Congratulations to Kevin Poenisch on making top 8. Every time we've played, you've been a real stand-up guy.

No European has won before, but Hiromichi Itou took the painting to Japan a few years ago.

Stoked to see Bob/Jace control back on top of Dredge. Go Team! Did anyone record it?

In case anyone.missed it, Pastimes expanded the prize support for Vintage Champs down to Top 32.
Go get your packs in case you had not heard.

Remember when people wanted Gush to be restricted because it was so dominant?
lol
I'm trying to avoid making this sound like a complete arm chair whine. Congratulations to all who won but is this what everyone was expecting from Worlds? I was hoping the metagame would be broken open by something relatively new, not the same decks we've been seeing all summer. I wish I could remember the post I saw before Worlds last year basically saying that Mishra's Workshop is dead. How things have changed. I'm tired of seeing all these Legacy ports. U/Tarmogoyf/x? Slow Dredge? Where's the kaboom!?! This is the games most powerful format?

I wouldn't consider it any kind of whine, and as someone who couldn't make it to GenCon for the first time in years (although I have yet to play in Worlds), I understand and share your sentiments. For the first time I watched the tournament unfolding from afar, wondering who would do well, cheering for friends, and refreshing for some kind of update. I was hoping to see or hear about something really interesting that made me think "whoa, I can't believe he played THAT! or man, I've wanted to play that card for a long time and he/she figured out how to use it."
There was none of that (at least from the forum, or WotC's site) but perhaps someone can share some noteworthy interactions or generally interesting Vintage stuff. Congrats to those who did well, and especially those representing the NE. I'm glad that shops didn't win because I never want them to; however, I would have still preferred to see Mr. Forino take it down and live with the shops victory. It seems all the interesting innovations were done in earlier parts of this year.

I thought there would be at least one Griselbrand deck in T8 with how much hype he has been getting.

Blaine's list had some innovative stuff in his list as far as MUD goes. I have only seen him play 4 x buried ruin, 2 x ratchet, and 3 x trike main. Seriously . . . buried ruin!?

Worlds always ends up being it's own metagame; I'm not sure why peole care so much about the lack of innovation. FWIW I think B.C.s list has some interesting card choices.

Agreed, and for clarity's sake, that's not Espresso Stax. Trikes, Buried Ruins, Revokers main, etc., means that it isn't. It's an interesting take, certainly.

I don't care that much about any lack of innovation. I'm just saying that I was hoping to see something really cool.

Well first, congratulations and a half, BC! Very nice showing. Shame you had to go out to a topdecked Time Vault but, well, oh well. And, ah, care to explain yourself? 4 Buried Ruins, 3 Triskelion, and no Sphere or Thorn maindeck? Bold choices. Would love to hear your thinking behind the deck -- and read a primer, if you've got time. Thanks!

It should be up by tomorrow at the latest.

I scrubbed pretty hard, but I had a blast. I want to give a lot of credit to Pastimes for really stepping up, addressing people's concerns, and running a great event.

They really did step up security for Vintage Champs. They had people everywhere, and they were watching for everything from food and drinks to people that were lingering, to people without wristbands. I've never been so happy to be so inconvenienced in my life. My sincere thanks to Pastimes, they did an excellent job with this!

I had a great experience as a first timer, and I plan on attending again next year. It was really great meeting some of you forum-dwellers face to face. The vintage community may be small, but more than makes up for that in character. As a community, you are all more welcoming than I ever expected, and I would like to thank you for that. Also, props to Pastimes for running a great event and for making sure that our play area was secure. Once again, it was great meeting some of you and I look forward to next year's tournament!
