For those of you who don't know, "Momir Vig Basic" is an online only format where each player has a deck of 60 basic lands, starts with 24 life, and to cast a creature, you tap your mana, discard a card, and you get a creature at random of that converted manacost from MTG's Gatherer (ie, all of Magic).  It's bases on the online Momir Vig Vanguard ability and some people have posted Momir Basic Vids on the internets.

I built a "Momir Vig Basic" stack for actual play.

I went through every box of cards I had that was full of junk, and grabbed one copy of each creature I could find, then went through my binders and took out each crap rare the I can't move anyway and now have a box (18" - two rows) of sorted by casting cost creatures.
We put a pile of 1 drops, a pile of 2 drops, etc in the middle of the battlefield (Up to 9 drops at the moment) and we play Momir Vig Basic.

When we tap say, 4 lands for mana, and discard card (land), we grab a 4 drop from the middle of our 4 drop stack. or one near the top. or near the bottom and toss it into play.  This gives us the random factor.  Rinse, repeat, customize!
Also, any number of people can play duels at once.

Nice, eh?  it put about 3000 cards that were doing nothing, into use! Smile
<=- genius!

I know it might be against the spirit of Momir Vig Basic, but it could also be potentially cool to add some artifacts, planeswalkers, even sorceries.  As your stack evolves, this could be a direction to take it.

I supposed it wouldn't be hard to talk myself into putting say, Meekstone into the 1 drop pile, Control Magic into the 4 drop pile, and of course, Alladin's Ring into the 8 drop pile, but...

Actually, my 8+ drops are pretty low compared to the other piles. Maybe I will spice up the 8+ piles with the Blasphemous Acts, Scatterstorm (the big spell that randomizes permanents in play), and so forth.  Brilliant!

At the moment, the only rule I had changed was to let Sunburst work, and other cards that cared about what kind of mana was used to play it (Plaxmanta being one, Azorius Herald being another).

Someone on ggslive was just showing theirs off at gp atlanta. his seemed to be a lot smaller. It looked like it fit in a 1000 count box with sleeves.

Do you also play that they count as tokens?

My Momir Vig stack will likely shrink to 100-200 each for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 drops, and keep all the 6-10+ cards I can get.

We play that you put a token creature into play, but I also took BC's suggestion and threw in some random fun stuff (Spirit Away, Blasphemous Act, Pestilence, etc)
