First things first: my sincere thanks to the guys who made the trip out to Brothers Grim yesterday.  Between the GP in Toronto, and Legacy events in Philly, we were kind of crushed in terms of attendance, but I know that I had a great time anyways.  At the end of the day yesterday Sean Higgins’ Ravager Affinity stood tall, winning an Ancestral Recall.

Complete Metagame Breakdown:

Mana Drains:

Elephant Oath – 2
Titan Oath – 1
Jace Control – 1
Cobra Vault – 1

Workshops:

5CStax – 1
Ravager Affinity – 1

Bazaars:

Dredge – 2

Null Rods:

Noble Fish – 1
B/U/W Fish w/Vault – 1
Suicide Black – 1
BUG Fish – 1
GAT – 1

Rituals:

Bob Tendrils – 1
Gush Storm – 1

It seems ironic to call the Ravager Affinity deck a Shop deck, as it ran 0 Workshops, but it is difficult to put it under the Null Rod pillar, as Null Rod shuts the deck off…  That being said, it’s tough to analyze a field that is comprised of 16 decks, but the field was relatively diverse.  No one pillar dominated and the field was wide open.

Top 8 Pairings and Results:

Jake Gans vs. Nick Coss – Gans wins
Sean Higgins vs. Dave Gans – Higgins wins
Alex Owen vs. Ralph Parsinitz – Owen wins
Robert Lawrence vs. Brian Reilly – Lawrence wins

Top 4 Pairings and Results:

Jake Gans vs. Robert Lawrence – Gans wins
Sean Higgins vs. Alex Owen – Higgins wins

Finals:

Sean Higgins vs. Jake Gans – Higgins wins

Congratulations to Sean Higgins on both his first N.Y.S.E. win, and his first N.Y.S.E. top 8.  Congratulations to Jake Gans for sewing up the Player of the Year race.  Additionally, I’d like to congratulate all of our top 8 competitors.

Due to the number of entrants the other giveaways that are normally done were not.  9th place prize, was awarded, and there are some very, very Pale Moons for one James Q. Hangley to pick up.

Whenever you have an event with poor turnout, there are a million little problems that crop up.  The Ancestral Recall was guaranteed, and my sincere thanks to Vincent Forino for taking a little less than we had discussed.  My sincere thanks go out to Brian Paskoff, our judge, who took a free dinner in lieu of full payment.  My thanks also go out to Brother’s Grim, for taking no fee from me on the day.  Brother’s Grim provides an exceptionally large venue with great staff.  Gil, Frank, Dave, I couldn’t run these events without you guys.  Thank you all.

There is nothing up on the calendar at the moment, but I am looking at running a Lotus tournament to kick off 2011.  The date I’m shooting for right now is Saturday, January 8th.  More news will be posted, hopefully, this week, about N.Y.S.E. XIII.

So, once again, thanks to all who made this possible, and thanks to all the faces, both old and new, who made it out for a great day of Vintage on Long Island.

Additionally, I'd like to offer one more big congratulations to Big Rob Lawrence, who has been a regular of my events, and not only cracked top 8 for the first time, but won his quarterfinals match, and gave Jake Gans a run for his money in the semifinals.  Persistence pays, and it was great to see you make it this far Rob.  Keep doing what you're doing...

@Brian

No worries.  GP's that are close enough to travel to are rare enough, and it was understood.  I hope to see you at an N.Y.S.E. Lite, or at the Lotus event in January.
