I've been asked to make this announcement for Pastimes, and have obliged, so here we go:

What:

Pastimes 20th Anniversary 20 Proxy Vintage Tournament
$20, 20 proxy, non-sanctioned Vintage event.
Prizes will be based off attendance.

When:

11/4/12
11:00 a.m. registration, 12:00 p.m. start

Where:

8502 Golf Road
Niles, Illinois

More info:

Format Description: Constructed decks must contain a minimum of sixty cards. If a player wishes to use a sideboard, it must contain exactly fifteen cards.

With the exception of basic land cards, a player's combined deck and sideboard may not contain more than four of any individual card, counted by its english card title equivalent. All cards named Plains, Island, Swamp, Mountain, and Forest are basic.

The Vintage format allows the use of all cards in the magic cardpool, barring those found in the Unglued/Unhinged sets, and those found on the banned and restricted list.

Structure: Swiss

Structure Description: The principle of a Swiss tournament is that each player will be pitted against another player who has done as well (or as poorly) as him or herself.

Each round, players who win receive 3 points, those who draw receive one point and losers receive no points. Win, lose, or draw, all players proceed to the next round. In subsequent rounds, players face opponents with the same (or almost the same) score. No player is paired up against the same opponent twice however.

In some events, after Swiss rounds there will be a cut to a single-elimination playoff between the top players.

Prizes: Prizes based on attendance.

I hope you guys make it out!

Prizes will be based off attendance.
For turnouts of 500 persons or less, prize support will be exclusively packs of M13!

I haven't been to a Pastimes tournament in ages.  I think it's time to remedy that.

That's pretty bad.  This illustrates that reputation does matter.  Pastimes is notorious for poor prize support, and has been for years.  Apparently people are no longer interested.

I don't think it's their reputation.  The last four Vintage events in Wisconsin and Illinois have gotten 7 people, 4 people, 6 people, and 3 people.  I think Vintage in the upper Midwest is done.

That makes it a sad day. I remember when the Midwest was a power house for vintage.
