On June 6th Dave P. Baum put notice out for all North Ohioan gunslingers to come test their skills in a good ol’ fashion shootout. 24 Sharpshooters came in from miles around and after the dust settled only one was left standing. Unlike recent tourneys there was no splitting here. These warriors battled for pride, cash, women, and above all.... Glory.

After the first round began, peopled were getting merked left and right. Wading knee deep through muck and empty shell casings, only one would survive. The dark horse of the tournament, a Wizards deck piloted by none other than Vintage’s own Nat Moes would take the crown.

Big thanks goes out to all who attended the first Serious Open. The tourney was a blast and a big congratulation has to go out to Nat Moes. His MG-42 was on target all day as he tore his way up to number one.

Random facts

-Someone registered their Turbo Tezz list with 3 Mana Vaults and 2 Grim Monoliths.
-There was a total of 12 Dark Confidants in the top 8 and only 4 Gush
-There were a total of 23 Dark Confidants, 24 Gush, 4 Dark Rituals, 24 Lodestone Golems, and 13 Jace, the Mind Sculptors out of 24 deck lists
-The Dark Sith Lord himself, Stephen Q. Menedian showed up at had a copy of Understanding Gush with him. I flipped through it and have to say it is excellent. I' highly recommend picking a copy up.
-

The Serious meta-
2 Dredge
1 Turbo Tezz
2 Fish
1 Dark Depts
2 Oath of Druid w/Gush
5 Gush Control/Comb decks
4 Blue control decks with out Gush
1 TPS
6 Workshop’s

POP! is a store that is about all things pop culture. The venue is clean, organized and has some retro video game systems set up to play. The store has video games, books, comics, action figures, magic cards and tons of other stuff to read. I highly recommend coming to the next Serious Open. We're shooting for either late August or sometime in October. we'll keep the vintage community posted.

Thanks for the lists, this is a very interesting top 8.

Missing cards:
Juan - 1 SB card missing
Jason - 1 SB card missing
Nam - 1 MD card missing

Funny fact: The amount of apostrophes is very low in this top 8.
(I noticed because I have to change all ´ to ' because the morphling.de parser only accepts the '. I had very little work here compared to other lists.)

Awesome event, as always. Thanks to Matt for setting it up, Dave for hosting, Twaun for posting, and everyone that made it out. I had a blast and I can't wait for the next one!

Also my list (Nam Tran) is missing Tolarian Academy from the maindeck.

Spell Pierce was nice all day. It did it's job well in letting me drop Dark Confidant's turn two fairly easy(with a mox of course). There were multiple times which I would lead T1 Thoughtseize into T2 Dark Confidant with Spell Pierce back up. It was also a blast using Spell Peirce to hit Preordains and Preordain seems to be everywhere in blue decks right now.

The only thing I could see replacing Spell Peirce would be either Steel Sabotage or Spell Snare. The problem is, they all do radically different things. I think you'd have to really think about what the meta would be like in order to make the right call.
