Next time, make sure you announce the tournament far ahead on time! Everywhere!! Smile

That Prototype S thing seems to work really well... I still don't get it!

Care to share some thoughts on the list and it's important plays?

It's the second tournament in a row that Steve top 8's with the deck and now you (Chippo) seem to be doing very well with it too.

Prototype Portal looks so... useless! And Voltaic Key doesn't look so hot either (Staff of Domination seems superior).
The list looks totally shaky to me but results seem to indicate that I must be wrong.

Odd mutation, to start I want to say that I think I used the phrase the danger of cool things about 3 times per test session when testing with Steve the first versions of this deck. During all the time he worked on the deck (and respect is due) we looked at him as if he went completely bonkers on an idea. But to get to the meat of this post.

I used Steve list with his permission to come to mine and as you can see there are not many changes. Let me spell out the Prototype S principles.
The main idea is "Versatile" as Steve likes to say it. The main differences in cards are:
Quote
3 Voltaic Key
3 Sensei’s Divining Top
3 Prototype Portal
1 Staff of Domination
1 Time Vault

The idea with this package is that any threat you have you can play and everything can be imprinted. All cards have some interaction. Just to name a few:
Key untaps everything in the deck. Also this gives the oops I win to time vault. You have the famous untap the sensei when drawing a card and all this stuff.
The Prototype here you can imprint anything. Nothing better than drawing 1 card for 1 mana with a sensei imprinted. What do you think about a black lotus every turn or a sphere against combo. It is card disadvantage at first, I agree upon that but once the engine rolls you get this idea of inevitability which gives you a great late game.
The thing I noticed while playing the deck (and as you know I'm not a stax expert) is that there are so many outs in this thing that you need more than a tournament to see all the different situation in this thing to come up.

So what Steve did is it took the normal staff metalworker mud and added a form of versatility and an oops I win factor. For a certain time the vault was not in there but with 3 voltaic keys you want to have this.

Off-course with the added cards we also have some flaws. The main one everyone can guess and we haven't found a solution for this yet without adding a color.

Well that's it, I propose you drop by once and have a round of testing against either Steve or me Wink

But doesn't Triskelion take care of Mountain Goat?

In all seriousness, I've been playing a lot of MUD decks in the past years and the best solution to good old Null Rod I could find is just beat, beat and beat some more. You've still got your 5/3's, 4/4's and flying 5/5's. Of course this deck is more vulnerable to Null Rod than the more conservative lists but it's not always the end of the world when it resolves.

You gave us the same advice when discussing the testing sessions Wink
The other thing this deck has is the "Oops I win" factor. I had it on the tournament in Mol during the first game Steve opened against me with Shop, lotus, time vault, key and than the party is over.
This is something that happens and you can expect this from both a shopplayer as a tezz player but it is a way to fight null rod  Wink

The problem is that you need some solution for other matchups in the board that you don't always have place for extra beatings. We already solved this partially by adding beaters in the maindeck (originally Steve had 4 key and 4 top maindeck). But still I believe we need more beaters for the fishy matchups.

On the other hand I believe (and here comes Punki's theory from another thread) that you can have very bad mulligans with this deck and going any lower than 5 puts you almost out of the game by default. I went to 5 three times during last tournament and all of those games were borderline. I won all of them but ...

I guess that Mishra's Factory should be Mishra's Workshop in the first deck...
