Mark of Mark’s Comics has picked up an Unlimited Mox Sapphire in really nice shape (pictures will be posted later) and has asked me to post a tournament announcement for him.

The info:

What:

$25, 15 proxy, non-sanctioned Vintage tournament for an Unlimited Mox Sapphire.  The Sapphire is guaranteed at 25 entrants.
Additional prize support will be added with additional entrants.

When:

Saturday, January 15th, 2011
Registration begins at 11am.
Round one begins at 12pm, prompt.

Where:

Marks Comics & Collectibles
291 North Central Avenue
Valley Stream, NY 11580-2525
(516) 872-5919

A quick word on proxies.  Proper proxies are done on face up Magic cards with a Sharpie.  The name of the card is printed, with whatever non-relevant information being blacked out (i.e. if you proxy a Shared Discovery into an Ancestral Recall, you will block out the “tap three creatures” text, along with anything else that you wouldn’t find on an Ancestral Recall.)  If you’re creating a proxy for a piece of power (or Time Vault) you will not need to write out the full text.  If you’re proxying something that isn’t a very, very well known Vintage staple, please include the full text.  Printing out slips of paper and inserting them into sleeves (with cards) is unacceptable, as this alters the thickness of the cards, and would technically be a marked card.

Additional side events will be available to all players during the day, including drafts, and more non-sanctioned Vintage side events.

I will be your judge for the day.

This is not an N.Y.S.E. event, does not count towards the N.Y.S.E. Player of the Year standings, and will not grant the 2010 N.Y.S.E. Player of the Year free entry.

Mark is a great guy, and has been supporting Magic, and Vintage, for a long time.  Come out to the Island and support Mark, see your friends, and have a great time playing Vintage on Long Island…

Just a heads up that we're only one week out from this event!

I look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!

Some more information about the prize support has been made available to me.

The Mox Sapphire will be guaranteed at 21 entrants.

A second place prize of a Revised Volcanic Island will be added at 23 entrants.

At 28 entrants playmats will be given out to the top 8, 4 Zendikar storage boxes will be given out randomly to player who don't top 8, and a Plateau and a Scrubland will be added for third and fourth.

More prize support will be added as more players join.

Hope to see you all on Saturday!

18 people showed and we upped the price to $27 to keep the Mox in play.

I personally want to thank Mark for keeping a 2nd and 3rd place prize in play despite the lower turnout, as well as the free playmats. It was a great gesture from him s the store owner.

I'll have a tourney report up either tonight or tomorrow.
