Hi all!

Every week, I'm going to start a 8-player single elimination bracket.  Rules are very similar to the TMD online invitational:
1. Games are played publicly on Cockatrice
2. Players have at most a week to complete each match.
3a. Lists are PMed to a party not in the tourney by at most two days after registration closes.
3b. Lists will be posted after all round 1 matches are complete.
4. Prize is the opportunity to play a featured match against a well-recognized member of the Vintage community.  (Volunteers?)
5. Drops after the bracket is drawn are final.  Nobody can fill that slot.
6. Brackets will be fully randomized.  There will be no preference or "seeds" of any kind.

Registration will be closed once we have 8 people or about a week passes and I remember to draw up a bracket.

Players signed up as of last update:
1. AmbivalentDuck
2. Grand Inquisitor
3. The Wolf
4. Zieby
5. Commandant
6. Ruboonia
7. evouga
8. td

First matches must be complete by Jan 16th: one week from the close of signup.  If all matches complete before then, the next set will be due within a week, and so on.

would like to join, I am from Europe so It could be difficult to schedule the games.
But when arranged it should be no problem.

Unfortunately, no.  You'd be number nine.  I need to toss up a sign-up page for next week, though.  I'll put you second on that list if that's okay?

Also, would you be willing to be this week's prize match?

Pairings are up:
Me vs Evouga
Commandant vs Grand Inquisitor
The Wolf vs Zieby
Ruboonia vs TD

Best of luck to all!  We have a week to get our match slips turned.

Also, I'm thinking of waiving the "decklists emailed to someone" requirement since it doesn't seem to have been a major factor in the past.  Thoughts?

Thank you!

Speaking in wild generalities, the problem with playing Magic online is that you're seldom playing against a solid opponent.  Maybe it's a personal quirk of mine, but I'm happy to play Magic in order to have an opportunity to play against a solid opponent and thereby have an opportunity to improve my ability to play Magic.

What was the purpose of doing this in the past? To make sure nobody switches up their decks between the two rounds?

I think we can all make a gentleman's agreement to abstain from such shenanigans. And if someone were to cheat for some reason, his first round opponent could easily call him out.

Yup.  And to prevent people from holding off their match to see what else is being played.

Seems unnecessary.

Played my first round match against Evouga, going 2-0.  He was on mono-red control/hate with Magus of the Moon, Rods, and other strong goodies...and I lucked out and chose his nightmare matchup: Goblins

List:
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Black Lotus

3 Mountain
4 Badlands
2 Scalding Tarn
4 Bloodstained Mire
1 Swamp
2 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine

4 Earwig Squad
4 Goblin Lackey
4 Goblin Matron
2 Wort, Boggart Auntie
1 Vexing Shusher
1 Gempalm Incinerator
1 Goblin Welder
1 Goblin Tinkerer
1 Stingscourger
1 Mogg War Marshal
1 Goblin Piledriver

4 Surgical Extraction
4 Lightning Bolt
2 Blood Moon
1 Tormod's Crypt

1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Consultation

SB: 2 Pyroblast
SB: 4 Mental Misstep
SB: 1 Planar Void
SB: 1 Nihil Spellbomb
SB: 1 Wasteland
SB: 1 Tormod's Crypt
SB: 2 Pyrokinesis
SB: 3 Pulverize

Game 1, I get an earlier Tinkerer which eats his Chalice @0.  I proceed to drop Earwig Squad and beat for lethal.  Game 2, I start on Badlands and no other mana, but have Vamp and Pyrokinesis in hand.  I know he has no fast wins and I have Pyro to stall beats, so I keep it.  I tutor for Sol Ring and draw a bunch of Matrons.  CA piles up and I eventually draw land.  He's had an active Grim Lavamancer, but it's pretty incidental since he has to unprofitably throw away utility cards to keep activating it.

TL;DR: Duck got lucky as shit and blew out a hate deck that didn't have the right hate for him.

2-0 for Zieby
First game due to a first turn tinker and the second game I had a first turn Fastbond with double Gush that gave me to much CA.

We're over the time limit, but it's half the matches.  Precedent is to hand out losses.  That said, TD and Ruboonia are scheduled to play and giving them both a loss seems silly.

Commandant and GI, can y'all agree on a time to play by the end of the day so I don't have to hand out a loss? Thanks!

Yeah, lists have to go up before the second round starts.  Otherwise, there's too large an advantage from watching each other's games.
