Prospero said in another thread that you need to take the steps to see the future you want to see.  We at Team Serious agree and would like to start a Midwest Vintage Series in 2013.  Initially, we want to cater to the WI, IL, IN, OH, MI and western PA region.  We want these tournaments to be as accessible as possible so we need to know some things from you:

1) What major city are you closest to?

2) How far are you willing to travel for $800 in prizes for $30 entry?

3) What kind of prize support would you pay $30 entry for?

4) What things are important to you in a venue?

5) How many proxies do you need to play?

If you don't feel comfortable sharing your thoughts publicly, we've provided a 6-question survey that you can complete at your convenience.  http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/VVGVTTD

The idea is to include as many players as possible by making these as financially and geographically accessible as possible.  Realistically, these tournaments would probably start after Gencon but if we get enough information and support, we may be able to get these off the ground sooner.  I'd really like to see posts from lurkers who never had a reason to speak up before.  Please, voice your opinion.  We actively want to involve you.  The more information you give us, the more we can cater to you.  Let's rebuild interest in Midwestern Vintage!

1) Western PA (Pittsburgh)

2) Almost any eternal-relevant prize support would be acceptable. That is, I don't like to go to a tournament to try to win a box of the most recent set. That said, I just like playing Magic (Vintage, specifically), so the support doesn't even matter that much to me.

3) Nearby access to drink/food; clean restroom; nice shop owner.

4) 0. I don't want this thread to turn into a discussion over the merits of proxies, so I'm saying 0. To tie back into question 3, I like stores that have relevant cards in stock (though this is not 'absolutely important' and I'm not talking about power/semi-power like Shops, Bazaars, etc.).

Thanks for asking.

1. WI
2.  Personally, I'm more drawn to a ballin' community and good times over prize support. But if I had to convince someone to come with... Idk, a shitty mox would probably be sufficient leverage for me to got a car pool going.
3. Being able to get back in time and get to sleep so im not wiped for work on Monday, Saturday events are obviously preferred. If its super far away, a near by safe place to spend the night. Emphasis on safe.
4. Typically 0-2, for me. I'm powered, but don't own stuff like imp seal.  About once a year I'll play dredge, needing 4 proxies. So to keep my options totally open, 4 would by my official answer. Personally, I wouldn't be deterred at 0 though.

1. Ohio

2.  I mean i regularly travel 2 hours for cash, but I also like prizes for top 4 or potentially further down, if that is possible with a mox and then lesser cards for 2-4  I would be in.

3. Having plenty of space, i like to cube and play legacy on side tables between rounds, or if I Ornithopter the tournament.  I also like venues to have a reasonable collection to buy random cards but that isn't absolutely essential. It is nice when there are some sort of snacks too, but that isn't essential.

4.  I have a pretty extensive legacy collection, and not much in the way of power, that being said, if fewer proxies would bring more people, I could make 4-5 work.  I won't be playing some of the crazy stuff I have played lately (2 card monte needs 13-15 proxies), but I don't mind the constraints of fewer proxies.

1.) Illinois, and Chicago is the closest city to me but I am located closer to O'Hare airport.

2.) I don't need prize support and would prefer if I didn't need to pay $20-$30 to play.

3.) Close to some sort of food/restaurant(s). Other than that I'm pretty simple.

4.) I'm not a fan of proxies but 10 to 15 seems to be the norm.

We are pretty much the only store that has been holding successful Vintage events over the last 10 years!  We have tons of space and plenty of food in the area.  We also have a vast collection of Vintage, Legacy, Modern, EDH, and Type II cards that you can choose from with your store credit.  We run our Vintage events on the 3rd Sunday of every month and charge 25.00 entry with 10 proxies.  We have tried many different types of entries and pay outs, but this is the one that works the best.  We can pay out to top 8 with really amazing payouts!!
If you have any questions contact us at sales@xtremegamesonline.com

Thank You,

1. WI (Madison)
2. Cool Stuff. Doesn't have to be power, just interesting cards (Pimp, Foreign Language staples, etc).
3. Clean bathroom. Places to eat that are close. Reasonable inventory and prices of cards.
4. 2 or 4, depending on the deck.

1. - Ohio (Cleveland)

2. - Prize support throughout the top 8 or top 4

3. - Clean venure, ample room to move around and play, and a good location

4. - I'd prefer a move toward zero, but I'd be happy with a max of 10.

5. - Pre tourney tailgating. We do it for football, why not Vintage?

1) Which state do you live in and what major city are you in closest proximity to?

2) What kind of prize support would draw you to a tournament two hours away?

3) What things are absolutely important to you in a venue?

4) How many proxies would you need to play what you want?  We don't want to pick any fights.  We just want to see how low we can set the limit and still attract as many players as possible.

1) Michigan - Ann Arbor  (Easier to access then metro Detroit, more people friendly, better eats near by)

2) A 1st 2ed 3rd + most underpowered.  Willing to pay $40  There is a lot of good players in the midwest. I hate going to an event with a good turnout and have very little chance of getting the one and only good prize.

3) Food you can walk to, cheap drinks close by.

4) I think 15 is standard then everyone can play workshops or bazzars. Plus if LoA gets un restricted some day.   All of that +1 dollar per proxy stuff is petty. Just do 15 and leave it at that. Do a price for most under powered deck.

1. Illinois. I live in the North side of Chicago.

2. Positive or neutral expected value with entry fees and travel accounted for.

3. See 2.

4. Zero. I have the financial resources to buy cardboard on a whim. That said, I won't play in any environment where I think my competition is limited by cardboard availability. 10 proxy would be the absolute minimum. I'll play about as many proxies as I'm allowed even if I don't need them. I don't shuffle anything over $10 without a good reason, double-sleeved or not..

Guys, thanks for the great feedback.  I'm glad you guys are using the surveys.  We've gotten more feedback from the surveys than all our other forms of data collection combined.

1. Madison, WI

2. Depends...probably an hour or two.

3. Depends on the players, right? A play set of undergrounds or a mox would be nice. Though, I would really just prefer something like $20 entry.

4. Space, clean tables, vintage players

5. Ideally zero proxies. Maybe we'll see a resurgence of aggro decks? Smile

1. Twin Cities, MN

2. Would be willing to drive 2-4 hours

3. Vintage Staples, not necessarily power, but mana drains, Library, Beta Demonic Tutors, Foils, etc. would be awesome.

4. Clean bathroom, places to eat nearby, heat (it is the midwest), available supplies for sale i.e. cards, sleeves, etc.

5. I personally would not need any proxies.

1) Detroit

2) 3 hours or so

3) Just cool cards, foil, foreign, vintage staples

4) The most important thing to me in a venue is security.  If I am bringing a deck worth 12k, I want to feel safe in the area.

5) I dont need proxies.

1) Chicago

2) 1.5 hours at most

3) Anything proportional to number of players.  Would rather pay less for lower prizes

4) AC in summer, heating in winter!

5) 10 or so
