Since damage isn't going on the stack anymore, is there a window of opportunity for effects between first strike and regular combat damage?

Like, if you have a Boros Swiftblade equipped with Umezawa's Jitte - counters go on after first strike damage, but do I get the chance to use them before proper combat damage?

What does the "order of events" actually look like here; my understanding since M10 has been that the last point at which one can declare effects before damage is during 'declare blockers'.

Thanks.

You can do stuff between "First Strike combat damage" and regular combat damage.

So it's declare attackers, declare blockers, damage order, players receive again priority, first combat damage will be effective, priority again, second combat damage will be effective

If a creature in combat has first strike or double strike, there's actually two separate combat damage steps.  As with the declare attackers and declare blockers step, the first thing that happens in the combat damage step is game action that doesn't use the stack.  After this, both players will get priority.  So, during the first combat damage step, after damage is assigned and dealt, each player will get priority and do stuff before the second combat damage step occurs.

So...in the end, would Jitte get +4 counters since the equipped creature deals combat damage twice?
(first strike damage: +2, regular damage: +2 = +4 counters)

If the equipped creature deals combat damage twice, jitte triggers twice, so 4 counters, yes.

Ahhh, I should have intuited this, for some reason I didn't think/didn't remember that this applied to this particular step of the game.  Thanks
