As requested by many people, here are the rules for Peasant EDH. Seriously, get those decks built people, this format is a lot of fun.
Cards that are banned in Peasant EDH that are different then regular EDH.Psychatog, Sensei's Divining Top, and Riftsweeper.
Deck Construction Rules
1. Players must choose an uncommon creature as the "General" for their deck.
2. The General's mana cost defines what color of mana symbols may appear on cards in the deck.
o Colored mana symbols which may appear in a PEDH deck are restricted to the colors appearing in the General's mana cost.
o Lands whose type includes swamp, island, plains, forest and/or mountain (e.g.: basic lands, shock lands, dual lands, Shadowmoor special-basics, etc) DO contain the corresponding mana symbol(s) as per CR 305.6. As such, they may not appear in a deck unless the General is of the corresponding color(s).
o While Hybrid mana symbols may be played with either color mana, they count as both colors. As such, they may only be played with a general which is ALL of the hybrid mana symbols' colors.
o Basic land words (swamp, forest, etc) in the text box of a card do NOT represent a colored mana symbol. They are not restricted to generals of the same color.
3. A deck may not generate mana outside its colors. If an effect would generate mana of an illegal color, it generates colorless mana instead.
4. With the exception of basic lands, no two cards in the deck may have the same English name.
5. PEDH is played with vintage legal cards, with the exception that cards are legal as of their set's prerelease.
6. A PEDH deck must contain exactly 100 cards, including the General.
7. A PEDH deck must contain a minimum of 92 common cards.
8. A PEDH deck cannot exceed of maximum of 8 uncommon cards, including the General.
9. A PEDH deck may have a sideboard of exactly 10 common cards.
10. A card’s rarity for PEDH is always considered the lowest rarity a card has been printed in a physical set.
o Example: Loxodon Warhammer is an Uncommon.
o Example: Trinket Mage is a Common.
o Example: Master’s Edition and other online sets do not affect rarities for PEDH.
o The official reference for rarity is Gatherer.
Play rules
1. The start of game procedure for EDH is as follows:
1. Players announce their choice of General and move that card to the command zone.
2. Players may then sideboard if the optional rules for side boarding are being used.
3. Each player draws a hand of seven cards.
4. Players may mulligan, using the “Brittany” mulligan rule.
“Brittany” Mulligan rule
Because EDH games are long and usually not played in multigame matches, EDH uses a modified mulligan rule designed to alleviate mana-light hands without significantly increasing the odds of finding individual cards.
A. In turn order, players may exile (face down) some or all of the cards in their hand.
B. Each player then draws one less card from their deck than the number they exiled.
C. Players who exiled at least one card may return to step 1 and repeat the process, drawing one less card each time.
D. Players shuffle all exiled cards into their deck.
2. Players begin the game with 30 life.
3. Being a General is not a characteristic [MTG CR109.3], it is a property of the card. As such, "Generalness" cannot be copied or overwritten by continuous effects, and does not change with control of the card.
Examples: A Body Double copying a General in a graveyard is not a General. A General which is affected by Cytoshape, or is face down, is still a General.
4. If a player has been dealt 21 points of combat damage by a particular General during the game, that player loses a game.
o This is an additional state based effect.
o General Damage is cumulative throughout the game; nothing can reduce the amount of damage a General has previously done to a player.
o Because it is a property of the card and not a characteristic of the game object, a card is still the same General even if it leaves the field and returns.
o While effects can raise a player's life total, it doesn't reduce the amount of damage previously taken from a General. (Ex: Beacon of Immortality)
o Conversely, combat damage can be reduced, prevented, or replaced as it is taken, in which case it was never dealt and doesn't count towards the total taken from that General. (eg: Fog or Captain's Maneuver)
o General Damage is specific to each General, not combined across all Generals.
o A player can lose if he or she is dealt 21 points of combat damage by his or her own General (Ex: under someone else's control).
While a General is in the command zone, it may be cast. As an additional cost to cast a General from the command zone, its owner must pay

for each time it was previously cast from the command zone. (Ex: it costs 6WW to cast a General with converted mana cost WW for the third time.)
o A General is still subject to the normal timing restrictions for casting creatures (unless it has Flash or some other affect allows it to be played at another time, such as Vedalken Orrery)
If a General would be put into a graveyard or exile from anywhere, its owner may choose to move it to the command zone instead.
o This is a replacement effect; the creature never goes to the graveyard and will not trigger such abilities.
o Generals will move to the library or hand as normal; only transitions to Exile or the Graveyard may be replaced.
Generals are subject to the Legend rule; they will be put into the graveyard or command zone at the same time as any other legendary creatures with the same name.
Abilities which refer to other cards owned outside the game (Wishes, Spawnsire, Research, and Ring of Ma'ruf) do not function in EDH unless the optional sideboard rule is in use. If sideboards are used, wishes and similar cards may retrieve sideboard cards.
Tournament Policy
1. Matches are assigned as One-on-One pairings; therefore, no multi-opponent game scenarios.
2. Players only play one game to determine the match.
3. Rounds are 50 minutes long.
4. Events are run as Swiss with a cut to playoffs; however, the amount of Swiss Rounds is +2.
o Amount of Players is 4-8 = 5 Rounds
o Amount of Players is 9-16 = 6 Rounds
o Amount of Players is 17-32 = 7 Rounds
5. Intentional Draws are NOT ALLOWED IN PEDH Tournaments and will result in an immediate disqualification to the players who are involved.
The purpose of this tournament policy is to remove some of the variance associated with EDH events. The games are typically too long to run a full best of three match in a reasonable amount of time, but one game matches in MTG can lead to very luck dependant results. This is why there are additional Swiss rounds, sideboards, and friendlier mulligan rules. The reason that intentional draws are not allowed is because they undermine the effect of additional rounds diminishing variance. Remember we play cards because they are fun and we want to win; therefore, we should enjoy utilizing our deck ideas and play skill to actually determine a winner.
