Pro Tour regular and Japanese Magic player extraordinaire Tomoharu Saito has been disqualified without prize from Grand Prix Florence 2010 this weekend for Cheating (Stalling)...So what does this all mean? Well for one it means that the legendary Saito may be looking at a suspension and may see his pending Magic Hall of Fame induction take a hit. We break it all down after the jump!

Yeah I agree on the shopped trophies.  That and some of your language make the article seem a little too biased.  I'm just saying this as an objective reader.  I have no interest in the Pro tour or Saito or whatever.  But if he was cheating it's good he got caught regardless of who he is.

Thanks for reading guys! I thought the trophies would be a funny touch.

I have no dog in that fight, having never been on the Pro Tour, never met or played against Saito. But I am interested in the integrity of the game, and when players who demonstrate a pattern of manipulative behavior are allowed to continue that behavior to their advantage and win because of it at the highest level I think something needs to be said. I have no bias and look at the facts as an outsider from the Pro Tour, but someone who has spent time playing and paying attention since nearly the beginning.

Earlier this year Pro Tour regular Billy Moreno broke news for the whole world to see regarding a small sample size of Saito’s alleged Stalling at Grand Prix Columbus 2010, one of many accounts which allowed him to go on to win that GP in question. This was not the first time Saito has been seriously accused of Stalling before or since.

The link for "Since" is just a ubb that links to the article that you linked to at the beginning of this thought.

It's actually a discussion of his stalling at Columbus, Madrid, and elsewhere. Smile

This is a really good article.  This kind of shadiness that goes on all the time with the "pro" players never really comes to light, it's nice to see someone take it to issue.

Agreed. BTW, Channel Fireball apparently takes this specific issue pretty seriously, since they announced they won't carry Saito's article anymore.

***changed to take out irrelevant part of post
While I was watching my boyfriends match against saito I noticed no stalling, when I mentioned this to him he seemed surprised and said he had no problems in his match.

While I have never played against saito my boyfriend has (at gp columbus) and since I was watching him (my boyfriend) in the top8 I was also able to watch saito, and I never noticed any stalling, he also had no complaints. This is course one tournament, just thought I'd post what he said.

there's no value in stalling in the t8 since it is untimed.

I feel like they need to come down hard on him, and I think that includes a quick suspension with a disqualification of his HoF candidacy/election.  I don't think that Ruel should be in the HoF, but I accept that he is in.  If Ruel is caught cheating again, I wonder if something could be done about his status.

I was very glad to see CFB's quick response and action - LSV took the right route here.

There is absolutely no room for cheating, and in order to maintain the legitimacy of the game, and the results, quick and severe punishments are necessary in all cases, especially high profile ones.  I feel like the advent of the Hall of Fame only exacerbates this point.

Suspend him, don't let him in to the Hall of Fame, and make sure that (as this will be his third punishment) it's not a short stay on the sidelines.

....
What he said Wink I couldn't have said it better myself. Having guys like this (possibly) in the HoF and have somebody like Chris Pikula not get in makes me sick...
