Does he have to be in play for all 4 spells cast to flip him, or can I cast 3 spells then him as the 4th, or some other conjunction, i.e cast mox, cast eryao, cast 2 more mox for 4 spells total, or would eryao only count 2?  the 2 moxen after him etc.  Thank you!

It is the fourth spell of the turn.  So if you cast him as spell 2, then you need to cast 2 more to flip him.  if he is cast as spell 3, only 1 more spell.  if he is cast as spell 4 however, he can not be flipped till the next turn.

It doesn't work as the 4th spell since it is not in play yet, so it cannot "see" itself being cast. It cannot flip while it is still on the stack. When it does come into play, the 4th spell (itself) has already been cast.
