Round Three... Fight!
Submission cutoff: Thursday 10/14, 11:59pm Pacific Time.
Criteria: Design a card that takes two or more of the themes listed in the Scars of Mirrodin FAQ (-1/-1 counters, Poison Counters, Infect, Imprint, Metalcraft, Proliferate) and interacts interestingly with both. Bonus points if you do so without explicitly naming any of the themes themselves. Example: Dragon Blood interacts with -1/-1 counters and Infect indirectly. Serrated Arrows interacts with -1/-1 counters explicitly.
As always, polish on the card design and well thought out flavor are a big plus. Good luck!

I suppose it's mostly the thought that this format is just one big Mistake; and not even a very sophisticated one at that.
Much like humanity itself.

Yeah, me too. I think everyone who filled out the essays correctly (minimum and maximum word count) advanced.

Yeah, me too. I think everyone who filled out the essays correctly (minimum and maximum word count) advanced. I wasn't paying attention, and didn't even know the actual event being "practiced" for was even on yet. Still reading up on the first one, heh.

Ghost in the Machine B Instant (Common) Put a -1/-1 counter on target creature. Metalcraft - Put three -1/-1 counters on that creature instead.

Venser's Touch - 1W (Uncommon) Instant Exile target artifact. Return the exiled card to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step.
Momentary Blink for artifacts. Reset counters or imprinted cards. Temporarily remove an artifact to take them below metalcraft.

I know this is late, so it won't qualify for this one but here goes: Quicksilver Gains Sorcery (R) [Phyrexian] As an additional cost to cast Quicksilver Gains, sacrifice a creature. Choose an artifact. You may copy that artifact three times. If those artifacts require counters, they enter the battlefield with a number of that type of counters equal to the sacrificed creature's converted mana cost.

I kinda figured the replies would be light since the real deal is going on. Since Anusien and Marco were the only two that responded, I'm cool with extending the deadline so long as neither of them objects. Better for everyone if we can get more ideas to bounce off each other, right?

New cutoff is 11:59pm of Weds this week, Oct 19th.
Hope a few more people take advantage and jump in. I really like the idea of this being a continually running thing, for kicks if nothing else. I'll be sad if it dies off from lack of participation.

Today is the 20th... Here's an entry: Carbonite Argentum Cast Wish - Artifact Argentum Cast Wish enters the battlefield with one wish counter on it. When Argentum Cast Wish has two or more wish counters on it, sacrifice it. If you do, for each wish counter that was on Argentum Cast Wish return a face up exiled card you own to your hand. On Mirrodin, all wishes are cast once, but only a few are cast again.Minor interactions with Metalcraft and Imprint, dependent on Proliferate to 'work'.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.
Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops. I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Sorry about that. I was on a trip out of town last weekend, and ended up scrambling Thurs/Fri to take care of the stuff before flying out. I'll try to go over the entries and pick a winner later today.

Marco: I liked your entry a lot. Quick, clean, and relevant. I think this fits really well with the block as we've seen it thus far, and I appreciated the simple elegance. I think people often go way overboard with the complexity of their cards, and I'm glad to see that you didn't. Side note: I'm a fan of Masamune Shirow. Was your name choice was a reference to this)?Anusien: Awesome design. I love that it takes an old idea and twists it into something fitting of the block. Mirrodin always stuck me as a traditional Magic template plated in chrome. I think this card really embodies that notion, even without representing a physical object. The way you fulfilled the bonus criteria also felt really slick to me. Darkenslight: Neat idea, but I think the implementation was a bit shaky. Sacrificing a creature isn't typically blue, and the actual mechanics of the card feel unclear to me. Why is there a "may" in the copying of the artifacts? When is a card considered to "require" counters? How does this fit the criteria of interaction w/ multiple themes as listed above? I can see Metalcraft (although it's redundant if you're copying your own artifact, since that puts you to 4). Also, the power level of this card might be a bit much. Making three copies of any card type seems highly suspect to abuse. Anything with an ETB trigger can get pretty crazy (ie. Precursor Golem, Myr Battlesphere, Contagion Engine) @DubDub: This one felt a bit weird to me as well. I certainly agree that the interaction with Imprint is minor, and I don't really see it being very useful. The sacrifice trigger strikes me as too narrow to see much play in Standard. Maybe some cute tricks with Rebound? I don't see the tie to Metalcraft, other than the fact that this is yet another artifact. I like the dependency on Proliferate, but I also think that makes the card overcosted. This feels like it does lots of neat things with older cards, but I had though it would be clear from the focus on SOM mechanics that relevance in Standard was important to me. Winner: Anusien!
