Hi there,

I'm currently doing a bit of research for a Magic-related writing project and I am in need of a little help: I am hoping to track down what I think is a Duelist article from some time around 1995 or 1996 I would guess on famous people who were playing the game at the time. Unfortunately, when I was rooting around at home over Xmas, I discoverd my long-suffering parents had chucked my issues out - d'oh!

If I remember rightly the article mentioned several celebs from film and TV who played the game (at a time when I think Magic had made its biggest impression on the mainstream) - the only two I think I can remember though are George from Seinfeld (who now plays poker so could make sense) and Worf from Star Trek: The Next Generation.

Does anyone else remember this article? Or know what issue it was in, so I could track it down on ebay? Even better, do you have it yourself and could scan me the thing? Failing that, can you think of any celebs who play today (barring the poker converts)?

I would be really grateful for anyone's help on this!

Many thanks, Titus

EDIT: There's a slight chance the article could have been in a Scrye or Inquest, but I'm pretty sure it was the Duelist.

I remember this article, I think. Do you remember what was on the cover of this issue? I have a few very old inQuest magazines at my parents' house and it might be in the stack.

Hey Yare,

Thanks very much for the response! Hmm... so you think it might be an Inquest article? I was definitely leaning towards the Duelist as I remember mainly having those rather than Inquest...

Having had a quick look at ebay, I think it would have been in The Duelist somewhere between #7 and up to about #12 or #13. Looking at covers I strongly remember owning #8 which has a funky Heather Hudson cover, and I also really remember #11 which has a sweet Richard Kane Ferguson cover and came with a little Pillage print which I still have! Smile

Could well be in one of those two.

If you happen to be home any time soon and could have a poke round, I'd be really greatful - thanks!

Meanwhile if anyone else has those issues and wouldn't mind having a quick thumb through, that would be amazing.

Thanks! Titus

I have a pile of old Duelist mags still collecting dust at home (took it aways from my parent's home some time ago just to be on the safe side), all from the mid 90s. I'll look through them and see if I can find that article.

I scanned through several of the issues of The Duelist from around that time (#6-14) and was unable to find the article in question. Sorry.

Best of luck!

Well, I never purchased a Duelist magazine, so if I saw it in a magazine, it would have been InQuest. Sadly, I don't know that I'll be home any time soon in the coming months to investigate this further. I could also have just read it somewhere else and never saw it in a magazine.

@ZOmbie Shakespeare - thanks for helping out, really appreciate it. Kind of surprsied it didn't show up - but if Yare's right and it's in an old Inquest then I might have led everyone on a wild goose chase.. hmmm.

Cheers everyone!
