At the beginning of your upkeep you lose one life.
pay 2 life: tap target artifact.
Artifacts do not untap during players untap steps.

I wanted to make something that could stop both tinker Bot and Time Vault/Key.  Mind you tezzeret still gets around this, but makes it a lot harder to win with his ultimate (if this is their only out).
But to make it fair I added the 1 life a turn cost.

It would be printable as I don't see it behind overpowered, but it's completely out of flavor.

Blue doesn't lose life every turn, paying 2 life is also more red or black. Artifacts rarely work without tapping, this would be better as an enchantment.

Also, your card is basically the same thing as Kill Switch, just a little less sucky and out of flavor.


I'd go for a flood type effect.

UU: Tap target artifact, it doesn't untap during it's controller's next untap step, put a rust counter on it. Whenever an artifact has 3 rusts counters on it, sacrifice it.


Would also work without the Rust thing, but it might be a little too bad the other way.

if i understand the card text correctly this would singlehandedly destroy the workshop archetype.

tangle wire = deathtrap
slash panther = really really bad lightning bolt
lodestone = overcosted sphere + bad lightning bolt
moxen = bad lotus petals
sol ring / mana crypt = bad mana vault

with an upkeep of 1 life you should easily be able to sustain it for 5-10 turns with more or less zero felt upkeep.

why does every card have to be blue? couldn't it just be a brown artifact (like they all used to be)?
and the proposed oxidation card screams red. what color is rust (or iron oxide)?

I did make it blue just cuz I love blue, and at first I was gonna actually make it

2(phyrexia blue mana)
then an activation of
UU (2 blue phyrexia mana) to tap an artifact. 

But, if I made it this way, then it could be played in the MUD mirror, then MUD vs MUD would simply boil down to "who gets the magnet first", which I didn't want.

I would like the card to stay colored so that it isn't used in MUD.  Blue is the most common color played besides artifacts, and it does fit into the flavor of Cards like Back to Basics (non untap), Flood (tapping down things), and there are lots of blue cards with upkeep costs. Also, red has plenty to deal with artifacts already, blue has Energy Flux, Hurk's, and Sabotage, not enuff IMO  Changing it into an enchantment instead of an artifact, I could totally understand.  so new version:

Would this version be more realistic?  tapping down artifacts permanently for U and 2 life, or 4 life if needed, seems good.  remember this isn't just to hate out MUD, it also helps in the blue matchup, tapping down moxen, crypt, vault, etc.  As well as making the key/vault combo not work, as well as being able to stop Blightsteel for UU or 2-4 life.  Also at 2U, casting it against MUD can be rather hard thru spheres and whatnot dropped before it could be.

To go all out with that phyrexian mana flavor, you could even drop the cost to 1U and make the cumulative upkeep Phyrexian mana. More expensive for life, but you can avoid some of the damage.

For me, cumulative upkeep 1 life is still too cheap. If you sneak this in early turns against shop, you can leave it 5 turns for 10 life, which is more than enough for a player to stabilize. Even in late game, you can stall the whole board for 4 turns with little problem.

I have a feeling it would make the Vault deck even stronger against Shops, which is probably not what you were going for.

I prefer a green version, with the name "Oxidation" and the following:

 {2} {pG}
Enchantment
At the beginning of each upkeep, pay {pG] {pG} or sacrifice Oxidation.

If an artifact would untap, instead that artifact does not untap.

This is TOO playable, TOO easily kept on the board, and TOO underversatile.  The card should be:

Corrosive Membrane

(All phyrexian mana for all costs)

UGRWB
Enchantment

G1: artifacts don't untap during the next untap phase
U1: return target artifact to it's owners hand
W1: tap target artifact
R1: Put a rust counter on target tapped artifact.  Artifacts with 2 or more rust counters are destroyed
B1: Sacrifice an artifact, draw a card.

That is kind of a very cool card actually. Junk rare for sure, but it's cute and printable.

Other than than, Oxydation was really nice too, it doesn't totally adress the Colossus issue, but close enough. At 4 life per turn to keep for non green decks, it's also a pain and hard to abuse in big blue.
