Is there any archived video up yet from today's Vintage champs?  I want to watch it!
I guess I'd settle for a tournament report, but I'd rather have video.

Does anyone know where can we find an online coverage of the event?

Thanks!

The top 8 seems to be available here. I'm watching it there, anyway Smile

There was no real formal coverage by WotC (surprise surprise).

On Eternal Central we're doing coverage throughout the weekend via our pals on site shipping us updates:

Nice showing, Steve!  I see you played my buddy Josh Chappelle and his wizards deck.  I think thats one of the Black Gold crew out here in Denver; he plays most Thursdays.  He's had that funky wizard deck for quite some time, and it gives you a good example of the strange things people run in tournaments out here.

Why it is so funny that Mark Hornung's Dredge decklist is missing the 4 Bazaars? Very Happy

Anyway, the Top8 look kinda awesome, will there be lists from the prelims as well?

Congrats to Womba!

There was a lot of great competition at Gencon this year.  The list I ran, based on some innovations from Jesse Martin, was excellent.  It finished 9-0 in the prelims and 7-0 in the Swiss, before an ID into the finals. Paul defeated me in game three, hitting his one out to take the win.  It was great to play, and even better to see old friends and make new friends.

But I cannot speak of Gencon without mentioning theft. I had a bag of my Standard deck and binders stolen, losing about a thousand dollars. Many players lost once more. I was at a table where a player's legacy deck was stolen from in front of him. I heard that the police had estimated theft at over $8K before Saturday was over. I know many people who were victims of theft. And, sadly, this has cast a grim shadow on the weekend.

Therefore, I don't know if returning to Gencon next year makes sense. I love playing in the Eternal events there, and love the excellent competition. But the only reason I still have my Vintage deck is because I removed it from my backpack at the last minute Saturday morning. I almost had my Vintage deck stolen, and I will have second thoughts about risking my deck there again. Despite all of the awesome times otherwise, if I could somehow undo going, I would. And I assume this is true of the many other victims of theft over the event.

Atog, your post is very calm for someone the victim of a crime like that.  My condolences.

I'm surprised no one is marketing a gamer's vest type thing with zipper pockets to store decks and trade stock.  Something like this:
http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/mas-concealment-cargo-vest-black.aspx?a=674744&&kwtid=1136591&gclid=CNL7zaCuvqoCFSU0QgodCylN7g
Only designed to hold cards.  Perhaps small rigid pouches?

Mr. Shay sorry to hear about the loss, thankfully you still have your vintage deck.

Sorry about the missed triggers guys, first time I EVER missed them. I had a warning for doing my bridge trigger a different way which tilted me some against coss, also I was very jittery on the cameras for the first time, plus having only 4hrs of sleep because I was up until 4am because I top 8ed the block champs. I was so drained that I lost and it was 4am I almost didn't play vintage champs..def make sure you get sleep and food before one of these things, forgot about tourney playing 101. Report should be up this week sometime. It was def amazing to see the blue bell community represented in this top 8!! Grats to the amazing top 8 and everyone else who played, it was a roller coaster ride..

I heard that the police had estimated theft at over $8K before Saturday was over.

This is actually a typo.  It was $80k, not $8k.  I shit you not.  Scary stuff.

I believe it.  Theft at big card events is seriously out of control.

Gencon had no security in the TCG Hall whatsoever.  They had volunteers at the doors checking badges, but that was it.  There was rampant theft, and Gencon did absolutely nothing about it.  This is very frustrating and I really don't know if I want to go back and risk it next year.

People need to limit what they carry around with them at any given time. I know it's easy to get distracted especially when one is playing in an event. Keep the bag looped around your leg and under your seat. it's served me well over the years. Be vigilant with your stuff and shit like this will not happen. Perhaps after such a terrible year Gencon will take some action. Personally this is why I go to events will Bill Copes he's a good friend and a ninja delta squad all in one.

Yeah, it was said on Salvation that one guy lost a ~20k deck.  That is pretty sickening.

Right, but people were getting decks stolen off the table while they were playing.  I mean, there's only so much you can do, you know?

Sorry to hear about the thefts guys that is awful, a special place in hell for those people. Looks like a great tourney otherwise. I hope those trash are brought to justice!

Any security cameras at the venue?  If you're not sure, its probably worth making some phonecalls.  Grats on your run this weekend.

cheers,
