RUG Delver innovator (and Vintage Prelim Winner) Mike Solymossy's GenCon 2012 tournament report is now up on Eternal Central here:
http://www.eternal-central.com/?p=2978

Please share your comments, thoughts, and criticisms below. Soly currently does not have posting privileges here on TMD so I will help facilitate the cheers and jeers for our beloved. Wink

So is Soly mad at Lightning Bolt or was that the gesture he made whenever he cast Bolt?

I met Soly at GenCon, and he was a blast to hang out with. Great tournament report, it sucks that he narrowly missed out on top 8.

I put my Wastelands and Force of Wills in a pitcher and tried to pour them in a cup...... I really didn't see any type of liquidity.

Clearly we need to restrict Lodestone Golem, as he's oppressing the field.

I would imagine both, but assume it is geared towards the latter.

He's calmed down a bit the last couple of years that I have known him.

Sounds like a stroke of bad luck in the report.  I wanted to see this deck top 8.

This part:

"I am beating him down, but stupidly let a Vampiric Tutor resolve. He resolves the most skill intensive enchantment in the game, and I lose to Griselbrand."

Stuff like this annoys me. He apparently makes a mistake and loses because of it, but somehow still manages to imply his opponent lacks skill and got lucky.

You should play against him online.

Also has anyone else (excluding Grudge Match 5) tested this deck outside of the bread basket meta? I've spent quite a bit of time testing a few versions of RUG and really was not impressed.

The picture of Soly is from John Beste or Danny Friedman (who are both friends with Soly), one of whom smashed Soly in the Vintage for FTV tournament on Saturday or Sunday with Oath, and got Soly to take a picture with the cards. I put in in the report, it was in jest, and if you can't handle some good natured ribbing like Soly and the posse can, you're all taking yourself way too seriously.

I would've bet MONEY Soly would've posted a report about the Vintage for Vaults event we played in Saturday, but since he didn't I will, because it was bad beats.

Game 1 I'm forced to mull to 4, my keep is land land force gush.

Soly is on the play

He leads with Mox emerald, Black Lotus, and Tolarian Academy, followed by.... CONSECRATED SPHINX.

I attempt to Force

he forces back!

I do not win this game.

Afterwards Soly, Dan, Joe Brown, and I went a met a couple of the other players at a local bar for some food.

I will say, if you haven't met Soly, don't jump to conclusions. He may have a ridiculous tilt-o-meter when he loses sometimes, and might seem pretty rough on forums, but he was one of the most fun people I met at Gencon, and I had a ton of fun playing against him, and just hanging out. Can't always judge a book by it's cover!
