays Bargain, and attempts to go off, fails, and I win.

Games 9-3
Matches 4-1

Round 6 – Oath
Game 1 – I set up control early and win easily.
Game 2 – I win quickly, maybe double Lodestone. He puts up little fight.

Games 11-3
Matches 5-1

At this point all I have to do is draw into the top 8 but, I get paired down to someone with 13 points who has to play, so I have to play.

Round 7 – Bob Tez?
Game 1 – I won, cant remember what happened.
Game 2 – He plays turn 1 Vault. I play turn 1 Smokestack. My Stacks never gets a counter 
Game 3 – I loose some roles to Mana Crypt, but that doesn’t matter. I beat for the win.

Games 13-3
Matches 6-1

Top 8
I enter the top 8 in first place with 18 points.

Top 8 – Oath, my round 6 opponent.
Game 1 – I never really get set up, and right before he gets in control and wins, I receive a game loss for failure to desideboard.
Game 2 – I set up control early. He hangs in there, never getting past one land, but does Pithing Needle Mishra’s Factory, this makes the game last a lot longer than it should have. He Tinkers out Colossus. I Duplicant it. He gets Oath out. I beat him to 1. He flips Terastodon, destroys one thing on my side and 2 on his. I get Triskelion, in response he Nature’s Claims one of his moxes to put himself at 5. I think about attacks and decide to pass. He passes. I think about attacking again, I see Duplicant getting blocked by a token, Triskelion getting blocked by Terastodon, and Elephant getting blocked by his other token; he blocks duplicant with a token, triskelion with a token, and my token with terastodon. Next turn he Nature’s Claims my Duplicant. Now it’s Terastodon versus Triskelion. I topdeck another dude and win.
Game 3 – I keep Workshop, Sol Ring, Smokestack, Lodestone, Tangle Wire, ?, ?. He keeps his hand. He opens with Sapphire Strip Mine. I play Shop, Sol Ring. He Spell Pierces my Sol Ring and Strips my Shop. He plays stuff. I topdeck 2 mox and a factory and never get back into the game.

I get to pick first from the 5th – 8th prize pool. First we are offered $60 each cash split. The prizes were 4x Force, 4x Phyrexian Dreadnaught, 1x Jace, the Mindsculptor, 4x Dark Confidant. I take 4x Force.

Props:
Lots of new faces.
Good competition.
Keith Seals and Paul Mastriano for deciding to make the trip.

Very suspicious, less than a week before the waterbury Wink

Why wouldn't the decklists just be edited into the thread?

No clue why it got deleted, there wasn't any special tech in the top 8 and every deck was monotonously unspectacular.

I asked in the mod lounge, too, and no one has answered or explained what happened.   It's kinda fishy, although I'm not a conspiracist.  Those tournament results are the most proximate results to the Waterbury, and probably the most important metagame information a player could have.   It's not a good thing that this information has been intentionally removed or deleted.
